2 Happy Mother s Day! To all of our parishioners who have given motherly love to children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, friends and neighbors: Happy Mother s Day Roses for Mom are being sold this weekend. If Mom is deceased, a white one can be purchased and placed on the altar. The money raised supports the Parish Mission Trip. The Beatitudes for Mothers Blessed are mothers who did without for us..they will be rewarded. Blessed are mothers who lost sleep when we were sick...they will find rest. Blessed are mothers who taught us how to pray...they will share God s kingdom. Blessed are mothers who comforted us...they shall be comforted. Blessed are mothers who taught us right from wrong...they will know justice. Blessed are mothers who showed us the Christian life by example...they will live forever. Blessed are mothers who shared with us the meaning of peace...they shall know peace. Getting to Know our Newest Catholic Sisters/Brothers Humberto Vasquez Rocha Before entering RCIA, my relationship with God was not the best. Growing up in the city of Chicago I was around a Latino community that was mostly all Catholic. My mother was religious and always tried showing us about our religion, but I was young and didn t listen. It never caught my attention until we started coming to RCIA classes. I was going into the RCIA classes with the mindset of going in and out, but that quickly changed. My fiancée Ellerin and I were to attend the RCIA classes so we can make our First Communion. We ended up liking the RCIA classes and really got involved with the class activities. The RCIA classes has gotten me closer to God and the Church community. My faith has grown and gotten stronger since we started RCIA. The way I can prove that is by the way of my thinking. I think of others that are in need and catch myself praying for them. I am also getting into the routine of praying for myself. I thank God for everything He has given me and I try to do all that God would want me to do. Doing such things has really given me a peace of mind. It really makes me feel better and closer to God. I am learning to communicate with God and I want to keep on learning. My faith is getting stronger as I learn more and that really makes me feel great. Being around others with the same interest really helps me open up to the Lord. I would love to continue being part of the St. Charles Borromeo community and attend Mass. I would also love to continue with the classes because they have really helped me in every aspect of my life. A Prayer for Mothers God our Creator, we pray:...for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility;...for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting;...for those who are tired, stressed or depressed;...for those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family;...for those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;...for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities;...for those who have children they do not want;...for those who raise children on their own;...for those who have lost a child;...for those who care for the children of others;...for those whose children have left home;...and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled. Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender, and that they may lead their children to know and do what is good, loving not for themselves alone, but for God and for others. Amen. Spread the Gospel, the Good News about Jesus and His Borromeo Family! A Holy Community through Holy Communion. Your Brother in Jesus,

