Opening Hymn [368] All my hope on God is founded he doth still my trust renew; me through change and chance he guideth only good and only true. God unknown, he alone, calls my heart to be his own. Pride of man and earthly glory, sword and crown, betray his trust; what with care and toil he buildeth tower and temple, fall to dust, but God's power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower. God's great goodness aye endureth, deep his wisdom, passing thought; splendour, light and life attend him beauty springeth out of naught. Evermore from his store new-born worlds rise and adore. Daily doth th Almighty giver bounteous gifts on us bestow, his desire our soul delighteth, pleasure leads us where we go. Love doth stand at his hand; joy doth wait on his command. Still from man to God eternal sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praising for the gift of Christ his Son. Christ doth call one and all: ye who follow shall not fall. Robert Bridges: Public Domain (based on the German of Joachim Neander )

HYMN [213] Christ is the world's light, he and none other; born in our darkness, he became our brother. if we have seen him, we have seen the Father: Glory to God on high! Christ is the world's peace, he and none other; no one can serve him and despise a brother; who else unites us, one in God the Father? Glory to God on high! Christ is the world's life, he and none other; sold once for silver, murdered here, our brother. He who redeems us reigns with God the Father: Glory to God on high! Give God the glory, God and none other; give God the glory, Spirit, Son, and Father; give God the glory, God in man, my brother: Glory to God on high! CCLI 2765 F. Pratt Green 1969 Stainer & Bell Ltd. Worship Songs The Lord s my shepherd, I ll not want; he makes me lie in pastures green, he leads me by the still, still waters, his goodness restores my soul. And I will trust in you alone, and I will trust in you alone, for your endless mercy follows me, your goodness will lead me home.

He guides my ways in righteousness, and he anoints my head with oil; and my cup - it overflows with joy, I feast on his pure delights. Refrain And though I walk the darkest path - I will not fear the evil one, for you are with me, and your rod and staff are the comfort I need to know. And I will trust in you alone, and I will trust in you alone, for your endless mercy follows me, your goodness will lead me home. Song 2 CCLI 2765 Stuart Townend 1996 Thankyou Music (based on Psalm 23) Father, I place into your hands the things I cannot do. Father, I place into your hands the things that I ve been through. Father, I place into your hands the way that I should go, for I know I always can trust you. Father, I place into your hands my friends and family. Father, I place into your hands the things that trouble me. Father, I place into your hands the person I would be, for I know I always can trust you.

Father, we love to see your face, we love to hear your voice. Father, we love to sing your praise and in your name rejoice. Father, we love to walk with you and in your presence rest, for we know we always can trust you. Father, I want to be with you and do the things you do. Father, I want to speak the words that you are speaking too. Father, I want to love the ones that you will draw to you, for I know that I am one with you. CCLI 2765 Jenny Hewer 1975 Thankyou Music Offertory Hymn [413] Eternal Father, strong to save, whose arm hath bound the restless wave, who bidd st the mighty ocean deep its own appointed limits keep: O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea. O Christ, whose voice the waters heard and hushed their raging at thy word, who walkedst on the foaming deep and calm amid the storm didst sleep: O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea.

O Holy Spirit, who didst brood upon the waters dark and rude, and bid their angry tumult cease and give for wild confusion, peace: O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea. O Trinity of love and power, our brethren shield in danger's hour; from rock and tempest, fire and foe protect them wheresoe er they go thus evermore shall rise to thee glad hymns of praise from land and sea. William Whiting: Public Domain Please stay for coffee and a chat after the service! Revd David Renshaw, as he prepares for his licensing to Christ Church, and for Revd Peter Kane, who is to be licensed to St Botolph s. Please also pray for all those we know who are sick, grieving, troubled or lonely; for our neighbouring church St Andrew s in vacancy and for church family members and residents in local Nursing & Care Homes whom the pastoral team visit.

