1 Prince of Peace is a Hub of spiritual transformation using God s Word, Sacrament, and Prayer, Equipping us to build networks of vibrant Christian communities, Extending to our homes, to our neighbors, and beyond, making disciples of Jesus. Vol. 19 No. 13 March 26, The Prince of Peace C O M M U N I C A T O R Why I Fold My Hands When I Pray My left hand represents my life. It is all that I am and all that I do. It depicts my limited strengths and my vast weaknesses. My left hand portrays my foolishness and lack of insight, and represents my worldly blindness and shallow wisdom. My right hand represents God s love. It is perfect and pure. God s love is fulfilling in all that it does, and its foundation is eternal and constant. His gracious love provides a limitless supply of strength and is an endless reserve of heart-felt wisdom that knows and understands my worldly self. As I fold my fingers together, I curl my helplessness into His immeasurable power and love. God allows my life and His love to unite, and I experience His true strength and wisdom. By folding my hands together, God allows me to nestle my human needs in His holy loving spirit. His love joins my life, I yield to His will, and I surrender to the Lord. With my hands together and my fingers interlocked, I see that my thumbs form the shape of a cross. The cross represents the greatest gift ever given to anyone, Christ s death for my sins against God. As I look beyond my thumbs, I see the area between my hands. I see this space as the vast emptiness between my life and the eternal heavenly Father. It also represents the empty tomb in which Christ was buried, and from which He was resurrected. Fortunately, and through the Grace of God, Jesus Christ filled the emptiness between the Father and me by living the life that I cannot live. God and His love, for all humanity, is glorified by what Christ did for us all. Without the empty tomb, Christ s life and death would be meaningless. His resurrection fulfills God s promise of eternal life. When I see my folded hands, I know that Christ joined my humanity with God s never-ending love. In humble reverence, I close my eyes and bow my head before the eternal Lord God. The Holy Spirit pleads my deepest needs, and God allows me to talk with Him in prayer. by: David Hill, March 30, 1995 HOLY WEEK Services March 24 Maundy Thursday 7:30pm March 25 Good Friday 7:30pm March 26 Easter Vigil 5:30pm March 27 Easter Worship 6:30am Sunrise Service at the Springfield Country Club 7:30am, 9am and 11am Worship 8-11am Easter Breakfast

We also enjoyed Pastor Tim's Irish jokes. But the highlight of the lunch was the musical entertainment. Darla Yaun on the marimba accompanied by Candie Jefferson on the piano played a melange of popular, religious and Irish music. We thank the hosts, the pastor and the talented musicians for a memorable afternoon. Marlis McKay MarlisHH@verizon.net NEW Virtual Spiritual Disciplines Group Maybe you long for a more intimate prayer life or deeper insight from God's Word but just don't know how to get there. Maybe you want to learn about new spiritual disciplines like Visio Divina, unplugging or attentiveness. In Spiritual Disciplines Handbook: Practices That Change Us, Adele Calhoun gives us directions for our continuing journey toward intimacy with Christ. While the word discipline may make us want to run and hide, this book shows how desires and discipline work together to lead us to the transformation we're longing for the transformation only Christ can bring. For many women, there is a desire to go deeper in the disciplines but meeting during the week is impossible. An online women s group is forming to learn and discuss Calhoun s book and to encourage and spur each other on in the disciplines. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact DCE Stacey Crosson. In addition to meeting online, we will also arrange to meet quarterly in person as well. stacey.crosson@poplc.org

9 PoP Communicator Page 9 of 12 March 26, 2016 Why are there Envelopes Hanging in the Narthex? On July 18, twenty Prince of Peace teenagers and four adult leaders will leave for New Orleans to attend the LCMS National Youth Gathering. The National Youth Gathering brings together over 25,000 high school students and their leaders from around the world. The Gathering is five days of worship, recreation, workshops, concerts, Bible studies and service projects all designed to allow us to focus on our faith in Jesus and our relationships with our Christian brothers and sisters. We would like to ask for your support as we prepare for this amazing opportunity. Please keep all of the students and leaders in your prayers and prayerfully consider financially supporting our trip with a donation. In the Narthex you will see 200 numbered envelopes on the wall. The numbers on the envelopes represent the dollar amount of a donation that will be used to offset the cost of the trip for all participants from Prince of Peace. Pick any of the available numbers, enclose your payment and place it in the offering plate or drop it off in the church office. We are very excited about this awesome opportunity to grow in our faith and really appreciate your prayers and support! YOUTH AND PARENTS: SAVE THE DATE! Above: PoP youth serve at the Lenten Supper National Youth Gathering fundraiser. Friday, April 15, 6-9pm Join us to learn why teens experience stress, anxiety, and depression and how faith can make a difference.
