Submitted by Rex Vermillion That s the question this year s Morris Distinguished Preaching Series speaker will ask in three compelling messages Sunday and Monday, April 22nd and 23rd. Rich Kannwischer, pastor of the 3,000-member St. Andrew s Presbyterian Church, Newport Beach, CA will be on a speaking marathon of sorts, preaching the first message of the Series at all three Sunday morning services, April 22nd. He will give his second sermon in a special 5:00 p.m. Sunday service in the Fellowship Center. Rich will complete the Series at a noon lunch in the Parlor, Monday, April 23rd from 11:45 until 12:45 which will allow people to come from work, have a box lunch and still get back before 1:00 p.m. Of Rich s theme, What Are You Doing with the Rest of Your Life? Rev. Howard Griffin says, We only spend a very small percentage of our time in church, and Rich s theme comes from his conviction that wherever you are, wherever you go, whether it be your office, your school, a social event, wherever, God has sent you there and he wants you to be a light of his love where he sends you. Kannwischer, a native of Waco, is known to some in the congregation for his work a few years ago as the navigator for the year-long planning process in which representatives from all areas of the membership developed the church s vision for the future. At that time, he was pastor of First Presbyterian Church, San Antonio. Reserve your box lunch for $7.00 by noon, Friday, April 20th. You may bring your own lunch, but please reserve a seat so that adequate seating can be arranged. Prepayment for the box lunch is urged to expedite checking in, distribution of the box lunches, and beginning the message at 12:10. Reservations and pre-payment may be made online at firstpres.com or by calling the automated reservation line, Care for children through kindergarten will be available at all services. For 21 years, The Joe S. and Lettie S. Morris Distinguished Preaching Series has brought outstanding preachers to First Pres for the benefit of the congregation and community. On April 22nd and 23rd, what will you be doing with your life? Welcome, New Members!

MAUNDY THURSDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY SERVICES On Maundy Thursday we celebrate the Lord s Supper remembering that it was on this night that our Lord and Savior told his disciples in the upper room after breaking the bread, This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me (Luke 22:19). In the same way after supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. Please join us at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 th, in our Sanctuary for a family friendly Maundy Thursday service. Rev. Orlando Lopez will be preaching and Chuck Alexander will be leading worship as we come to the Lord s table on this special evening of worship and remembrance. On Good Friday, we have a service of darkness remembering the darkness that came over the land on the Friday that Jesus was crucified. Norman Goad and our wonderful choir will lead us through a moving service of diminishing lights as we gather for worship to remember the great sacrifice our Lord and Savior made for us. Please join us at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6 th, for a time of thoughtful reflection and worship. SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL "BACH'S" LUNCHES CONTINUE The "Bach s" lunches are a wonderful time for Lenten reflection and good music among friends. Held at various churches every Friday during Lent, each program will begin promptly at 12:05 p.m. with a 25-minute organ recital.

4 Following the recital, the host church will provide tea, coffee and a place to eat. You ll have plenty of time to get Bach to work by 1:00 p.m. This event has been very well received for 16 years, so plan to attend the Seventeenth Annual "Bach s" Lunch Series! Friday, March 23rd First Presbyterian Church, Norman Goad, Organist Friday, March 30th St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Margaret Lacy, Organist GROW REAL LIFE TO FEATURE DENA LOPEZ Real Life will resume meeting on Tuesday, April 3rd, from 11:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., in the Parlor. Dena Lopez, wife of our Hispanic ministry pastor, will be the speaker. Dena will recount her faith journey and tell how she loves to share the love of Christ to let everyone know they are not alone in their struggles. All women of First Pres are encouraged to attend and guests are welcome. A catered lunch will be provided for $8.00, or you may bring your own lunch, but let us know you are coming so we will have adequate seating. As an added convenience, childcare will be available. Reservations must be made for lunch as well as childcare no later than noon on Friday, March 30th, by calling the automated reservation line at Dena grew up in Amarillo, attended Amarillo College, and after much prayer surrendered to the call of God. She attended the Latin American Bible Institute where she met the love of her life, Orlando Lopez. They graduated, married, moved out of state, and began their first pastorate, all within three months. They have three children. The Lopez family moved back to Amarillo in 2006 to begin their second pastorate. After two years they felt the call to plant a church. They are currently doing just that at First Pres. The Road Fellowship, First Pres bilingual fellowship will meet on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel beginning May 6th. Until then, they have a monthly "preview" service the last Sunday of each month at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. DIVORCE CARE Working through a divorce? First Pres Singles Ministry would like to offer a spring Divorce Care small group for anyone working through this difficult time. If interested, please contact Kim Talley at kimt@firstpres.com or CONNECT SESSION UPDATE Monday night our Session began its study of the Session and Congregational Covenant of the Fellowship of Presbyterians. 5 flourishing churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ. This group has been formed by evangelical pastors in the PC(USA) who have a concern about the current direction of our denomination. If you would like to know more about the Fellowship of Presbyterians you can go to their web page NUFFs ON THE GO The NUFFs will be traveling to the Science Spectrum Museum and Omni Theater in Lubbock on Monday, March 26 th. We will leave the church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. in private cars. Cost is $12.00 per person and lunch will be a Dutch treat at Furr s Cafeteria. We will then take a tour of the Leonardo da Vinci the Genius and then see the Rocky Mountain Express in the Omni Theater. We will return to the church around 5:00 p.m. Please call Gerry Yock at by Friday, March 23 rd to pay and confirm your reservation. BRIDGE PLAYERS WANTED The Wednesday bridge affinity group is hoping to attract new players! The group currently meets at 1:00 p.m. in the Westminster Room on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The group does not currently have a leader, so as the head of the affinity groups, I am asking for your input. Is there a better day/time? Is there a need for lessons? Are you not now attending but would like to attend? Would you like to be in charge of this group? Do you have ideas for a better format? I would love to hear from you. These items will be taken to the food pantry at Generation Next Worship Center to be available for our Neighbors and others in the community. You may bring these items to the missions table in the Great Hall. If you have questions, please contact Anita Goodrum at or anitag@firstpres.com. HELP HEM BLANKETS FOR EVELINE RIVERS Join the Jean Miller Circle in hemming blankets for Eveline Rivers Christmas boxes. Thousands of pieces of fleece are being hemmed throughout the Panhandle to put in Christmas boxes for needy children. For some children, these blankets will be their only blankets. We do this in the spirit of Dorcas (Acts 7:36-39). Blankets can be hemmed by non-sewing methods, sewing machine, serger or hand sewn. If you are doing the blanket stitch by hand and would like to have the edges pre-punched, please call Barbara Biehler at or her at bab5@suddenlink.net. Hemming of the blankets takes place from March-October.

6 Blankets, along with directions and sign-up sheets will be in boxes next to the officers' mail boxes in the office hallway. Hemmed and un-hemmed blankets will be due to the church on October 7 th in order to be returned to Eveline Rivers by October 11th. Please share this mission and deliver blankets to persons confined at home who would like blankets delivered to them to hem. Please call Barbara Biehler at or Barbara Harrison at for more information. Unsubscribe from this list South Harrison, Amarillo, Tx Copyright (C) 2012 First Presbyterian Church All rights reserved.
