1 BISHOP SEBASTIAN COUNCIL NO March 2018 Volume 57, Issue 9 KNIGHTS REPORTER Grand Knight s Report - STEVE RADZIMINSKI At the last business meeting (February 19), a nominating committee consisting of the Trustees was named for the upcoming elections. The elections will be held on May 21, It is requested that names be submitted to the committee by April 2, so that the names can be read at the next meetings and also published in the May, 2018 Knights Reporter. Reminder: all offices are open, but you must be a Third Degree Knight. It has also been noted that the Council has had nine brothers take the third degree this year. These new third degree brothers are the basis for the future success of the Council. Help them by actively participating in the upcoming events, Communion Breakfast, Marigold Project, Living Rosary just to name a few. Family Activity events are being planned for the summer. Finally, please keep recruiting, and keep praying for the sick and deceased. God Bless! Some of these make our lives more complicated, but many of these choices are created with our satisfaction in mind. At the Knights of Columbus, every product we offer has been designed solely for the benefit of our members and their families. When I present an option to you, it s because a team of experts has discussed it at length to be certain it serves your best interest. We have a few options on how you can provide and pay for the whole life coverage that your family needs. Many whole life policies call for premiums to be paid for your entire life or to age 100. But we also offer permanent life coverage with guaranteed cash values (and the potential to earn dividends, which are not guaranteed) through policies that offer a limited period of premium payments. If you would like to help, please contact the Church Activities Director for St. Ursula Parish Letter of Appreciation from Seminarian Kenneth Lukong Dear Knights, It is with deep joy and thankfulness that I script these words of gratitude to you from the bottom of my heart. Accept greetings and best wishes from the enigmatic building of St Mary s Seminary in Roland Park. I hope you are all doing well and the Knights Bishop Sebastian Council. I wish to express my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to each individual member for the sacrifices you make to the smooth functioning of the group and most importantly for the support I received from your council. The funds have really been helpful to me as I have been able to do a number of things, get some personal stuffs and books for myself. I remain indebted to you all and be rest-assured of my continual prayers for the council and your individual families. Here is a little note about myself so that you can know something about my life to this point. I am called Kenneth Lukong. I come from Cameroon in West Africa. I was born on the 2 nd of May
4 I am the last in the family of Seven, six boys and one girl. After my elementary school, I went to seminary when I was twelve years old, precisely in the academic year of 2004/2005. Since then, I have been a seminarian to this moment. After college and high school seminary, I had a year of spiritual formation in 2011 from where I proceeded to do a three-year program in philosophy in St Thomas Aquinas Seminary, Cameroon, Bambui. I had a pastoral year in Cameroon during the academic year 2015/2016. At the end of this year, my diocese, Kumbo, entered into partnership with the Archdiocese of Baltimore and I was sent as a pioneer to this program. The program states that after my ordination, I have five years of active service in the Archdiocese of Baltimore upon which I will make a decision either to stay and be incardinated fully or to go back to Cameroon. In these years of discernment, I find much joy in my endeavor to becoming a priest and continually look forward to being a servant in the Lord s vineyard. So far, I remain grateful to God for this missionary journey he has sent me to and back here at saint Mary s and the archdiocese as a whole, it has been a loving experience. I remain grateful to the knights of Bishop Sebastian Council for your support and prayers, and I look forward to coming to some of the council meetings so that I can personally greet and see all of you. Thanks for choosing me for this sponsorship and may God replenish this awesome generosity of yours. Sincerely yours Kenneth Lukong Catholic Men s Fellowship (CMF) We invite you to join other Catholic Men for a spiritual growth opportunity. We meet at the St. Ursula Parish Spiritual Center on the first Saturday of the month starting at 7:15 a.m. and ending at 9:30 a.m. Next meetings: Saturday, March 3, 2018 Saturday, April 7, th Annual CMF Conference One Day Lenten Retreat March 10, 2018 Locations: South Location (Main Location) St. Philip Neri Catholic Church 6405 S Orchard Rd, Linthicum Heights, MD North Location (Satellite Location streamed LIVE) St. Mary Magdalen Mission of St. Margaret Parish 141 N Hickory Ave, Bel Air, MD Theme: Hail, Holy Queen! 5 Eucharistic Adoration during Lent During Lent, please consider spending time with Jesus in the Eucharist. God Bless. 3 rd Quarter report Coordination of parking lot for 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Ursula Parish on Christmas Eve (12/24/2017) On December 24, 2017, members of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Sebastian Council # 5058 took on the task to coordinate the parking of cars for attendees of the 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Ursula Parish in Parkville, MD. The Pastor, Fr. Steve Hook, requested our Council to take on this task due to the issues dealing with congestion of cars due to the large volume of this Mass. This request was a follow-up from the Round Table meeting that was held in March Fr. Steve expressed to our Council about the integrity of a promise; If your Council states they will lead and/or help with a task, do it. This message resonated with the attendees from our Council. Fr. Steve wanted coordination only before the Mass start time of 4:00 p.m. Once Mass started, it was the decision of the Lead Coordinator to continue this task afterwards. Therefore, PGK Michael Colbourne, volunteered to be the lead coordinator for this task. Since this was the first time Michael has been involved with this type of task, he requested help from the Council members. Thankfully, the following members were able to be present to help: District Deputy (DD), Past Grand Knight (PGK) Rick Callender Former District Deputy (FDD), PGK Raphael Cilento Franco Crispi (New Knight) District Warden (DW), PGK William Keenan Tyler Stone (New Knight) Our DW and PGK, William Keenan, provided the flashlights, vests with the Knights of Columbus logo, and two-way hand radios (walkie-talkies). FDD and PGK, Raphael Cilento, provided the LOT FULL signs. 5
6 Preparations started at 2:30 p.m. Michael spoke to a neighbor in the cul-de-sac on Wilson Avenue, which can be entered by a driveway behind the Parish. The neighbor politely requested not to encourage the option to park on Wilson Avenue. In past years, the congestion on Wilson Avenue for Christmas Eve Masses was irritating the neighbors, resulting in complaints sent to the Parish Office. Michael assured the neighbor our Council members will do our best to comply with this request. The aforementioned members received their vests and tested the two-way radios. William provided instructions on the proper procedure to speak and receive messages. We started with the front section of the parking closest to Harford Road, then gradually moved towards the back end of the parking lot. We reserved a spot in front for the celebrant of the Mass, Fr. Stephen Gosnell, due to issues with his knees, which causes mobility issues. With the cooperation of the members and the attendees of the Mass, no issues were reported. This effort went smoother than expected. A lesson learned about the value of quality versus quantity of volunteers. It was a privilege for our Council to help support St. Ursula Parish. God Bless the Knights of Columbus. God Bless us all. DW, PGK William Keenan provided the vests Part of band of brothers helping out: (Left to Right) DD Rick Callender; Franco Crispi; DW, PGK William Keenan Links to our other affiliated church bulletins: St. Isaac Jogues St. Thomas More St Clare

15 (Continued from page 1) Fraternal Benefits Cont. First, we offer 10 Pay Life and 20 Pay Life. Consider paying premiums for 10 or 20 years, and never having to pay for the coverage again. The plan is paid up and no more premiums are due. The plan stays in force, the death benefit remains intact and the guaranteed cash value continues to grow. A plan with similar benefits is Life Paid Up at 65. The difference over 10 or 20 Pay Life plans is that this permanent product requires you to pay premiums until age 65. Then, premiums stop (just in time for retirement), but the plan remains in force. Finally, the ultimate in limited pay is our Single Premium Life product. Imagine buying life insurance permanent life insurance and only paying one single premium? It s possible.
