What I on earth have done and taught Guide all your life and teaching; So shall the kingdom s work be wrought And honored in your preaching. But watch lest foes with base alloy The heav nly treasure should destroy; This final word I leave you These words are from Martin Luther s great hymn Dear Christians, One and All, Rejoice, come to us at a timely period in the Church year and in history in general. We are in uneasy times, worried about politics, worried about money, worried about identity, worried about just about everything. It seems like every time you turn on the television it is full of nothing but bad news. But, as Christians, we are able to boldly proclaim Jesus Christ and Him crucified to all corners of the world. The world is going to attack us for our beliefs, and that s okay. St. Peter writes in his first epistle: Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share in Christ s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. The world is hostile to this message. Hostile to what we have to say, hostile to Christ. But the church will continue to do what the church has always done. It will not be silenced, it will not let the message of the salvation be silenced. May God grant all the strength to confess the Gospel. It has been a busy few months for your pastor, but I feel they have been fruitful. Many of us have broken bread together, we have shared laughs, and shed tears. We have rejoiced together and felt pain together. I continue to be humbled by the generosity St. Peter. I continue to be encouraged in our various conversations. I continue to be made a pastor by each and every one of you. Seminary taught me what I need to know to be a pastor, but the people of St. Peter are the ones making me into a pastor, and that is something I would not change for anything in the world. I pray that the following months continue to be fruitful for St. Peter, and I look forward to serving you. Thank you all for making St. Peter such a wonderful place. Casey and I could not be happier to be invited into your family. There is a lot of love at St. Peter and it is a blessing to be a part of it. +Soli Deo Gloria+

We are so excited to see so many participating in these classes. ALTAR GUILD: New schedules have been printed and are available in the Narthex. BIBLE STUDY: On Wednesday mornings at 10am, Pastor will be hosting a Bible Study for the upcoming Sunday lessons. We will look at the Introit, Old Testament, Epistle and Gospel, and dive into how these stories connect! Please join us in the church basement if you are available; the coffee will be hot! CHURCH DINNER UPDATE: Thank you to all who donated items and gave their time to work at the dinner- we appreciate you all so much. You helped accomplish the best turnout in several years! We served 558 meals with the church dinner proceeds to date at $6, THE 2018 CHRISTMAS COMMITTEE will meet on November 18 th, after the church service in the Narthex. 5 Marie The first time that I called Marie Wietfeldt to set up a time for an interview, she answered on her cell phone and said that she was playing cards at Flatrock, could I call back later? Of course I could. When I arrived for the interview, she was standing outside on a chilly day, talking to a neighbor that she has known since childhood. You see, Marie will tell you how thankful that she is for all of the kindnesses shown to her, and she is, but she has also spent a lifetime being that same type of person to others. Marie was born at home on May 27, 1924, to Victor and Minnie Bultemeier. This home was located on the corner of Barkley and Boerger Road. She was the older of two children, as her brother, Carl, was born three years later. Marie was baptized at St. John Bingen and attended grade school there. At that time, the grade school was located where the grove of trees now stands across from Wyneken Lutheran School. Marie and Carl walked the two miles to school, until Marie was an 8th grader and they bought a bicycle. Then Marie pedalled to school, and Carl rode on the handlebars. Marie said that there were 13 in her confirmation class, and that she was confirmed in German. To this day, she can speak Low German and read High German. Marie graduated from the 8th grade at St. John, then began to work outside the home. She later attained her GED, just because she wanted to. Sadly, Marie s mother passed away when Marie was 15 years old. Her father then sold the farm and moved to town in Hoagland. Marie worked a short time at Pollock Brothers Clothing factory, then switched to helping families with new babies, helping with housework, etc. When Marie was 21, her father passed away, so she and her brother, Carl were on their own. She described those years as being poor as church mice, but they were able to make ends meet. Marie was introduced to her future husband, Marvin Wietfeldt, by friends in While dating and early in their married life, they often square danced and played cards. They eventually became members of the Hoagland Country Club. When they were married on February 10, 1945, Marie s brother Carl gave her away. She had handwritten her invitations on yellow notebook paper. On the day they were married, the snow was so deep that they had to roll the snow to make room for parking at Marvin s parents home, where the reception was held. Temperatures were way below zero. In order to help with the reception, all of Marie s aunts and uncles brought a cake. Marvin and Marie moved into their home on Boerger Road where they spent their married life. Marvin farmed 80 acres and also worked 30 years at Harvester. Marvin and Marie both milked cows at home for several years. They are the parents of four children: Roger (deceased), Daniel,

6 Carolyn, and Darlene. Marie has 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. As a result of this marriage, St. Peter gained Marie as a member. She spent many years as a member of the choir, and also an active member of the Ladies Aid. She especially loved quilting with the Ladies Aid. Three years ago Marie moved to a lovely apartment in Hoagland. She knows almost all of her neighbors and has even known some of them since childhood, as many of them are Lutheran. Her grandson, Luke, and his wife moved into the farmhouse that she and Marvin called home for many years, so that home has stayed in the family. When asked about vacations, Marie said that she and Marvin took trips out west, and also took a trip to Germany to visit relatives. With her German background, Marie said that Silent Night is a favorite Christmas hymn and she enjoys hearing it sung in German. She also likes the hymn Tired I Am, I Go to Rest. I asked Marie if she knew her confirmation verse. She could not only recite the entire verse, but also where it is found. I was impressed! It was fun to interview Marie. She is very proud of her family, and appreciative of all of the kindnesses shown to her. We want to thank her for all that she has done for St. Peter congregation. Article submitted by Kris Bischoff
