3 FROM OUR PASTOR DR. ADRIAN ROGERS, former pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church who has gone to be with the Lord now, was quoted as saying concerning revival: The church is desperately in need of revival. The situation is desperate, but the saints are nonchalant. We don t have to persuade God to send revival but permit Him to do so. He wants to revive His people. THESE ARE STRONG WORDS FROM ONE OF THE GREAT LEADERS of our faith during his years of ministry. You might sum up what he said this way: God s desire and our willingness. God s desire is to revive His people. He wants to do a fresh work in our lives. So the question is not does God want to send revival? The question is are we willing for God to send revival? Or, are we as Dr. Rogers suggests nonchalant saints? Each of us will answer that question in our own hearts and lives. I TRUST THAT YOU ARE PREPARING YOURSELF for that which God wants to do in your life. I hope that you are praying for personal revival. I pray that you are allowing God to reveal the things in your life now that He wants to address. I hope that you are able to attend some of the prayer meetings that are being held each day of the week except Saturday leading up to the revival summit. I hope that you have already cleared your calendar so that you can be present for each service. For true revival to come as we are praying, we need to sacrifice in some ways. One way is through our time. God demands our time. It takes time for God to do all that He wants to do in our midst. To miss a service is a guarantee to miss a blessing from God that can never be recovered. I CANNOT ADEQUATELY EXPRESS HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS Revival Summit. I believe in my heart that as a result of the time we spend together with God in these days that I will never be the same. Furthermore, I don t believe that OTBC will ever be the same either. I believe God is prepared to do some life-transforming works in our lives and in the life of this church. Quite honestly, I can t wait! I HOPE YOU ARE APPROACHING THE REVIVAL SUMMIT with much anticipation and expectation too. Remember this Revival Summit is for the whole family. There are special camps for children and ministry for students as well as all adults. Bring the whole family to experience all that God wants to do in your life and the life of your family. God is prepared to do great things. Are you and I willing to receive the great things that He wants to do? Let s approach this Revival Summit with the heart of Paul s prayer in Ephesians 3: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according To his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Eph. 3:20-21) GOD IS PREPARED TO DO IMMEASURABLY MORE THAN WE CAN ASK OR imagine. Let s pray together, Lord Jesus do it all in my life and in our church! Thank you. Amen. See you on Sunday and throughout the month of September as we meet together for God s Revival Summit at OTBC! Extending our Reach..... 6 On the Mark for Missions It s easy to lose count when God s at work. Last month, I included a report of God s activity through International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries living in Asia. I shared how a couple from a Muslim country where it is illegal to convert to Christ found our missionaries and their national partner. The couple asked how they could follow Jesus. That was Mr. 3 and Mrs. 4 who arrived after Mr. 1 and Mr. 2, both of whom are new believers who returned home as witnesses for Christ. Let me continue the story. Recently, Mr. 5 from this same Islamic country showed up in the city where our missionaries work. How these people find the missionaries and the church is a miracle in itself! Mr. 5 wanted to know how to follow Jesus. So, the national pastor and missionary together led this man to salvation. When he arrived for his baptism the following Sunday, he brought with him a friend from his homeland, Mr. 6. Mr. 6 was not ready to commit his life to Christ this is a HUGE decision given the circumstances he would return to in his country. But, he watched the baptism. And, he attended the church s worship celebration. At the conclusion he said, Can I come back next week to learn more about following Jesus? Of course he could return and you can join the prayers offered to God that Mr. 6 will become His son as well. Now, one more bit of information. In the service that day, Mr. 7 and Mrs. 8 showed up for the first time. They are already believers who have been expelled from this same Muslim country because they have chosen to follow Jesus. And, Mr. 7 speaks multiple languages, including almost perfect English. So, he can translate for future visitors God leads to this city so they can find the Savior they so desperately seek! What an awesome God we serve! I share this with you for two reasons: to increase your confidence in our God s ability to transform lives through our witness; and, to encourage you to pray for unreached people groups (UPGs) around the world. Remember there are helpful resources for this ministry on the yellow bulletin board beside the Media Center. Now, let me share with you some other things God is doing through our Acts One 8 Challenge partners locally to globally. Old Town Medical Mission: Dozens of people are experiencing the love of Christ each month through the loving attention and quality medical care they receive from our Medical Mission. Recently, I was in a local store when a man came hobbling over to me. Mister, mister, he called out. I saw you at the church clinic the other day. Thank ya ll so much for what you are doing there; it means a lot to me. He explained he was grateful for both the great medical care he received and the message of God s love which he heard. In mid-august, I met a man I ll call Mr. A at the medical mission. He was captured by the Gospel presentation. Though hesitant to receive Christ, he wanted to talk more next clinic. So, I told him we would talk later and that in the meantime, I would pray for his heart to be open to the Gospel. So, join me in praying Mr. A into God s family. Open Arms Refugee Ministry: Tim and Jody Cross meet needs for refugees from Myanmar, Bhutan and Iraq who have recently been resettled in our city as political refugees. The Crosses work to teach the people how to live in America. And, they work to teach members of these UPGs about Jesus. Already this year, about a dozen of these men, women and students have come to faith in Christ and been baptized. Christmas Outreach Project (COP), Logan, WV: Pastor Godby of First Baptist McConnell, WV wrote recently to thank us for our support (financial and physical) of their annual COP. He shared that, in addition to those who came to Christ already, two ladies served at COP last year gave their lives to Jesus in August! So, the fruit continues to flourish. By the way, we are planning to participate again this year; so, check out the opportunity described elsewhere in the newsletter. Families on Mission (FoM), Shelby County, AL: Recently, my family had the privilege of serving with 30 other families sharing Christ in Alabama s fastest growing county. We worked with Families on Mission, a ministry of the North American Mission Board. Throughout the week, more than 50 people came to Christ for salvation. One small, local church which had given up on their future usefulness for Christ s Kingdom has been revitalized. With the help of two FoM families, this church conducted their first Vacation Bible School in more than a decade. This allowed the church to reach 33 children and their families with God s love. Two of these children committed their lives to Christ as Savior. Pastor John, Church Planter, Bihar, India: Pastor John serves the people of our adopted village of Hasanpura. There we have drilled a water well, given health care and education for the residents, and continue to support the church financially (Bibles, hymnals, church planter support). Pastor John is also actively starting churches in other villages. In one village, a man named Mala Das and his four brothers chose to follow Christ. Now, through these men, 7 new churches have been planted and nearly 100 new believers have been baptized! Yes, it s easy to lose count when God s at work. Yet, it is easy to count the cost of God s activity. It is your prayers, participation and financial support for the Acts One 8 Challenge Offering help make these exciting reports possible. Thank you, church, for your faithfulness to pray, give and go to make Jesus known among people locally to globally. God is blessing our obedience. Praise His Name! Excited to lose count, Pastor Mark Christmas Outreach Project - Logan, West Virginia December (Estimated Cost: $ ) Join the fun. Experience the joy. Share Christmas. Plan to serve Christ in the Christmas Outreach Project in Logan, WV, sponsored by one of our Judea partners First Baptist Church, McConnell, WV. Last year s team had a great experience in giving out Christmas gifts to 150 families and in sharing the Good News of Christmas. Several people committed their lives to Christ last year; and, the spiritual fruit continues. We plan to provide bicycles for some of the children; so, keep your ears out for the details. If you d like to know more about this opportunity, ask Pastor Mark.
