1 THE SPIRE News of New Haven United Methodist Church Gracious Acceptance.....Grateful Service S. New Haven Ave., Tulsa, OK VOLUME XXIII Number 19 May 17, 2013 Cindy s Chalkboard "Motherism's" for you to enjoy on during this week after the celebration on Mother's Day: "God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers." - Jewish proverb "The sweetest sounds to mortals given are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven." - William Goldsmith Brown "The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom." - Henry Ward Beecher "A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie." - Tenneva Jordan "When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child." - Sophia Loren "Only mothers can think of the future-because they give birth to it in their children." - Maxim Gorky "A mother understands what a child does not say." - Jewish proverb "Most mothers are instinctive philosophers." - Harriet Beecher Stowe "A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary." - Dorothy Canfield Fisher "Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love." - Mildred B. Vermont "A Mother's love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible." -Marion C. Garretty "Mother - that was the bank where we deposited all our hurts and worries." - T. DeWitt Talmage "There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it." - Chinese Proverb "Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children." - Brandon Lee "There was never a great man who had not a great mother -- it is hardly an exaggeration." - Olive Schreiner

4 BAPTISM! Henry David Cauthon, shown here with his proud parents, Allyson and Jeff Cauthon, was baptized on Mother s Day Sunday in the early worship service. Henry turned one year old on May 8th. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD MISSION JOURNEY TEAM EXPERIENCING GOD IN NEW WAYS AT MANNFORD This Saturday, May 18th, will be our first Saturday to serve a family in Mannford by putting skirting around their trailer home, cleaning up, and hanging a door. Eight of us will meet at New Haven at 7am and return around 5:30 pm. We don t know yet what our task will be on Saturday, May 25, but we must always remember to be flexible! The tasks, because of the importance of the need, might change a couple of days before we go to Mannford. We now have 13 New Haven family members who will serve on the 25th. Please pray for us, your teams, as we prepare to be in fellowship with the families and with each other through Jesus Christ. God s Speed, Adriaan A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible - Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter. Little Rick was excited about the task - but he just couldn't remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know. ~ Our own New Haven children will present Psalm 23 in worship on May 19th! Come, be blessed!

June 3-7, 9am 12pm New Haven United Methodist Church wordpress/ FROM DAVID S DESK... Good day, It is almost summer time and that means school is almost over! There has been a lot of studying and preparing for end of the year tests and events for our youth but from what I have heard our crew are all doing great in class and will be getting good grades this year! This coming Sunday is graduation Sunday for New Haven, the youth department is both happy and sad to see Sami graduating, we are sad she will be leaving us but very happy for her achievement. With the end of school coming we are also looking to start up our youth room facelift project. We still have many needs for that project, so if you feel drawn to help please let David know and he can help to match you with one of the many projects, our first goal is to repaint the room and the back stair. This coming week we have Life Skills class being taught by Christopher Smith, so come out and learn something fun with us! Camp Schedule for youth: Help with VBS- June 3-7 Youth Force- June Colorado Trek- June Footprints and VBS Do you like to have fun while learning simple motions to music? If so, please come to Footprints in the sanctuary on Sunday at 3:30. We are going to take it easy (no lifting, throwing people, etc ha!) for the next three weeks by learning the motions to our Vacation Bible School songs. Deena wouldn t be disappointed if you sang along, as well! Those who attend practice can be music helpers at VBS June 3 through 7. Children, youth and adults are all welcome. Just wear comfortable clothes/shoes and bring your energy, so we can get to work! Bithell Farm berries are once again for sale!!! Order forms are in the lobby now. This is the BEST frozen fruit you will ever eat! Yum-yum! They are no longer offering seafood, but the fruit more than makes up for that!!!
