1 Prince of Peace is a Hub of spiritual transformation using God s Word, Sacrament, and Prayer, Equipping us to build networks of vibrant Christian communities, Extending to our homes, to our neighbors, and beyond, making disciples of Jesus. Vol. 18 No. 36 September 5, Prince of Peace Preschool Kicks Off New Year This Week The beginning of the school year is always an exciting time! We ask you to rejoice and celebrate with us for the blessings that God bestows upon our school. We are equipped, empowered, and excited by our mission to ~ share the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed with young children and their families through excellence in education. As educators, we are always reviewing our curriculum and our indoor and outdoor learning environments for children. We know that young children need lots of outdoor learning time, where they can run, climb, investigate and use their imaginations to help understand the world around them. This summer, with the help of our school and church families and a very generous grant from the Circuit 9 Mission Endowment Fund, we were able to enhance our Front Playground with a dry creek bed and a bridge. This was Phase I of three phases to create a more natural playscape addition to our Front Playground. Also, we were blessed with the gift of one of our own Prince of Peace alumni, who chose our school's outdoor areas of learning for his Eagle Scout Project. Our benches were painted, old bushes were removed and new plants were added to the window wells, all of our playgrounds were power washed, the sidewalks and walls were cleaned, the trees were given new mulch and our center courtyard was cleaned out and mulched. I cannot wait to watch the children enjoy these new areas and see the imaginative ways in which they will use our four different playgrounds and the center courtyard this year. We thank God, who walks with us on this mission to serve the children and families in our community, for all of the children and the families he has sent to us so far this year. Please keep our staff and these children and their families in your prayers throughout this School Year. God's Blessings and Peace to you, Cindy Deatherage, Principal Inside: Adult Education Classes... page 3 Family Ministry Announcements... page 4 Women s Ministry... pages 6 & 7

She has been involved with Lutheran outreach to Muslims since Her greatest joy is to equip congregations and individuals to share the Gospel with their Muslim friends and neighbors, and to fulfill Christ s great commission to make disciples of all nations. Yvette has served on a variety of local and district boards and committees, and received the Southeastern District s Servant of Christ award in The banquet will feature Fouad Masri, founder of Crescent Project ( as the keynote speaker. Author and lecturer Fouad Masri was born and raised in the war zone of Beirut, Lebanon. As a third generation pastor, he has a passion for sharing the love of Christ with Muslims and has spent most of his life doing just that. After coming to the United States to attend seminary, Fouad realized the urgency for teaching American Christians to reach out to the growing population of internationals, particularly Muslims. In 1993, he founded Crescent Project to nurture transformational relationships between Christians and Muslims and overcome misconceptions about Islam and Christianity. Fouad Masri has trained more than 18,000 Christians to sensitively and purposefully share their faith with Muslims through both the Bridges One-Day and Sahara Challenge training programs. He has served as a guest instructor at several universities and Christian ministries and has been featured in several media publications, including Christianity Today, Newsweek, Mission Network News, and on CBN, TBN, the Janet Parshall Show, and Prime Time America. He is the producer and teacher in the DVD study, Bridges: Christians Connecting with Muslims. In Bridges, he presents the urgent need for understanding Islam and Muslims. 7 PoP Communicator Page 7 of 12 September 5, 2015 Tuesday, September 22, 7pm at the Harris Home Wednesday, September 23, noon at Milano s Restaurant Faith Shapers is an opportunity for women to explore literary selections that will grow and shape your faith through reading and discussion in community. As we begin our 10th year, 96 women have participated in at least one Faith Shapers gathering. We have collectively read eight books of the Bible, 58 books by 45 different authors, and 23 short selections from Devotional Classics. For your convenience there are two meeting times for each reading selection. We encourage participation by women of all ages and stages in their faith life and invite you to bring a friend or neighbor. You may choose to read one or all of the books, and are welcome to join the lively discussion and fellowship whether or not you read the selection. The books may be purchased in the church office. (See the designated bookshelf with envelopes for payment). Our first selection for this year is a Devotional Classic by Catherine of Siena, Overflowing with Love. Catherine was a mystic whose central message is the great love that God has for us all. Servant of Christ Recipients from last weekend: Congratulations to (L to R) Dave & Carolyn Thomas, Hoppy & Chris Hohenstein, and Bill & Eileen Douglas! The October selection is Abba s Child by Brennan Manning. Many Christians don t think they can express real feelings around others or to God. Manning encourages us to let go of the stressful, unreal imposter lifestyle and freely accept your identity as a child of God. Agnes Harris and Jennifer Gross ; faithshapers@poplc.org

Your individual story makes up the greater story the story of God s redeeming his people for himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to him. A native of Thailand who called himself Yo worshipped with us a couple years ago and was met by Care Ministers. He came back several times. I and others gave him encouragement and assisted him in preparing to find a job. After a while he had to return to Thailand. Just recently he sent an message. He wrote, I am writing you to let you know that your prayer for me is not in vain. God has mercy on my life that he has given me an opportunity to serve him here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. My position is Country Discipleship Coordinator for e3 Partners Thailand focuses on evangelism and church planting, and Compass31 project which focuses on prevention Human trafficking through education. A client was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I told her I would pray for her during her battle and for her strength. Handed out 200 ESL flyers in three days of prayer walking. Shared with a mother and her son that I had prayed for Garett, her son, who had gone missing at the beach that afternoon. We were at Virginia Beach near a lifeguard stand and she was in tears that he was in the water but couldn't find him. He floated down the beach with the waves. Prayed prayers of thanksgiving that they found him and he was safe. You can share your stories by writing them in the Friendship Folder at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the or by sending an to tiffany.sears@poplc.org.
