3 Page 4 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time CCD Registration CCD registration is taking place Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the month ofaugust from 2:00pm to 5:30 pm in the rectory or call for an appointment. RCIA Instructions To Be Offered at St. Florian A big thank you to all who took part in the "To Teach Who Christ Is" Campaign. We appreciate your generosity. Even though it's still warm out, winter is coming and we have to start thinking about a new boiler. The Archdiocese credits us every month with 60% of your current payments. Some people are delinquent in their payments which slows down our goal. We really can't move forward until we receive most of the funds for the boiler. If you have any questions about your payments, please call the Archdiocese at Yours in Christ, Becoming a Catholic Today The media continues to report stories ofhow the Christian religion is experiencing a decrease in the numbers in their membership. It is worth noting that the Catholic Church in the United States gains more new members every year than any other religion. Last year, in the Archdiocese of Chicago alone, 507 catechumens were received into the Church at Easter Vigils. An additional 1063 adults completed the sacraments of initiation (Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation) during the Easter season. What is RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation ofadults is a program by which the Catholic Church welcomes new members into its communal life. The RCIA program is a living experience of the church, and NOT just a series of classes to teach you about Christianity. There are discussions about the facts of the faith. These sessions are only one part of the experience of living the faith. This program allows you to learn and share with others who are on the same journey -- living the faith with members of the Church. Baptized Catholics who have not received the sacraments are also invited to attend these sessions as well as anyone who would like to know more about the Catholic faith. Little Company of Mary Hospital, Evergreen Park, offers two support programs for those grieving the loss of a loved one through death. For Adults: LIVING WHEN A LOVED ONE HAS DIED Six consecutive Wednesdays, beginning September 28, 2016 from 6:30 pm. to 8:30 pm. Support Groups formed specific to loss. Registration is required. For Children: THE HEART CONNECTION Eight Consecutive Mondays, beginning September 19, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The program is for children ages 5 to 18 years old who have lost a loved one. Early registration is required. For further information or registration please call the Pastoral Care Department, at or Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry at St. Florian church is in need of volunteers to help give out food to our neighbors in need. The pantry distribution takes place once a month over the course of two days: Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday the Greater Chicago Food Depository truck arrives to deliver the food and volunteers are needed to unload the truck and pack backs. On Wednesday the actual pantry distribution takes place and volunteers pass out food to the people of our community.
