Here are some summer reading recommendations that may help you find room for more hope and joy in your lives. The Book of Joy by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

One of our parishioners said that after reading this book she found herself waking up with more joy in her heart each day. The Day The Revolution Started by N.T. Wright.

The death of Jesus changed the world for the better. they believed that with this event the one true God had suddenly and dramatically put into operation his plan for the rescue of the world.

Yes, this book is about a difficult and tragic experience but reading this little meditation on life may fill you with hope.

Cross SUMMER READING Summer is traditionally a time to find some peace, recharge our batteries and reflect on the blessings in our lives. Here are some summer reading recommendations that may help you find room for more hope and joy in your lives. The Book of Joy by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. These two Nobel Laureate friends let us listen in to their discussion on the nature of true joy. Their reflections include stories, wisdom and science. One of our parishioners said that after reading this book she found herself waking up with more joy in her heart each day. The Day The Revolution Started by N.T. Wright. Written by one of my favorite Biblical scholars, N.T. reframes the traditional church view of the crucifixion, by recapturing the excitement and passion of his followers. The death of Jesus changed the world for the better. they believed that with this event the one true God had suddenly and dramatically put into operation his plan for the rescue of the world. They saw it as the day the revolution began. You Will Not Have My Hate by Antoine Leiris. Yes, this book is about a difficult and tragic experience but reading this little meditation on life may fill you with hope. Leiris has written an achingly beautiful memoir about the death of his wife, Hélène, in the 2015 Paris terror attacks. Told during the immediate days after his wife s murder, Leiris, together with his seventeen-month old son, grapples with how they must go on living what makes this memoir soar is Leiris s refusal to surrender to hatred and anger towards those that murdered his wife: So, no, I will not give you the satisfaction of hating you, he writes all his life this little boy will defy you by being happy and free. Humming with humanity, grace and intelligence, You Will Not Have My Hate will alter the ground below you and the sky above. The Hidden Life of Trees; What They Feel, How They Communicate-Discoveries From a Secret World by Peter Wolleben. This book shaped the experiences we integrated into our Sabbatical. Creation, often referred to as the first book of Scripture, has much to teach us about God s grand design of the universe. Wolleben writes from his experience as a German forest ranger. His observations of the life of trees reveals astounding glimpses of the blessings of God at work in the world. We sentient creatures should be humbled and take the time to learn the lessons of life from our fellow inhabitants of God s good earth. The Father Brown Mysteries by G. K. Chesterton. Summer reading would not be complete without a good mystery. You may be familiar with the Father Brown series on Public Television but have you read the original mysteries? Intriguing and fun these mysteries were written by the prolific author, journalist, and theologian. Amidst the suspense and fun you will find yourself reflecting on the human condition and our relationship with God. The Gospel in Tolstoy by Leo Tolstoy, Miriam LeBlanceditor. Better known for his defining works such as War and Peace, Anna Karina and The Brothers Karamazov, Tolstoy was also a prolific author of short stories. He was a serious student of Christianity and his meditations on faith are embedded throughout his stories. In turns humorous and thought provoking these stories will entertain you and perhaps cause you to reflect on your life of faith. Just Saying Observations and Opinions of an Old Salt by Bill Dial. And now for something completely different. I am sure our own Bill Dial never imagined his book would be mentioned along-side Tolstoy, G. K. Chesterton and the Dali Lama. However, if you are looking for some short meditations on life with a good dose of humor, this is the book for you. Parishioner and proud curmudgeon, Dial will put some lift in your step and sparkle in your eyes. - Father Kevin

