1 March, 2017 MESSAGES FROM LAY DIRECTORS De Colores San Diego Emmaus Community! E-109 is fast approaching, and I m pleased to report that we have a strong team of willing servants in place. However, additional kitchen workers are always welcome. How else can you serve the upcoming Walks? Pray! Pray! Pray! Pray for the health and well-being of the men s and women s teams. Pray also for a spirit of revival in our community that will yield an ample harvest of Pilgrims. You can also support the Walks through your gifts of Agape, the 72 hour prayer vigil and your attendance at Candlelight and Closing. Please prayerfully consider how you can contribute to the success of the Walks. Remember how awesome your own Walk experience was? Pay it forward! He has provided and continues to provide an amazing team of women for E-110. Perhaps you would like to join us! Guess what else He will provide...the Pilgrims! Has He put someone on your heart to sponsor? If not, please take time to be still and reflect on your Walk, whether it was last year or 30 years ago. Who do you know who needs a booster shot of God's unconditional love? What a gift you can provide to a dear one by offering the invitation. In His love, Diane Moss MESSAGE FROM COMMUNITY SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR Matthew 5:16: "I'm putting you on a light stand... shine!... Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." [MSG] There are some things that just can't remain hidden. Take, for example, an encounter with the divine. Judging from the remarks of those who shared during the Next Day celebration (following the most recent Face to Face Encounter), and remembering the remarks of many who have experienced the Walk to Emmaus, small fires were fanned into huge flames. Surely, you can't keep something like that to yourself! You just have to tell somebody! Tom Lowe encouraged us to "Pay it forward!" I am proposing those of you who have ever experienced a Face to Face Encounter or Walk to Emmaus "Say it forward!" Share your experience with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, anyone who could use a spiritual jolt! Invite them to experience what made your spirit come alive again! You don't need public speaking experience to share your heart! "Hide it under a bushel, NO! I'm gonna let it shine!" Let that be your motto! DELIVER Personal Agape Attend Sponsor s Hour Check with Pilgrim's spouse to DETERMINE assistance needed Attend to Saturday commitment Attend Closing, RECONFIRM pick up for 4th Day After Weekend Attend 4th Day CONFIRM Reunion Group invitation or Formation Correction: The Emmaus Board meetings are changed to: The second Thursday every month starting January 14th. REMINDERS Photography, other than the official weekend photos, is not permitted on the weekend. It is tempting at Candlelight and Closing to take out your cell phones and snap a photo but please respect the privacy of the Pilgrims and refrain from taking photographs. Children are not appropriate for Candlelight or Closing but are always welcome at Gatherings or other Community events. In Memoriam of Marrill Parvin Merrill Parvin is a wonderful brother in Christ and a faithful servant of our Emmaus community. Merrill served both on teams and on the Board of Directors as the Community Musician. Merrill died February 14 after an extended illness. His memorial is scheduled for March 11 at 11am at Carlsbad Community Church. We thank God for Merrill and pray for comfort for Lisa and their four children. Our San Diego Walk to Emmaus web site contains the latest calendar information. It also has an Upper Room video where you can refer your potential Pilgrim for Walk information and an over view of the program. Also, Like us on Facebook to view community activities.

3 Page 3 From Where I Sit As you probably know already, preparation for E-109 and E-110 are in full swing. Your Lay Directors are getting their ducks in a row. They ve been working hard and now it s time for each of us to step up and get actively involved. Several ways you can make a difference: FIRST ~ Sponsor someone to experience a renewed relationship with Christ. Applications are available at SDEMMAUS.ORG website. The current fee structure is $100 per Pilgrim, $50 paid by the sponsor and $50 paid by the participant. Don t wait! Talk to someone today about how your Walk impacted your life and invite them to meet Jesus on the road. SECONDLY ~ Work on the weekend. Remember what you heard in the talks? We are the hands and feet of Jesus. Sign up to be part of the Team kitchen, musician, set up/tear down, or wherever needed. Team fees remain the same - $80 for full time support or $25 a day for part time participation. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO? Contribute Agape for the Pilgrims Attend the Candlelight ceremony on both Saturdays Attend the Closing ceremony on both Sunday afternoons Send your completed applications and fees to: San Diego Emmaus Community P.O. Box San Diego, CA Or bring them to the team meeting. We are striving for 100% participation from the community. Can the SD Emmaus Board count on YOU? Barb Bennett, Registrar Thoughts on Agape Agape is encouraged! Personal Agape is collected by the Sponsor only. Sponsors will receive specific information from the Registrar as to Personal Agape. General Agape is encouraged by everyone in the Community! Computer generated agape or trinkets for bed agape are welcomed for Team and Pilgrims. Hand written notes can be particularly meaningful. It is helpful if you alphabetize your agape (if it is for specific people) and bring it down to the retreat center on Thursday night. If you know a Pilgrim, you may submit a note even if it is not part of the Personal Agape collected by the Sponsor. If you don t know the Pilgrim personally it is still appropriate to write a note. Don t forget the Team. If possible, include items for team. Bring any and all Agape down on Thursday night. Send it down with a team member if you are not going down yourself.

None of us take credit for how God directs us, and we are grateful to serve Him by serving the Pilgrims. Instead of putting a list in this issue of the Rooster Doodles, we will send out an blast closer to the Walk dates. Updates: You can check the website for updates on Pilgrim and Team names. Prayer Vigil for the upcoming Walks We cover the Pilgrims continuously in prayer during their Walk and we need your help. A Prayer Vigil will be set up for Walks E109 and E110 (similar to previous Walks and Face2Face Encounters). It will have one hour blocks of time but you are welcome to sign up for as many blocks as you wish. After signing up you will receive an confirmation. 5 Page 5 FACE2FACE ENCOUNTER #4 FOLLOW UP On behalf of the new Next Day Community and Team of Encounter #4, I give thanks to God for Community support at Closing and the Next Day Gathering. As always, we are blessed by the sharing of Pilgrim's plans for their Next Days as the result of the Encounter. Add to that the Blessings of our three speakers sharing specifics of their next steps with Christ during Next Day Worship. Others also shared their intentions to serve on future Teams, in Reunion Groups, in Sponsoring and encouraging others. When we as Community experience these special times, we are refreshed in our own zeal in His Service! Everyone enjoyed your homemade baked goods, fruit bowls, veggie trays, donut holes, nuts, candies, cheese & crackers and beverages. As usual, no one went away hungry!! And we want to acknowledge our faithful servers at the King s Lunch Harry Benter, Mike Sorce, Gary Jackson, Ron Clapsaddle and Kathy Johnson for volunteering their time and expertise in the special role they played for the Pilgrims. One woman beamed as she described how special she felt when a bow-tied gentleman offered his arm to escort the Daughter of the King to her table. Finally, we sing the praises of our lunchroom crews. It was a delight to serve with each of you. In particular, we want to thank the Reunion Groups who provided the food as agape ~ FIGs (Forward in Grace, No. County Face to Face) for their soup/salad and bread offering EWES (Emmaus Women Embracing Service, Clairemont WTE) for the fabulous lasagna casserole, salad, and garlic bread Coronado Crown Jewels for the delicious pots of chili with toppings, salad, and bread. And by the way, Ladies, all your desserts were spectacular. Thanks also to the North County Men s Reunion group for their generous cash donation to offset a portion of the cost of the King s Lunch. We so appreciate all who had a hand in nourishing our Pilgrims as well as keeping the Table of Temptation stocked and helping with set up and clean up.