Open Church Many thanks to all who come along to support our Open Church days throughout the week, and especially to our fundraising Mission coffee mornings each Wednesday, when we welcome donations for the many missions we support. Saturday, 28 th July at 11.30am We are invited to join the congregation of St. Andrew the Apostle, Clifton Road for their Dedication Festival sung mass, followed by a buffet lunch. The guest preacher will be the Revd. Felix Smith (priest-in-charge of S. Michael s, Lancing). Please let Janine know if you would like to attend by 24 th July at the latest, as they need to know numbers for catering.

PRINT CARTRIDGES AND TONERS- The new supplier for the church office stationery etc. also recycles print toners and cartridges. They are supplying us with a box to collect them, so please bring in you old used cartridges and toners as from next week, and give them to Janine or Ann. Thank you! Christ Church Staycation is back! Last year, many came along to enjoy three afternoons of a mini holiday. This is for everyone to enjoy and join in, especially if you don t have the chance of a holiday away, and even if you do, everyone is more than welcome. There is no charge. So, come and join in with our time of Fun with Friends to be held in the church from Tuesday 31 st July, Wednesday 1 st and Thursday 2 nd August from 2pm to 4pm, ending with tea, coffee and cakes. Look forward to seeing you all there!

Cakes! On Thursday 26 th July at 2.30pm at a service of Holy Communion, the Revd David William Renshaw will be licensed as Priest-in-Charge of our parish by the Right Revd Mark Sowerby, Bishop of Horsham. Tea and cake will be served in the church following the service. If anyone can make or contribute cakes for the occasion, we would be very grateful. Please speak with Dorothy or Janine. CHRIST CHURCH ANNUAL FAIR SATURDAY, 15 th SEPTEMBER from 10.30am to 2.30pm A Message from Dorothy I realise that it may seem a little early to be requesting items but now is the time to start collecting and even bringing in the following: We would welcome bags of wrapped sweets (any variety) for the Guess the number of sweets in the jar. We had a very successful Bottle Bonanza last year when folk brought along wrapped bottles to the value of no less than 1. Donations for this would be much appreciated! We will also be running an interesting variation on a Lucky Dip and SMALL wrapped items of about 50p, eg. Miniature bottles of hand cream, notebooks, pens etc. would be welcome. Please hand in your contributions to Joan or myself. Many thanks. ALSO. Helpers needed! Please see the list at the back of the church for those willing to run a stall, or help with serving of refreshments, tidying up etc. If you are able to help, please put your name on the list, next to what you would like to do!

Calling all choir singers! On Friday, 5 th October, Christ Church is welcoming the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Caroline Nicholls for her Judges Service. This is normally held at the Cathedral, so we are honoured to be asked to host it this year. Caroline has requested that we have a choir, and so obviously, those members of the choir who can come will be there, but would very much welcome a few more singers to support them. If you, or any friends or family are used to singing Psalms, Canticles etc. and would like to join us, please talk with John Collins, as soon as possible, or ask them to contact the parish admin team on or Harvest Festival Sunday 7 th October 2018 The ladies are planning the decoration of the church for the Harvest festival, and also the Judges service on the Friday before. Would anyone who would like to help with flowers or other decorations please talk to Sue Caple, as soon as possible, as we are planning a meeting to discuss the plans. Thank you!

Message in a Bottle is a small piece of kit THAT SAVES LIVES Known as a MIAB [Message In A Bottle], it is a simple idea that enables ANYONE to have their personal and/or medical details kept in a small secured container that would be of immense benefit to the emergency services in the case of an emergency. The trick is to KEEP IT IN YOUR FRIDGE. Now the good news! IT S FREE! We have plenty of these at the church, so just ask one of the churchwardens, or one of the administration team for an MIAB- it comes complete with blank labels, and instructions what to do. MIAB does not replace the Medic Alert/SOS Talisman. MIAB is supported by the Ambulance Service, the Police, Fire and Rescue, Doctors and NHS Primary trusts. It is sponsored by your local Lions Club. It is FREE and COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE. This is not only for people with medical conditions, but for anyone who lives alone or who has home responsibilities e.g. a pet, or is a carer / key holder for someone.