Thank you to all who helped make our 2 nd Annual Celebrate Oxford event a big success. Special thanks go out to G.L. Fronk for his grill master skills which were sorely challenged by the monsoon that struck just as he began grilling. Master is the word to describe his skill level! Thank you to Jack Noble for building a conductor platform for guest conductors who offer concerts at Holy Trinity. Jack, you are a man of many talents. Thank you to Otts Schnellenberger, Jack Noble, Midge Menzies and Cynthia Pyron who worked on completing the cabin we donated to Camp Wright. Thank you to Meg van den Berg and the Talbot Garden Club for their donation that enabled our building of the beautiful new Bell Tower. Thanks too to Kathy Gilson, Cameron MacTavish, Suzanne Litty, Jack Noble and Rich Wagner for taking on the design contracting and installation of the tower. Our thanks rings out to you. Thanks to Jim Foster and Larry Paz for installing new parish doors on the back exits. Much appreciation to Rich Wagner for his interesting and illuminating series on Faith and Science. With gratitude and appreciation Fr. Kevin WYE OAK SAPLING PLANTED Emerald Isle Landscaping has done it again. Two years ago, a sapling from the original Wye Oak was donated to the church. It has been carefully tended to in a pot until this year when our own arborist Kathy Glison said Its time. Emerald Isle brought a new employee on board this year to assist one of E.I. s co-founders, Bob Kelly with planting the oak in the lawn near the Columbarium. The other E.I. co-founder, Tot O Mara was too busy supervising her soybean crop to take on this project. But Kelly s green thumb should ensure a successful transplant. We pray this sapling will grow into a magnificent tree whose canopy will offer respite and shade for many generations to come. It meets at 9:15 am between services. Just Saying: Observations and Opinions of an Old Salt Parishioner Bill Dial is a good old boy from Northwest Florida. He grew up on or near the water: the beautiful blue springs and rivers flowing from the deep aquifers beneath Florida and on and in the nearby Gulf of Mexico. This love of water led to a 31-year career in the US Navy. William is a master diver and former SCUBA instructor. He was a search and rescue navy corpsman and upon retiring from the navy became an Accredited Marine Surveyor and a Certified Emergency Manager. During all these years, he had what he describes as a hyperactive sense of adventure. His writings reflect his adventures. Baptism William John O Mara Basil Munson DeLashmutt V. Jarboe Arland DeLashmutt ACTS OF THE APOSTLES BIBLE STUDY At the 2017 Diocesan Convention, Bishop San announced his desire to have all parishes engage in a study of the Book of Acts. Bishop San has developed a study program based on the book Acts; 24 Studies for Individual and Groups by N.T. Wright. This program will begin later this summer and be completed by the First Sunday of Advent. A signup sheet is posted in the Parish Hall or you may call the office at to express you interest in the group. The dates and time will be determined by the group. Please join us in the Parish Hall for what promises to be a time of good humor and perhaps a bit of wisdom. Please join us for a fascinating journey exploring the development of the Christian faith. 5 Page 5 Mission & Outreach LIFELINE FOOD PANTRY Summertime and the living is easy. Not if you are one of the many families struggling to feed your family. Summer provides vegetables and fruits, but the need for staples is still there. Coffee, tea, sugar, flour, spices, canned meats, pastas, and muffin mixes are all good items to bring to our pantry to be taken to the Neighborhood Service Center. Sharing is caring and we all care. CAREPACKS FOOD DRIVE Once again, the response to the Food Drive for the Care Packs project was overwhelming! Two station wagons were packed with the generous donations from our parishioners. Thank you all so much for your donations. The food was delivered to the pantry in Easton the next day and was very gratefully received as the cars were unloaded. This great outreach program now serves over 380 students in Talbot County in seven different schools. We will have another Food Drive in the fall. Again, thank you for your generosity in helping to fill the stomachs of these children in need. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful parishioners here at Holy Trinity. ECW CANNING PROJECT We re thinking ahead during the heat of the summer to the Holiday Bazaar in December! A new committee is being formed this year to can vegetables, jams, pickles, etc. (Nadine Russell will not be contributing this year due to health concerns. We certainly thank her for all her generous work as well as donations to the Bazaar for many years. We will miss her.) If you have an interest in joining this committee, please contact Lora Joseph by lorajoseph1@gmail.com. Whether you have done this type of project before OR you would like to learn, please let Lora know. Also, let her know if you can individually and would like to donate some of your produce to the Bazaar. We are enthusiastic about this new venture and hope you will be, too! SAVE THE DATE!! ECW DONATES TO LOCAL MISSIONS Our Holy Trinity ECW (Episcopal Church Women) organization meets once a year to discuss options and distribute funds to support local missions. At the annual meeting in May, most of the funds raised from the 2016 Christmas Bazaar and the 2017 Plant Sale totaling $17, were given to groups and organizations serving Oxford and Talbot County. A complete list of these groups and organizations is posted on the Bulletin Board in the Parish Hall. We are excited to welcome Monte for a return concert, performing on our restores pipe organ. Monte's Oxford concerts are always a delight! Our new Bell Tower has been erected.

6 LIFELINE Page 6 FUN DAY IN THE PARK Sunday, July 30 at 12 noon Waters Church is hosting a FUN DAY IN THE PARK for all three of our Oxford Churches. It will feature food, fun and fellowship. Waters will bring the main dishes; Holy Trinity is asked to bring sides; and Oxford Methodist will bring the desserts. We hope you can join us at the park. BELL TOWER RESURRECTED! CONCERTS MONTE MAXWELL SATURDAY, AUGUST 7pm Monte serves as the Chapel organist at the United State Naval Academy, where he is the principal organist in addition to working with the Chapel Choirs, the Chorale, Glee Clubs and over sees the Chapel Organ Concert Series. A highly respected organist, Monte performs concerts and recitals nationally and internationally. We are excited to welcome Monte for a return concert, performing on our restores pipe organ. Monte's Oxford concerts are always a delight! Our new Bell Tower has been erected. It is a beautiful structure and the bell has rung out sweetly to announce our services in July. A formal dedication of the tower will be held in the near future. JEREMY FILSELL FRIDAY OCTOBER 7pm Jeremy Filsell is one of the very few virtuoso performers on both the piano and the organ. He regularly performs concerts as a pianist, organist, chamber musician and accompanist. Jeremy is the Artist-in-Residence at Washington National Cathedral (DC), Director of Music at the Church of the Epiphany (DC), and Professor of Organ at Peabody Conservatory (Baltimore, MD). We are very honored to be able to share this amazing musician and wonderful friend with you! FELLOWSHIP The Fellowship Committee would like to thank Ann Bellinger, Anne-Lise Fink, Doris Hughes, Ellen Anderson, Pat Martin, Louise Thorndike, and Sandy and Ron Kaufman for hosting coffee hours in June. We are in need of hosts for August 2017, so please consider helping. We will gather outside for refreshments for the next few months. The sign up sheet is in the Parish Hall.
