1 November 2010 In all things give thanks Giving thanks is not what we do...it is who we are. As recipients of free and full grace and washed clean from every sin, we stand together as a thankful people. We are people who serve with a joyful spirit. We are a federation of twenty-eight congregations that shout the name of Jesus to our communities. We are families who teach the mighty deeds of a Creator and Savior to our children at home and school. I want to personally thank the members of our churches that participated in the Think of the Possibilities appeal. You show love and concern for the advancement of Christian education at KML to students you may not even know. God has provided his bounty through your gifts. Please continue to support the operating needs and the debt reduction Walking the Path campaign. God will be with us as we use his Word to educate, encourage, and equip his people for life and for eternity. David. W. You can use scrip for everything from your fall sweatshirt to your winter boots to your hunting supplies (Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain, L.L. Bean, Cabela s, Dick s Sporting Goods). Van for sale KML is selling its 1998 Dodge Van. This is a 15 passenger van, seats are removable for more hauling capacity, 5.9 liter V-8, 138,000 miles. This van would be perfect for a work vehicle. 3 How far do you have to go to do mission work? We read and hear about synod cutbacks and bringing missionaries home from foreign fields. This is not because the work is ineffective or the fields are not ready. As a church we are sometime harnessed by lack of funds. Yet the Lord still promises that his Word will not come back empty. If we cannot go there, God will give us more opportunities here. Three years ago KML began an international program to bring mission opportunities to our own student body. We are still learning how to be effective and serve students from other countries. Each day our students study the Word, worship their Creator, and grow in their relationship with Jesus the Savior. On November 2, Xu Fan Jerry from China was baptized during a special chapel service on campus. The entire student body rejoiced in the gift of faith and forgiveness that comes through the water and the word. They greeted Jerry into the family of believers with hugs and cheers. There are mission opportunities that come to us even if we cannot go to them. Jerry has shared the Word with his father in China. He has helped others to learn of Christ for the first time. The student body witnessed the baptism performed by Pastor Hughes. 3 Xu Fan Jerry is hosted by the Tim and Michelle Knight family of the federation. God used this family to accomplish his work of calling Jerry to faith.

4 This continues a series of inserts that will give you the latest information about the Walking the Path Together campaign. You will hear from many different ministry groups that are anxiously awaiting the added facility to the Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School campus. Articles coming from: P Worship Life P Academic Alumni P Art Athletics Band Choral Community Grade School Band Parent Student KML Performing Arts Center 4 The Performing Arts Center from the perspective of the Art Department The Performing Arts Center will truly bless the art program in an indirect manner by providing adequate space for all levels and types of visual art at KML. Currently, the visual arts program is limited by space. Students must put away all supplies and work before leaving the classroom every day. This creates a variety of issues. Moving artwork and supplies takes time away from the production of art. Setting up at the beginning and cleaning up at the end of class provide students with a very small amount of time to actually produce art (often as little as 25 minutes). Moving objects/desks makes it hard for artists to accurately draw/paint objects because their perspective changes from day to day. Lack of storage space for drying and storing student art places artwork at a high risk of damage and clutters all areas of the room. Lack of storage for supplies to be easily accessed creates more work for both students and instructors.

5 When the Performing Arts Center is built, the art room will move to the current music room which is approximately four times as large as the art room. This extra space would allow for a more organized and efficient art program. An area for each level of art would allow for quick and consistent set-up of subjects and material storage. Individual studio space for each artist would enable students to organize their own materials in a manner that best suits them. Additionally, they would not spend valuable class time looking for materials and putting materials away. Potential for development of other art classes would increase because space would be available that could be adapted to fit the needs of specific types of art. These art classes could include oil painting, ceramics, sculpture, mosaics, and metalworking. Overall, the Performing Arts Center will benefit not only the visual art program, but the entire school as well, by providing better facilities and organization as the KML family strives to cultivate the God-given abilities of its students. 7 Think of the Possibilities encouragement Every member of every church of the KML Federation was encouraged this fall to Think of the Possibilities. What if every member of the church would give just a $10 surplus gift to the high school ministry. Together we would show the love of Christian education as part of the church ministry. We have received 103 gifts from eighteen different congregations. Other churches have set aside a future date to consider all that God can do through Lutheran schools. If you did not receive an envelope, please ask your pastor or KML for another. You can submit your gift through the church collection plate or send it directly to KML. Tag your gift as Think of the Possibilities so that it is used for daily ministry needs. Each gift is an encouragement to our faculty, staff, and student body. Shaping tomorrow with gifts today... Your church has received envelopes from the KML Foundation. The Foundation is unique and separate from the daily ministry and capital programs of KMLHS. As a single purpose entity, the Foundation accepts current and deferred gifts to preserve and invest. Each year the Foundation uses the growth to provide tuition assistance to students. The larger the Foundation becomes the greater impact it can make for families who need financial help. The Foundation Board of Directors asks you to consider naming the KML Foundation in your estate plan. Your estate will be used for generations to come. 8 Culver s joins in the Homecoming spirit Culver s is once again hosting a class competition in addition to their 10% donation of KML sales given to the PATH campaign. Beginning in October and continuing through the end of the school year, Culver s will promote a friendly competition between classes. Culver s will keep a running total PER QUARTER and for the winning class, each member will receive a gift card for a FREE 2-Scoop Sundae. The first quarterly drawing will take place November 25. NEW THIS YEAR-Students who would like to go into a monthly drawing for a FREE 2-Scoop Sundae or a FREE Snack Pack can print their name on the coupon. The first individual winner was drawn on October 28. The October Value Basket winner was Andrea Meinert. Go to the KML web site to print your coupon good for November 10 and 24 or pick one up at the KML front office. Bring your family and friends! National Merit Scholarship Commended Students More than 1.5 million students took the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October and entered the National Merit Program, a nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The top 16,000 scorers were designated as semifinalists on a state representational basis. The next 34,000 high performers are considered to be Commended Students on the basis of a national selection index and are applicable to all participants without regard to state-by-state distribution. Two seniors from Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School earned Commended Student status by virtue of their excellent tests. Congratulations to Tyler Adams (Morning Star) and Erik Sohlden (Bethlehem). We thank God every time we see students using their God-given talents to the fullest and as they continue to discover and develop those talents.
