2 A Letter from Pastor Jason Dear Daybreak Family, It was over six years ago when I joyfully accepted the invitation to come on staff at Daybreak Church. My excitement was due largely to the fact that Daybreak had a reputation of being a church that focused its efforts on reaching people who were far from God. I ve seen many churches become more focused on catering to the preferences of its members rather than following Christ s example of going after lost sheep. From day one, Daybreak has been made up of people who have sacrificed greatly to make an eternal difference in the lives of unchurched people in North County. That is what attracted me to Daybreak, and now excites me even more. Over the past few years, Daybreak has undergone some major changes. During our ReachMore Vision Campaign, we renovated and expanded our campus to create fun and functional kids and youth environments. This allowed us to accommodate many new families. We improved our financial stewardship, which has allowed us to resource rapidly expanding ministries while continuing to support worldwide missions. Most importantly, we retooled our assimilation and discipleship strategy to ensure that people of all ages can experience life changing spiritual growth. Crowded kids classrooms, as well as increasing adult attendance, show that our sacrifices and efforts are working! I m thankful that we ve seen significant growth at Daybreak but our mission is far from complete! In Jesus Parable of the Talents, He teaches that God entrusts us with His resources and expects us to invest in His Kingdom s growth. He also teaches that harsh consequences await those who won t sacrifice and risk on His behalf. At Daybreak, our goal is not to build buildings; it is to transform the community around us. We must press on until every person in our community hears the good news of God s love. After much prayer, Daybreak s leaders have decided to embark upon a new vision campaign entitled SHINE. Our goals are to baptize 1,000 people over the next three years and have 5,000 people attend our 2015 Easter services. These God-sized goals reflect our audacious faith in His ability to accomplish extraordinary things through our church. We ll need to trust Him once again in a big way because, in order to transform our community and grow, building out our church campus is a necessity. Luke 12:48b says, From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded. God has entrusted much to our church. It s time to invest. It s time to sacrifice. It s time to grow forward. It s time to SHINE!

3 Phase III New Classrooms and Visitor Center $1,900,000 This addition consists of a two story building that would be attached to the west side of the Phase II Classroom and Office Building. This building will incorporate approximately 9,000 square feet of new classrooms including a Visitor Center, offices, a large multipurpose room, restrooms on both levels and a decorative parking drop off area and entrance trellis. Construction could commence as early as August, Phase P New Parking Lot and Grass Play Area $1,000,000 This phase incorporates a new asphalt parking lot that will accommodate an additional 215 vehicles on the church s westerly parcel (upper lot). It is proposed that the parking lot will be lighted and have an outdoor storage yard. This new lot will be adjoined to our easterly parcel (lower lot) with stairs and afford us an additional exit point (Fisherman Drive) that will significantly improve traffic flow. A grass play area of approximately 20,000 square feet will be added where our final phase of development is planned (New Worship Center). Construction could commence as early as first quarter, 2013.

4 Phase IV New Worship Center $6,000,000 This final phase of development, representing completion of the master plan, is planned to be an 18,000 square foot Worship Center that will seat approximately 880 people. Also included are numerous classrooms, multipurpose space and restrooms on both levels. A new plaza and covered entry has been incorporated in the design of the Worship Center as well as an outdoor baptistery/water feature located on the westerly slope of the plaza. Construction could commence as early as summer, Equal Gift not Equal Sacrifice Although we live in a very affluent area of the country, it s also an expensive place to live. In prayerfully considering how to support the SHINE campaign, keep in mind that everyone s ability to give is different. It s not the amount each gives that s important; it s the amount of sacrifice made above and beyond normal giving that matters. Here s what the book of Mark teaches us in Chapter 12:41-44 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything all she had to live on. We re asking everyone in our church to prayerfully consider what would constitute a sacrifice and commit that to help Daybreak fulfill the Great Commission.

5 Frequently Asked Questions What will happen if we don t increase our space? If we don t address these needs immediately, we will have to turn people away at our most crowded service times. We also risk losing families if their children cannot be cared for in a safe and uncrowded environment. How long will the SHINE Vision Campaign last? Pledges made now will be collected over the next three years. We will provide updates moving forward as we build out our campus and expand our outreach initiatives. Why do an extended campaign? Why not just announce that we need additional funds to build? Although funding is important, the SHINE Vision Campaign is not about buildings. Our goal is to transform lives and lead people to Christ. In order to do that effectively, we ll need more space, but that s only one part of the solution. This campaign is about the spiritual growth of Daybreakers and participating in God s eternal work. This is a pivotal time in the life of Daybreak and we want to include as many people as possible in the process. How will the money we raise be used? All of the funds collected will be used for two purposes: 1. Building out our campus to accommodate growth; 2. Resourcing outreach efforts to bring the good news to our community. We will not use campaign funds to support our normal operating budget. It is important that everyone understand that their pledge for the SHINE campaign be over and above normal giving.
