Charismatic Prayer Group - This prayer community meets Tuesdays at 7 pm in the Sacred Heart Chapel. FAITH FORMATION YOUTH FAITH FORMATION Religious education classes are held from September through May, for students in the First through Fourth grades on Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:45 pm and for students in the Fifth through Seventh grades on Monday and Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:45 pm. Twelve Confirmation Prep sessions are required for Eighth graders who wish to receive the Sacrament. CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS The process where those inquiring about becoming a Roman Catholic are invited to journey with Church members in sharing their faith, while discerning God s call to conversion. Please contact the Parish Office for further information. PARISH MEMBERSHIP New members need to contact the Parish Office to register for an Evening of Welcome at which time the process of formally becoming a parishioner will be initiated. We receive many requests for certificates of sponsorship for Baptism and Confirmation. Certificates can only be given to registered members of the parish who actively practice their faith. Members are those who regularly attend Mass and participate in and support the life of the Church. SACRAMENTS BAPTISM The Rite of Baptism is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month following the 11:00 am Mass and the third Sunday of the month at the 11:00 am liturgy, except during Lent. Parents must attend an obligatory preparation session prior to the child s birth. Arrangements for a Baptismal date are made at that session. MATRIMONY In accordance with Diocesan policy, couples wishing to be married at OLL must participate in a one-year preparation program, which includes FOCCUS, Pre-Cana, God s Plan for a Faith- Filled Marriage, and required paperwork. Please confirm the date with the Church prior to making other plans. Marriages take place on Fridays and Saturdays no Sunday weddings. And it takes a lot for me to be speechless, as you probably know. I am still trying to process what Pope Francis said, what he did and how we, as a parish, can follow his direction. The best thing of all for me was the Family Luncheon and Viewing of the Papal Mass. 125 individuals of all ages attended and were offered a superb buffet in a welcoming family fashion. I would like to thank the leadership of the Polish American Club, Aurora Gilliam and her catering staff, the many confirmation candidates that set up and served the meal, Colalillo s Shop Rite and Readington Farms for their generous assistance, the Satellite Office volunteers and the parish staff who all made the event wonderful. The excitement of the week did not end as 64 young adults of our parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday morning. As we move forward with the love and the excitement of the Holy Father I encourage you to look back on this past week. What moments touched you, what words inspired you, what will you do to bring Pope Francis mission to this area? It is important to remember the homework our Holy Father gave the students in Harlem to pray for him. Do this and I am sure that you will receive benefits far beyond your wildest dreams. PAGE 4

5 FROM THE TOWNSHIP OF READINGTON Dear Our Lady of Lourdes Parish; We want to express our appreciation for the school supplies that the Congregation donated to our Backpack Program. This year eighty five local children were provided with backpacks and brand new school supplies. We hope that this support enables students to take advantage of the educational opportunities available to them and to achieve the goal of obtaining a good education. Your efforts have made it possible for our kids to begin the new school year filled with excitement and prepared with the tools they need to be successful. This Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 pm in Deacon Chuck and Fr. Len will lead a discussion on the many talks and homilies Pope Francis presented while in Cuba and the U.S. We will look at the common themes, his calls to action, and how we as a parish can respond. Copies of his talks and homilies can be found on the Parish Website or Office. PROTECTING GOD S CHILDREN ~ VIRTUS TRAINING According to Diocesan policy, all employees and volunteers 18 years and older who work with children on a regular basis MUST attend a mandatory training. Liz Systo, Parish Catechetical Leader, is offering a training on Saturday, October 10 at 9:00 am in the Old Church Hall. This requirement applies to, but is not limited to, Parents, Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Catechists, Boy/Girl Scout Leaders, Cheerleader Coaches, Youth Ministry Leaders, Ushers, and any other volunteers who come in contact with children. You are required to be on time for this training and cannot leave early. Late arrivals will not be admitted. This session lasts three hours. If you have never attended a Protecting God s Children/Virtus Training session, you must attend or forfeit your ability to work with children in our Parish or Diocese. Registration is required to attend: *Log on to on Offices - Child and Youth Protection, *View training sessions, *Start registration. Those attending the session will receive a Virtus Certificate. It is a one time requirement. If you have any questions, contact Liz at x 17. NUTS THE NEW NORMAL! SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18 FROM 2:00 TO 3:30 PM IN THE CHURCH What use to be normal in our everyday lives is now "NUTS". To be a follower of Jesus to live a moral life, to tell the truth... to want to live the life that God wants for us has become nuts in todays day and age. Becoming who God wants us to be maybe one of the nuttiest things we can strive for. Come to this retreat and find out that their are a lot of NUTS out there! Colleen Kelly-Rayner uses her quick wit, high-energy, real-life experiences, and knowledge of the faith to create an event that you will never forget. For additional information, contact David Laggini at FLU CLINIC TODAY FROM 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM IN COMMUNITY HALL 2015 BISHOP S ANNUAL APPEAL ~ GRACE, MERCY & PEACE Each year in our diocese, over 2,500 eighth grade and high school students participate in the Because I m Worth It event sponsored by the Office of Respect for Life. Busloads of energetic youth gather to hear renowned speaker Pam Stenzel s chastity presentation. In a rally-like atmosphere, Stenzel captivates her audience with the serious physical, medical, and emotional repercussions of sex outside of marriage. It is very powerful and, in many cases, life-changing. Your gift to the Bishop s Annual Appeal helps to underwrite the cost of the chastity education outreach to our youth. PAGE 6
