With 40 days to go until Election Day, some may feel that same sinking feeling and wonder as I m sure Noah did I can t take this much longer, but what will happen once this is over? Let s be truthful, the election season can be brutal to watch, and this year seems worse than ever. A recent headline from the Wall Street Journal proclaimed Clinton s Unfavorable Rating Nearly Matching Trump s underlining the fact that we ve never had two more disliked/distrusted candidates, which will only make coming together and moving forward all the more difficult after the election is over, regardless of who wins. So what do we do? Some will be overwhelmed with the fears of that candidate becoming our president. Some may be looking for relocation destinations beyond our borders to escape that fate. Some will get caught up in the emotional turmoil, with anxiety and anger following. Some may try to tune it out. Some may simply give up. Here are a couple thoughts from the Bible that might help us through: 1, we are called to pray. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 invites us to first of all, that petitions, Continued next page

2 2 (John Motz, pastor cont.) prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority. 2, engage in the debate to make this country better. Proverbs 31:8-9 invites us to Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. And 3, while we are invited to engage politically, remember politics is not the answer, God is! Isaiah 33:22 says For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is He who will save us. Christmas Production Hey NLCC: Christmas is coming, and we need a lot of participants (singers, actors/actresses, backstage assistance, prop/costume design/creation, etc.) for a great Christmas production. The musical chosen: In a Galilee Far, Far Away. Plot description: A spaceship crew is trying to get home before Christmas but on their journey they rediscover the importance/greatness of Christmas. Date of production: December 18th, 2016 at 5pm. Start date of rehearsals is now!! Next one is Wednesday, October 5th, 7pm at the church. Please call Stevie Chan or Katie Koehn with your questions. Operation Christmas Child 2016 With the fall season upon us, NOW is the time to start collecting your items for the wonderful shoe boxes with Operation Christmas Child. This is your opportunity to bring a young child across the globe to Christ through a simple gift. You have the power to make this happen by filling a shoe box this season. November is fast approaching and I would love to have a plentiful plethora of boxes that will NOT fit in my car this year! Lets make this happen with our largest collection yet this November 20th, 2016! For ideas on how to pack a box, register your box online (which will allow you to follow your box wherever it goes!) or to donate to the OCC program, go to: For questions, donations or to help with the collection, please contact Joanna Campanario Women s Retreat Ladies, have you given thought to attending the Spring Women s Retreat at Redwood Christian Park? I had the opportunity to hear Megan Fate Marshman, one of the speakers, at a women s event in Chowchilla this past month. She is indeed a powerful presenter who knows how to deliver the message of Christ and His love for each of you. I was blessed to hear her message, and know she ll have even more for those who choose to attend. The retreat, held in Boulder Creek April 28th-30th, is fully planned with times for worship, inspiration, reflection, and fellowship. Meals are provided beginning with dinner on Friday and ending with brunch in Sunday. Most of the ladies stay in cabins at RCP, although other housing is available for those who register early. The cost for the weekend (in a cabin) is $179. Bedding and towels are not provided in the cabins, but they do have bunk beds, bathrooms, heaters and room to visit. A nonrefundable/nontransferable deposit of $50 will hold your spot, with the balance due March 27th, Scholarships are available for any who need a little help. Please feel free to ask Pastor John or Mary Herbert if it would help you commit to attending. Consider giving this gift to yourself for next year. The retreats are always powerful in both the message from the speaker and the relationships that grow between women. 4 YEE-HAW!! Chili Feed At New Life we food!! And, on Oct. 21st we happily invite you to come enjoy some amazing chili and cornbread with us. Yep, it s the Annual NLCC Mission Outreach Chili Feed & Auction fundraiser. This event is FREE, so please bring a friend to sample many varieties of chili; peruse and bid on some fantastic silent & live auction items and lets not forget the awesome fellowship time of being together with your NLCC family. Meet at the Arnold BARN, 8250 Fruitland Ave., on Oct. 21st from 6-8pm. Funds raised will be used to support missionaries and outreach mission currently supported by NLCC. NLCC Sewing Ministry The sewing ministry will meet again on Saturday, October 29th. We ll gather at Mary Herbert s house from 9- noon, working on baby bibs, burp cloths, gowns and blankets. 5 5 This last month we took a group of teens to Santa Cruz Beach Blitz, as we gathered to end the summer in one last event with our teens. The sounds of the crashing waves, the worship on the beach brought the harmony of teens singing the summer of 2016 away. Hearing the noise of hundreds of screaming teens and the sounds of rollercoasters was awesome! This made me reflect on how life as teenager or even as an adult, is like a rollercoaster. You see the book John 14:1 tells us, Do not let your heat be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. You see o en life feels like a wild ride on a mega-thrill rollercoaster, full of super high and terrifying lows. Without control over the coaster, your only op on is to hang on and ride it! We will have many experiences like that as we mature in our Chris an faith. Some mes life will seem so wonderful and exhilara ng, other mes it may seem like things spinning off track. But, Jesus tell us that he is like that lap bar on that runaway rollercoaster. As long as we cling on to Him ghtly during crazy mes, He will hold us together. Life around the teenage world has been extremely busy. Our teens are working in many areas of growth in maturing. A er all the fun and memories summer has le this group, we are now star ng to focus on the serving aspect. Teaching our teens to serve and do without self recogni on. Giving all the glory to God! Each of you should use whatever gi you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God s grace in its various forms (1Peter 4:10). Here are some of the events that will be taking place this coming up month. We will be par- cipa ng in Love Atwater on October 1st. Please keep us in prayer as we prepare and serve meals to community in the Determine Area. Church in the Park October 9th is another opportunity we get to come along the church and set up and be the church. Also on October 22nd the Mission Team will be holding it s 2016 Chili Feed & Auc on. Our teens will be a great deal of help. They are all excited to what the month of October has to offer as we give back with pure hearts and mo va ng hands. Thank you, Jesus for allowing us to serve our teens as they prepare to serve their mission field. Let us be in constant prayer for these lives.
