In Acts 18:24-28 we read about his powerful, Bible-based preaching, by which he refuted Jews who were claiming that Jesus was not the Christ. We should emulate his development of skills in apologetics. Before Apollos could preach both eloquently and rightly, however, he had to have explained to him the way of God more accurately (Acts 18:26). Apollos had known only the baptism of John and was preaching that baptism. Thankfully, two faithful Christian tentmakers named Aquila and Priscilla taught Apollos about Christ s baptism, and from then on Apollos faithfully preached baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Acts 18:27-28). In more recent times our brother, Dr. C.C. Crawford, wrote a sermon about Apollos in which he made basically the following points (Sermon Outlines on the Restoration Plea [Murfreesboro: DeHoff, 1956], ): 1. Despite Apollos eloquence, knowledge of the Bible, desire to do what was right, and work ethic, he was in error. Anyone living in the Christian era who was still teaching John s out-of-date baptism was in error. Notice that is possible for someone to be sincere, and yet be sincerely mistaken (Romans 10:2). Many of our friends and neighbors are in this position. 2. Aquila and Priscilla had a duty to correct Apollos error. We have a duty to the lost and the saved to correct erroneous teaching where we may (see 1 Thessalonians 2:9-12). What a tragedy if someone is lost because we fail to help him come to a knowledge of the truth! (over)

2 2 P a g e 3. Apollos had a responsibility to study, accept, and teach the truth. He could not go on teaching error after he had been exposed to the truth. We must be careful to learn accurately and teach the truth that God has revealed to us (see 1 Timothy 4:1-10). Now, following Dr. Crawford s outline, consider some things that Apollos might have said, if he shared the attitude of some in the religious world today. For example, what if Apollos had said, It doesn t make any difference what you teach about baptism, so long as you are sincere? Would that have been alright? Or, what if Apollos had said, Each individual s conscience can lead him to take whatever position he wants on baptism, and God will be pleased? Or, Aquila and Priscilla, you have no right to be so narrow-minded as to prefer your baptism over mine? Of course, these statements would have shown that Apollos heart was not right. Dr. Crawford has provided a sad but telling commentary on the atmosphere of religion in our times. PRAYER REQUEST: Katherine Sorensen had successful surgery on Tuesday to remove fluid from her lung and expand it. She is now in room B637. at Kennestone. She will see a specialist soon to get her heart in rhythm. Joyce Pigg is at home with the flu. She isn t real happy about this. Jean Franklin, Mike Satterfield s aunt, is facing health issues. She is a member at Woodstock. Please remember her in your prayers. Lemuel Riley s cousin, Jack Netherland, is suffering from health issues that began with pneumonia and is aggravated by Parkinson s Disease. He is an elder at the Church in Fayetteville, Tennessee. For cards his address is 920 3rd. Ave., Fayetteville, TN Former member Annette Satterfield is recuperating from the flu. Drake Satterfield has been admitted to the VA Hospital. His knees are buckling and he can t walk and he is very disoriented. The Drs. have not been able to diagnose his problems. RESPONSES Vera Terrell requested prayer for her family as they struggle with conflicts with their grandson. She also wants to be restored to faithfulness. Donna Hollingshed, who is a member at Woodstock and requested prayer for her 19 year old son, Chris, and 18 year old daughter, Brooke. She also requested prayer that her family will stay strong in their faith and overcome life s obsticals. THANK YOU Ladies, (the Ladies Workshop) I can t thank you enough for making the beautiful pillow out of the pink ribbon material. These will mean so much to a woman dealing with breast cancer. I know because it meant a lot to me and was very helpful after the surgery. I pray God continues to bless you ministry work. EASTER EGG HUNT NEW CLASS This class is to be the spiritual work of grounding believers deeper in the faith.col:1:28 & 29. Many that I have talked to about their salvation, still have moments when they fear or doubt that they can defend their faith against error. We want to assure the Christian that they don't need to entertain fear in their lives, to know what they believe & why. CLASS REQUIREMENTS Attention teachers, students, and parents: Students should not bring electronic devices into the classroom during class time unless medically necessary. This includes phones and tablets. Bibles are available in the classroom for use. Also, please refrain from bringing meals into the classroom and eating them during class time. Please discard any trash that is food related in the Fellowship Hall trash cans. MARRIAGE AND PARENTING SEMINAR The Seminar is fast approaching. There are flyers on the tables in the foyer for the marriage seminar to be held here on March Glenn and Cindy Colley will be conducting the seminar. Take as many as you need for family and friends or to post in a business you may frequent. Lunch will be served and there is a signup sheet on the bulletin board. Saturday, March 28, the L.A.M.B.S. will have their annual Easter Egg Hunt. Time: 1p.m. LAMBS bring a basket to carry your eggs and parents, please bring 12 plastic eggs (per child) filled with individually wrapped candy. Members if you would like to help with candy and/or plastic eggs to fill, it would be very much appreciated. CONGREGATION SOUP/CHILI AND GAME NIGHT FELLOWSHIP On Saturday, March 28 th the place to be is in the fellowship hall for a night of soup/chili, games and karaoke. Bring soup or chili, sides of choice, drinks and desserts, games, and musical instruments. Karaoke will be provided. Fun for all ages is planned. We will begin at 5 pm and last til 10 pm. A signup sheet is on the bulletin board. GOLDEN AGERS TUESDAY, MARCH 17 TH For the March Golden Agers get together the gentlemen are cooking breakfast for supper. What a treat. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 5 P.M. and enjoy not only a great meal but a fun time together. Money will be collected at the door for the food. Note the date and time change. WETOGA SUMMER CAMP It is that time of year again. Dana Stanley s friend from Atlanta Road Church of Christ, Peggy Garner, is collecting items for summer camp. This year Peggy needs canning jar rings regular size. Not the disc part but the ring part. These may be given to Dana or put on the table in the foyer that she uses for Care Cards; the one near the water fountain.
