Opening Hymn [278] Alleluia, sing to Jesus! his the sceptre, his the throne: Alleluia! his the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark the songs of peaceful Sion thunder like a mighty flood: Jesus out of every nation hath redeemed us by his blood. Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now: Alleluia! he is near us; faith believes, nor questions how. Though the cloud from sight received him when the forty days were o er, shall our hearts forget his promise, 'I am with you evermore'? Alleluia! bread of angels, thou on earth our food, our stay: Alleluia! here the sinful flee to thee from day to day. Intercessor, Friend of sinners, earth's Redeemer, plead for me, where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. Alleluia! King eternal, thee, the Lord of lords we own; Alleluia! born of Mary, earth thy footstool, heaven thy throne: thou, within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh, our great High Priest; thou on earth both Priest and Victim in the eucharistic feast. William Chatterton Dix: Public Domain

HYMN [6] New every morning is the love our wakening and uprising prove; through sleep and darkness safely brought, restored to life and power and thought. New mercies, each returning day, hover around us while we pray; new perils past, new sins forgiven, new thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven. If, on our daily course, our mind be set to hallow all we find, new treasures still, of countless price, God will provide for sacrifice. The trivial round, the common task, will furnish all we need to ask; room to deny ourselves, a road to bring us daily nearer God. Only, O Lord, in thy dear love, fit us for perfect rest above, and help us, this and every day, to live more nearly as we pray. John Keble: Public Domain Worship Songs Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, and where there s doubt, true faith in you.

O Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood, as to understand, to be loved, as to love with all my soul. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there s sadness, ever joy. Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we re born to eternal life. CCLI 2765 Sebastian Temple 1967 OCP Publications Song 2 Lord, I come to you, let my heart be changed, renewed, flowing from the grace that I found in you. And, Lord, I ve come to know the weaknesses I see in me will be stripped away by the pow r of your love. Hold me close, let your love surround me, bring me near, draw me to your side; and as I wait, Iʼll rise up like an eagle, and I will soar with you; your Spirit leads me on in the powʼr of your love.

Lord, unveil my eyes, let me see you face to face, the knowledge of your love as you live in me. Lord, renew my mind as your will unfolds in my life, in living every day in the pow r of your love. Hold me close, let your love surround me, bring me near, draw me to your side; and as I wait, Iʼll rise up like an eagle, and I will soar with you; your Spirit leads me on in the powʼr of your love. CCLI 2765 Geoff Bullock 1992 Word Music Inc./Song Solutions CopyCare Our thanks to Donovan, who is playing the piano for the worship songs in Miles absence today Offertory Hymn [384] Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief and pain. leave to your God to order and provide; in every change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul; your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past. your hope, your confidence let nothing shake; all now mysterious shall be clear at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know his voice, who ruled them while he dwelt below. Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart and all is darkened in the vale of tears, then you shall better know his love, his heart, who comes to soothe your sorrow, calm your fears. Be still, my soul: for Jesus can repay from his own fullness all he takes away. Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on when we shall be for ever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, sorrow forgotten, love's pure joy restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last. Katharina Von Schlegel, tr. Jane Laurie Borthwick: Public Domain Please stay for coffee and a chat after the service All those whom we know who are sick, lonely, troubled or grieving, our neighbouring church St Andrew s in vacancy and also for church family members and residents in local Nursing & Care Homes whom Muriel and the pastoral team visit.

Message in a Bottle is a small piece of kit THAT SAVES LIVES Known as a MIAB [Message In A Bottle], it is a simple idea that enables ANYONE to have their personal and/or medical details kept in a small secured container that would be of immense benefit to the emergency services in the case of an emergency. The trick is to KEEP IT IN YOUR FRIDGE. Now the good news! IT S FREE! We have plenty of these at the church, so just ask one of the churchwardens, or one of the administration team for an MIAB- it comes complete with blank labels, and instructions what to do. MIAB does not replace the Medic Alert/SOS Talisman. MIAB is supported by the Ambulance Service, the Police, Fire and Rescue, Doctors and NHS Primary trusts. It is sponsored by your local Lions Club. It is FREE and COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE. This is not only for people with medical conditions, but for anyone who lives alone or who has home responsibilities e.g. a pet, or is a carer / key holder for someone.

Window on the Pier If you care to take a walk along Worthing s pier, you will see several colourful windows, along the centre dividing panel, each one representing a group, organisation or church etc. from Worthing. 'Windows on the Pier' is a Worthing Journal initiative. Editor Paul Holden's aspiration is to create a cathedral-like gallery of stunning multi-coloured glass on Worthing Pier in Sussex that represents local societies, people and projects. There are literally hundreds of windows so once complete it will be quite a spectacle and something Worthing can be proud of! The pier is actually in the parish of Christ Church, and the PCC have agreed to pay for a window to be erected for Christ Church. An artist who specialises in stained glass has been commissioned to produce some sample pictures, so you, the congregation, and the PCC can choose what we finally ask to be placed on the pier. The total cost is 500. If anybody would like to donate anything towards this, please place your donation in a Gift Aid envelope marked WINDOW, or speak to the treasurer, Ken Hobbs.

A Message from the Knit and natterers! Just a little thank you to all the kind folk who are busily knitting Seafarers' hats, scarves and mitts and also baby hats for Worthing Hospital which Connie takes along periodically not to mention the blanket squares and egg cosies which Hazel Thorpe collects for distribution. Not all these are from Knit 'n Natterers - some have been contributions from members of our congregation, and in some cases from those using the patterns in the Parish Magazine. We also have a prolific knitter in the Humphrys Almshouses and also another in Amelia Court. Many grateful thanks to them all, The Knit 'n Natterers! Keeping in touch! Christ Church operates a taxi service for those who find it difficult to get to church on a Sunday, or through the week. If you would like to use the service, please talk with Joan, Sylvia or Lorraine. They can then give you the phone number and the password to book a cab. You do not then have to pay the driver. This is not dependent in any way on ability to pay, this is to help people get to church, without worrying if they have change, or need to call at the last minute etc. If people feel they would like to contribute towards the cost of the fares, they merely place their donation in a Gift Aid envelope, marked Taxi.