God loved the Son, Jesus. The Son loves his followers, and the followers show their love for God through their love for one another. It is clear in this reading that while we are part of this circle, we are only part of it because God chose us to be. Our response to God s choice for us is simply to show our love for God through the love we show to other human beings. The lives of parents are very full and busy. It s like juggling apples and catching each falling one to prevent it from splatting to the floor while tossing the others high in the air. But sometimes we need to think beyond the immediate demands of jobs, family, and home. When we widen the circle of those we include in our love, our children see first hand how we live this gospel message. When we reach out to others, especially those who are difficult to love, they learn by our example what Jesus asks us to do in showing our love to one another just as he shows his love to us. 1. I recall a time when I was excluded from someone s love. I remember feeling 2. The one person who always loves me and makes me feel welcome is 3. I know that God loves me. Without thinking too highly of myself, I also love myself especially for the way This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends: John 15: Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we should be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. We pray that we open our hearts to Jesus, offering Him all that we have, out of love and gratitude, without expecting anything in return. ANNUAL ROGATION DAYS Asking for God s blessings on our crops and plantings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week with 7am Mass at St. Francis church in Portage des Sioux north on Hwy. 94. 7 St. Charles Borromeo Religious Education Sixth Sunday of Easter May 10, 2015 Dear Parishioners, Along with God s creation and our evolving Mary s Garden on the lower parking lot, our PSR students have been faithfully learning traditional Catholic prayers. What is prayer and why should we memorize some and say others off the cuff? I think all prayers are prayed from the heart - even those we memorize. These help us connect to all Catholics throughout the world. Prayer is one relating to God in the deepest recesses of one s personality. One seeking and communing with the living God! Our PSR fifth graders have been working hard all year to learn to listen to God speak to them in prayer and also learning traditional Catholic prayers. They celebrated their achievements with a pizza prayer party, hosted by Dan and Sheila Kitzmann! In addition to feeding their bodies, they fed their souls too. You can see the great art work of prayers they created and are in display in our cafeteria! Today our entire community will gather to pray the Rosary in the gym at 10am we have specially invited our Moms! Registration for next year s PSR and preschool is underway. Students currently enrolled have received registration materials, so please take time to read and complete all the information sent home and return TODAY. New students in grades K-8 can obtain registration material from our parish website. We are in need of dedicated catechists to lead our young members in prayer, worship and the understanding of our Catholic faith. If you or someone you know may be interested, please don t hesitate to call the Religious Education Office, ! Students interested in the Sacrament of Confirmation next year, who attend the Academy of the Sacred Heart should contact the Religious Education Office to register for the program, which begins in August Interested in learning more about our Catholic Faith? The Rite of Catholic Initiation of Adults (RCIA) continues to meet on Tuesday evenings through June from 7 to 8:30pm. All are welcome to join us as we reflect and discuss scripture and Catholic teachings. We are so blessed and thankful for your continued prayers for the success of all our Religious Education programs. In the love and peace of Jesus Mrs. Becca McCullough Vacation Bible School Registration is now available online at the parish website: On the homepage, under News & Upcoming Events click REGISTER ONLINE NOW at the 2015 Vacation Bible School link. 8 Happy Mother s Day! MINISTRIES MATTER A quick look into the Ministries of St. Charles Borromeo Groundskeepers These men are truly the keepers of the fields and their reward will be in heaven. Comprised of a team of volunteers who keep the grounds looking pristine by cutting the grass, trimming, raking leaves, planting flowers, etc. We all are so grateful and proud of their beautiful work: Archie Wayne, les Echele, Charlie Schroeder, Bob Glosier, John Weber, Dave Schaeffer. Always looking for more volunteers who can be available during the week. Contact: Charlie Schroeder, The Ministry of GREETERS Welcome! It s just one word, but it can truly make a huge difference in someone s experience when visiting our church. A warm welcome and inviting smile can help put people at ease, especially those who have never been to a Catholic church or those who may be returning after a long absence. In addition, people are more likely to return to Mass the next week if they know that they are welcome and wanted. So, in our efforts to bring as many people as possible to know Jesus Christ, we need your help to greet and welcome people before Mass! Being a greeter is simple and fun. There are no forms to fill out or weekly meetings to attend. Simply show up minutes early before the Mass of your choice and grab a greeter lanyard off the busy bag coat rack in the Narthex. You can also find them in left side of the Usher s closet (near the restroom). Put on the lanyard and your biggest, brightest smile and welcome all who enter our church as Jesus would. Being a greeter is also an excellent way to get your children involved in the parish! Please consider becoming a regular greeter at whichever Mass you attend regularly. It s a great way to get to know your fellow parishioners, and both the earthly and heavenly rewards you will gain are immensely satisfying!...then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. Matthew 25:34-35 With thanks and appreciation from the Parish Council LADIES SODALITY MEETING Tuesday, May 12 at 6:30pm in the café. We will have the rosary at 6:30 and then a catered dinner after cost is $10. Please call Barb at to make your reservation. May birthdays be sure to attend to get your birthday gift. CONGRATULATIONS to Kelly Hurley who is the May Quilt A Month winner. Still time to get your raffle tickets in for the next 7 drawings. Any questions or need a ride call Barb An Invitation to Nocturnal Adoration May 16, 7:00 p.m. in the Cafe Did you know that in addition to Eucharistic Adoration on the third Monday of every month, our parish offers Nocturnal Adoration on the third Saturday night each month? Nocturnal Adoration is a tradition that began in Rome more than 200 years ago and continues today in countries around the world. Borromeo parishioners who loved participating in Nocturnal Adoration throughout their childhood in Mexico have established the first Nocturnal Adoration Society in Missouri right here at Borromeo. All parishioners men, women, and children are invited to participate each month. The next Nocturnal Adoration is Saturday, May 16. All participants should meet in the Café at 7 p.m. After opening prayers, the group will go up upstairs for silent prayer, followed by prayers in Spanish and English. At approximately 8:30 p.m., a short period of silent prayer will end the first part of Nocturnal Adoration, and most participants will leave. However, a group of men will remain throughout the night, taking turns praying for an hour in church and then resting in the Café. If you would like to join the group of men who stay throughout the night, please contact Manuel Guerrero at manyguerrero.mg@gmail.com or

11 Second Graders Talk About Their Moms Why did God make mothers? 1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is. 2. Mostly to clean the house. 3. To help us out of there when we were getting born. How did God make mothers? 1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us. 2. Magic plus super powers, and a lot of stirring. 3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts. Sixth Sunday of Easter May 10, 2015 What ingredients are mothers made of? 1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean. 2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think. Why did God give you your mother and not some other Mom? 1. We're related. 2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's Moms like me. What kind of little girl was your Mom? 1. My Mom has always been my Mom and none of that other stuff. 2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy. 3. They say she used to be nice. What did Mom need to know about Dad before she married him? 1. His last name. 2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer? 3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores? Why did your Mom marry your Dad? 1. My Dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot. 2. She got too old to do anything else with him. 3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on. Who's the boss at your house? 1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because Dad's such a goof ball. 2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed. 3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than Dad. What's the difference between Moms and Dads? 1. Moms work at work and work at home, and Dads just go to work at work. 2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them. 3. Dads are taller and stronger, but Moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's. 4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine. What does your Mom do in her spare time? 1. Mothers don't do spare time. 2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long. What would it take to make your Mom perfect? 1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery. 2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue. If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be? 1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that. 2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me. 3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

12 Happy Mother s Day!
