The cost of the full weekend (Fri-Sun) is $150. Two days (Fri-Sat or Sat-Sun) is $85. One day (Sat, 9 a.m. 4 p.m.) is $55. 3 CAMP NAWAKWA OPEN HOUSE - We will be taking a tour of Camp Nawakwa on Sunday, March 18 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. to see what camp is all about. As a bonus, a $10 gift certificate for the camp store will be given to every new camper! We will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday to carpool. Please contact Kathleen if interested at or youth@felcc.org. WALL OF ENVELOPES-Help our youth get to Texas! Four youth from First head to Houston in June for a life-changing week of worship, fellowship, and service alongside 30,000 youth from across the country, and they need your support! Take an envelope (or several) off the wall between the Fellowship Hall and Memorial Hall, along the ramp downstairs, and return it to the church office with both a donation in the dollar amount specified on the front of the envelope and your name and address so we can thank you. Checks should be made payable to "First Lutheran Church -- Youth Savings Account." Please also be holding these youth in prayer as they prepare for this adventure! BACKPACK PROGRAM is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children at risk of hunger during non-school hours, specifically weekends and holidays. Participating kids will be given special backpacks once each week containing non-perishable food to meet their nutritional needs. March collection: Canned Fruit/Fruit Cups in light syrup; Dried Fruit: Raisins, Plums, Cranberries; and Applesauce. These are all individual serving containers. GIVE AND TAKE BOX is an ongoing program. The bright red box out Front is a distribution for personal care items to our neighbors. When you are shopping please remember to purchase a few items to share with our neighbors-shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper, tissues, etc. Thank you all for being a part of this outreach. HATS, MITTENS, AND SCARVES PROJECT- Collection of these items for men, women and children will continue throughout the season. Thanks for helping! LAUNDRY DAY #5- Coming June 3rd. Please keep saving your quarters and dollars for this ministry. Thank you for your support. THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS - One good act leads to another, and the impact grows. We have experienced this as many of you direct Choice Dollars to First Lutheran. The outreach funding we have received from Thrivent Financial through this program is continuing our important mission. During 2017 our church received $1,211 from the Thrivent Choice program. Thank you for your support. Eligible members who have Choice Dollars have until March 31, 2018 to direct them. Don t miss this opportunity to recommend that Thrivent Financial provide outreach funding to First Lutheran. Questions? WELCA QUARTERLY GATHERING is Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Diane Krebs, Social Worker and Kathryn Yaroschuk, Volunteer Coordinator will be our guest speakers. They will give an overview of the Hospice Program. Some of their information will concern the philosophy of hospice, the difference between hospice and palliative care, and eligibility and cost. EVERYONE is invited to attend. Both circles will be hosting so come and enjoy some Fellowship time following the presentation. HOLY COMMUNION INSTRUCTION will be held on Saturday, March 10 th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. This class is for elementary age children and their parents. And also with you. KYRIE Lent is a time of simplicity. Fresh flowers are used for the symbolism of life, joy, and human frailty. Because they do not wither or fade, artificial flowers are not as strong of a symbol as fresh flowers. With this in mind, during Lent we will not be displaying artificial flowers. The 40 days in the wilderness was a barren time, and the lack of flowers helps reflect this. We understand that persons enjoy donating flowers in honor or memory of their loved ones during Lent, so we continue this practice. However, on Sundays when no one has donated flowers, we will not be using artificial flowers for the season of Lent. Worship Attendance: Friday, February Sunday, February Sunday School 25 Stewardship Snippet Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before me. What do you love more than God? If most of us are honest, we might answer, Possibly my family, or my own life. Or, maybe my money, or my country. This first commandment seems simple but gets complex as we ponder it. Stewards and disciples know that the more they desire to put God above all else, the smoother their lives are. 20 PRAYER OF THE DAY The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Holy God, through your Son you have called us to live faithfully and act courageously. Keep us steadfast in your covenant of grace, and teach us the wisdom that comes only through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. SECOND READING 1 Corinthians 1: The message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart. 20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, 23 but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human strength. 8 GOSPEL John 2:13-22 The Holy Gospel according to St. John the 2 nd chapter. Glory to you, O Lord. 13 The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. 15 Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 He told those who were selling the doves, Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father s house a marketplace! 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for your house will consume me. 18 The Jews then said to him, What sign can you show us for doing this? 19 Jesus answered them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 The Jews then said, This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days? 21 But he was speaking of the temple of his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. 10 APOSTLE S CREED Let us confess the faith in which we are baptized. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. LORD S PRAYER Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. INVITATION TO COMMUNION Return to God with all your heart. Receive bread for the journey, drink for the desert. Thanks be to God. Please be seated. All Christians who believe that Jesus is truly present in the bread (body of Christ) and in the wine (blood of Christ) are welcome at the Lord's Table. To receive Holy Communion, please come down the center aisle, take a glass (the prefilled glasses contain grape juice), and gather at the altar. 11 EUCHARISTIC PRAYER Holy God, our living Water and our merciful Guide, together with rivers and seas, wells and springs we bless and magnify you. You led your people Israel through the desert, and provided them water from the rock. We praise you for Christ, our Rock and our Water, who joined us in our desert, pouring out his life for the world. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. ANTHEM Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see. 12 OFFERING PRAYER Merciful God, receive the sacrifice of our praise and thanksgiving and the offering of our lives, that following in the way of the cross, we may know the joy of the resurrection; through Christ our Lord. PREFACE It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, Holy Father, through Christ our Lord. You bid your people cleanse their hearts and prepare with joy the paschal feast. Renew our zeal in faith and life, and bring us to the fullness of grace that belongs to the children of God.
