February 1, 2015 Announcements Today s Service and Fellowship Today we welcome Pastor Jon Young, interim pastor at Neland Ave. CRC in Grand Rapids. May God bless Pastor Jon and each of us through this time of worship and through His Word. Upcoming Services and Fellowship Feb 4 7PM Congregational Meeting Feb 8 10AM Nomination Sunday. Pastor John Wildeboer, from Rehoboth CRC in Bowmanwille, will lead worship. We will also celebrate communion. Feb 15 10AM Pastor Nick Overduin, our Specialized Transitional Minister, will lead us in worship. Feb 22 10AM Lent #1 Pastor Heidi De Jonge will lead worship. Announcements Prayers of God s People As a church family we celebrate the following birthdays this week: John R. (Feb.2), Maria B. (Feb.4), Gerda D. (Feb.7), and Ryan E. (Feb.7). Pray for members and friends struggling with various health concerns, treatments or healing through recent surgeries: Leo B. (Maria s son), Aartje H., Wilma & Paul K., Winda V., Hans V. (Tom & Maria s son), Jenny T. and her mother. Please keep Maria B. and her daughter Betty in prayer. Something is rapidly affecting Betty's memory and ability to cope. They are still trying to determine the actual cause. We pray for those confined to their homes or nursing homes: Aart E., Johanna M., Hans S. and Ina V. *** For those who have a prayer request, please contact a member of the Prayer team or an Elder. 2 First s News & Activities Congregational Meeting Council invites the congregation to a Congregational meeting on Wednesday February 4 at 7pm. An agenda and other documents have been ed or put into your mail boxes. Please bring a copy to the meeting. Council has also included a copy of the PAR (Pre Authorized Remittance) letter in the package and asks you to consider using this easy method of making your monthly budget contributions. The highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be spending some time with Pastor Overduin 2015 Council Nominations This week you have received a letter from Council explaining the process that we plan to follow to seek nominations for Council and the timeline for Nomination Sunday as well as the remaining dates in the schedule. Please be prepared to submit your suggestions for suitable candidates in a short meeting after the service next Sunday - February 8. This year we need to elect one Elder and one Deacon since Paul V. and John V. are ending their 3 year terms of office. A Visual Arts Opportunity: Worship Committee is inviting volunteers to be part of a team to decorate the sanctuary at the various liturgical seasons of the church calendar year. If decorating is something you like to do, but aren't sure, why not start out with a small project for Easter. Find a friend who likes this sort of thing and do it together! Please speak to Rob, Nancy, Erica, Elly, or Didy for more details on getting involved. Urgent - Accommodations Needed! William & Melissa M. need to find a new apartment by the end of February. If you have an apartment to lease or know anyone who does, please contact the church office. Flower Fund: Money collected from the flower fund was used to purchase flowers for Leo B., Ina V., Hans S. and Johanna M. If you would like to contribute, the flower fund boxes are located by the exit doors of the sanctuary. One box is actually on the door at the front of the sanctuary. Thank you for your generosity and support for this important ministry. Attention Youth! Today, February 1, 2015 Quinte League Afternoon of Fun There will be no youth service this evening but there will be an afternoon of activities/games (tobogganing, skating, games, fire) between 1:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon at Steve & Heather Voskamp s place (239 Morningstar Road, Trenton). Snacks and drinks will be provided. If you need further information, please contact Julie Smit. (bryce.julie.smit@gmail.com) or For Your Information: The members of the Contact Circle have decided to fold their group after many years of Bible Study and social times. We thank God for His constant care and blessings and are sure He will continue to bless each one of us as we serve Him in other ways. 55 Plus Group: Our next meeting will be on Tuesday Feb.10 at 2 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall. We plan to have a fun afternoon celebrating Valentines Day with a special cake to have with coffee, tea and punch. Please look up some Valentine poetry or story for our entertainment, or perhaps a tale of a special Valentine's Day you experienced yourself. Or anything else to read. ALSO, please bring a gift of about $2 or $3 (gift wrapped) for a game we'll be playing. See you on the 10th!! Still Needed: Soup Donations for Geneva House Soup Suppers We have hungry University students who come every week to enjoy a nice home cooked meal of soup and buns and baked goods at Geneva House. This ministry is a wonderful way for students to find Christian community, a

3 place to belong, join Bible studies, meet new friends and feel loved. If you are able to make a large pot of soup or baking, please contact Julia at jmkooy@gmail.com or You can drop off the soup or we can pick it up. Classical & Denominational Alpha Marriage Course The Alpha Marriage Course has been postponed until April 12, If you have any questions, please contact garyncorina@bell.net or or call the Small Group Bible Study Leaders and Coffee Break Leaders Training: Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Frankford Community CRC, 9:00am - 1:00pm. The training will focus on how to lead Bible discovery, in small groups, with an evangelistic purpose. This training will benefit new leaders, seasoned leaders, and anyone interested in this kind of Bible study. Cost is $35. Registration is required; lunch is included. If you are planning on entering seminary studies in this upcoming school year in preparation to serve as a Minister of the Word in the CRC, we want to walk alongside you! Join other cyclists this summer for a 6-day ride in Ontario or a 10-day ride in Alberta, and raise money for the fight against poverty. Proceeds will fund ministry by World Renew, Partners Worldwide, International Justice Mission, and local poverty initiatives in communities along the route. KCS is pleased to offer its Kindergarten Readiness Program for children turning 4 or 5 in Through engaging devotions, arts and crafts, worship, games and stories, your child will be challenged to begin an exciting and life-long journey of reading and writing. Friday mornings for four weeks starting April 10, from 9:00 to 11:30. Cost for KCS families is $25. Max 12 students. I am looking for either an apartment to rent or simply a room and board situation, and would definitely be interested to room and board with a family with young children and provide childcare as part of the deal. I have been part of a CRC in my hometown of Hamilton, I presently attend Bethel Church in Kingston, and I have also been volunteering at Westside CRC's 'Little Lamb's' program for the

The Marvelous, Maddening, Messy Years: Exploring What Makes Teenagers Tick! Sunday, February 8 th, 2015 at Bethel Church Kingston from 2-4pm This is a workshop for parents of tweens and teens, youth workers and mentors. Speaker: Marv Penner will be covering these three things in his new topic Feb 8th: 1. The important role of non-parental adults in the developmental journey of teenager. 2. Why there is often so much conflict between parents and teenagers. 3. How kids respond to painful circumstances, hurt and disappointment in their lives. Through the Coldest Night of the Year annual walk, nightlight is raising money to help our Kingston and Belleville locations. We will be walking (2 km, 5 km or 10 km). nightlight is a ministry that reaches out to the poor and the poor in spirit in our cities. We are an evening drop-in centre for adults and offer refreshments and a place to come in for those who are disconnected or have no connections. Connecting can be as simple as playing a board game, sharing a puzzle or having someone to talk with on a regular basis. We also connect people to other social services in the city.
