3 The Sacrament of Communion If you are sitting on the main floor of the sanctuary, when the usher comes to your row and opens the door, move to the center aisle and come forward to one of the 2 communion stations at the front of the church. You will be served some bread and then please dip the bread into the juice and eat it. Then, return prayerfully to your seat via a side aisle. Those sitting in the balcony will receive communion at a station there. If you need gluten free bread, please tell the server. Celebrating communion in this way enables us to come forward to receive the gifts of bread and wine. All are welcome at the table of the Lord. If you are worshiping with us for the first time this morning you will notice an usher will stand outside your pew to let you know when it is time for you to go forward to receive the Lord s gifts. We remind everyone to walk up the middle aisle to receive the gifts and to use the side aisles to return to your pew. The coming forward to receive these gifts enables us to be reflective and to ponder both the scriptures we have heard and the songs we have sung. If you wish to be served in your pew, please let the usher know and an elder will come to you. There will be water and rice wafers for those who are unable to partake of bread and/or juice. LE CHOEUR BEAUSÉJOUR AND TRIO SAMBUCCA present "À la découverte des cultures" at Wilmot United Church on Sunday, April 27th, beginning at 3 p.m. In this season's final Wilmot Concert Series program, the highly successful women's chorus from Moncton, under the direction of Monique Richard, collaborates with Trio Sambucca percussionist Michel Deschênes, guitarist Steven Peacock and flutist Sally Wright in an exploration of various musical traditions from South America, Africa, England, Ireland, India, the United States and Canada. Bassist Monica Lang, percussionist Christian Thibeault, and pianists Tu Quynh Trinh and Dorrie Brown provide additional instrumental support. Tickets at the door are only $10 for adults and $5 for students. 5

6 WILMOT SENIORS: If you think you would enjoy some fun playing games such as 45 s and Scrabble, plan to come out to Seniors on Tuesday, May 6 th at 1:30 in the Parlour. As usual, our afternoon will conclude with a refreshment time, this month provided by Group 2. All seniors and retirees are very welcome! BOWLING OUTING: Sunday May 4th 2 4pm ALL ARE WELCOME! The Faith Formation Committee is sponsoring a bowling outing on the afternoon of Sunday May 4th from 2 4pm at the Nashwaaksis Bowladrome, 301 Main Street, Fredericton North. This event is open to friends and family of Wilmot at the last bowling outing fun was had by the little ones and by our seniors alike! There is NO cost for this event; however, donations to help cover the cost are welcome. This is a fund raiser for the Mission and Service Fund and Wilmot. Stay tune for further information. ROAST BEEF SUPPER AND BAKE SALE at Forest Hill United Church from 4 to 6 pm on Saturday, May 3. Prices are $12 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 12, and preschool free. A Bake Sale will run concurrently. Take outs and celiac meals will be available. 7 LUNCHEON BRIDGE: On Thurs. May 8th, Nashwaaksis United Church UCW, will host a Spring Luncheon Bridge at 12 noon at Nashwaaksis United Church, 46 Main Street. Cost is $40 per table with proceeds going toward church and community outreach initiatives. Please contact Connie at to reserve your table. LOOKING AHEAD SENIORS MYSTERY DAY: Put May 20 th on your calendars for our Annual Mystery Day. Promising to be a great day, interesting and delicious...lots of fun and only 2 stops. $20 per person. You will be chauffeured to and from your home, so no need for a car. If you would like to be a part of this day, please speak to Janett Kieley ( ), Susan Breen ( ) or Brenda Cameron ( ) by May 15th. 8 OUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH CONFIRMATION WEEKEND We will be gathering together on MAY 10 /11 to cover various topics focusing on YouTube videos produced by the Maritime Conference. As well, we have a variety of other exciting activities in which to participate (cooking, a barbeque, a movie, a visit to a Mosque, etc etc etc). On JUNE 8, the youth will be confirmed into the United Church. If a youth that you know would like to join us, please let me know. GRADUATION SUNDAY I am once again in the process of gathering the names of those who will be graduating this year from High School, University or other Post Secondary Programs. Please let me know if you have a member of your family graduating or know of someone. CHILDREN & YOUTH PROGRAMMING Although you may not hear from us from week to week, we are busy. We continue to meet regularly Children, Middle School Youth as well as a Senior Youth Group. We are also connected via e mail but I may have to sign up for FaceBook as well. We will see. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC Discussions have begun so stay tuned! VBS (VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL) Plans are in motion to once again have an exciting VBS program this summer. I will keep you up to date as the plans unfold. SUNDAY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS We are excited about the gradual increase in our numbers and are certainly looking ahead to a busy year again next year. If you or anyone you know would be interested in lending a hand with the Nursery / Sunshine Room / Grades 1 5 as well as a Youth Class, please let me know. 8

10 The Spirit of a Place I could tell you what the website says. It says that the Windsor Youth Centre is Windsor, Ontario s only drop in centre for homeless and at risk youth, and that it serves more than 1,200 meals each month. I could read you the mission statement: The Windsor Youth Centre serves the basic and immediate needs of homeless and atrisk youth in a safe and friendly atmosphere with the aim to foster positive change and growth. That s easy. What is difficult to describe is the sense of community. Providing safety, food, access to other services, and other necessities has been important, but it takes a visit to the centre to see that what is most valuable is the spirit of a place where people don t just learn to care for themselves but also care for one another. Early in 2011, the Faith in Action Committee of Essex Presbytery identified youth homelessness as a priority. Through visiting other agencies and learning from the larger community, we began to understand the problem of hidden homelessness in our community. With a grant from the Essex Presbytery Development Fund and further monies from Mission and Service, plans began for the Windsor Youth Centre. When the centre opened in October 2011, only two or three youth a night came in. However, once word spread throughout the community, the number of youth rose quickly, far exceeding our expectations. The Windsor Youth Centre was able to meet the need because of the generosity of congregations; the hard work, dedication, and compassion of its more than 50 volunteers; and ongoing support from Mission and Service grants. Please continue to give generously so that youth can experience compassionate community.
