8 What Matters to Me and Why David Kelley Wednesday, October 11 12:00-1:00 pm CIRCLE Common Room Old Union, 3rd floor The What Matters to Me and Why series encourages reflection within the Stanford community on matters of personal values, beliefs, and motivations in order to better understand the lives and inspirations of those who shape the University. The first talk of this year's series features David Kelley. As Stanford's Donald W. Whittier Professor in Mechanical Engineering, Kelley is the Academic Director of both the degree-granting undergraduate and graduate programs in design within the School of Engineering, and has been a professor in the program for more than 35 years. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and earned his master's degree from Stanford University in Engineering/Product Design. Professor Kelley is the founder and chairman of the global design and innovation company, IDEO. He also founded Stanford's Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, known as the d.school.
