Many things He asks us to yield to Him, but in doing this we are but giving up that which hinders us in the heavenward way. 4 Please Welcome Our Guest Speaker Gordon Botting Active Adventist Adults Presents The Northern California Conference Mission Trip to Kenya Today, Sabbath, April 29, 2017 Following potluck please come to hear: 1:30 pm Show and Tell Ministries Today: Health, Community Services, Stewardship Gordon Botting, DrPH, CHES, CFC Gordon Botting is currently the Pacific Union Conference Director of Stewardship as well as the Northern California Conference Director of Health/Community Services/Stewardship. Stewardship is a total lifestyle. It involves our health, time, talents, environment, relationships, spirituality, and finances. As a local church pastor over the years, I learned that about 35 percent of our members don't pay tithe and about 55 percent do not contribute to the local church budget. Sometimes people stop giving deliberately because they are upset about church policies or personalities, but I believe the majority do not contribute because they don't think they can fit it into their budget. There just doesn't seem to be enough money to go around. That's why I developed a practical four-day program to help our members and guests from our communities, better manage their finances. During the last 10 years I've had the privilege of sharing the ABC's of Financial Freedom series with about 7,000 people in more than 300 churches. I help participants develop an action plan for their financial future and show them how to design and stay within a workable budget. More recently we've developed the ABC's of Financial Freedom Leaders Guide with PowerPoint presentation and overheads which enable local church members to lead The ABC's of Financial Freedom series themselves. 6 Dearest Hayward Church Family, Member Janette Hernandez's mother, Zenaida Aguilera, passed away last Sabbath, April 22, 2017, at 1:10 pm. Janette said, "The Lord was very merciful." Janette is currently in Merced with her father. Janette says, I am thankful to each one of you who expressed your concern regarding my mother and was praying for her, my dad who was her caretaker, and myself these many years. I appreciate each one of you! Please keep Janette and her family in your prayers. Oler, Ph.D., HSP, MAC, BCPCC Carlton Oler is returning to the Hayward Adventist Church by popular demand. He is a psychology professor at Gavilan College. Dr. Oler was raised in San Francisco, California, and has been fortunate to amass clinical and teaching experience (e.g., staff clinical psychologist, clinical supervisor, consultant, associate professor of psychology and counseling) in a variety of mental health and academic settings around the United States. For recreation, he runs! (especially 5K races), plays Scrabble, tries to keep up with the latest holistic health advances, and travels. He is a strong believer in the adage, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and therefore strives in his own life to practice a lifestyle (i.e., NEWSSTARTT) that not only prevents disease but maximizes overall (holistic) health.
