You are invited to complete the visitor registration forms at the end of the pew or on the back table. It is a gift to have Rev. Fred Northup back in the pulpit this morning. Fred is a retired Episcopal priest who has served congregations in Memphis, Paris, New York City and Lake Charles, Louisiana. He served as Dean of St. Mark s Cathedral in Seattle for ten years. Following his retirement, he founded a nonprofit organization, Athletes for a Better World (abw.org) which uses sports to teach values to young athletes. He and his wife Julie, a retired attorney, live in Asheville, North Carolina and, as much as possible, on Water Island. Black History Month: The economic conditions of World War I led to a massive movement of African Americans from the South to the North, known as the Great Migration, one of the largest and most rapid mass internal movements in history - perhaps the greatest not caused by the immediate threat of execution or starvation. In keeping with the 2019 theme Black Migrations we are highlighting some of our own STRC family history in the Virgin Islands. (Today s family highlight - Andrea Lee) XYG Mission (High School Youth) Bake Sale and Barbecue TODAY after worship! Come support 2019 s Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic. The Season of Lent begins Wednesday, March 6 with Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. including special music and the imposition of the ashes. Sunday School classes meet each week at 9:15! Students will meet in the Pavilion between 9 and 9:15 and will be taken to their respective classrooms. At the end of the session they will be walked to the Sanctuary prior to the start of the Worship Service so they can sit with their families. 5

All are invited to attend Lift Every Voice: A Musical Celebration of Black History next Sunday, Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m. at the Memorial Moravian Church. The concert is being presented by Gylchris Sprauve, and will feature performances by multiple singers, instrumentalists and ensembles. The nursery is located in the Bakery Square annex is open to children 3 years and under. Parents take turns supervising the youngsters. Parents are also needed to volunteer to be responsible for Activity Time. 6

7 Retreat Center 2 Update This past week we were blessed with the small but mighty team of volunteers representing Grace Chapel Zeeland from Zeeland, Michigan. They spent numerous hours painting at various work sites. They cleared out the second floor of the Archive Room. They enjoyed playing dodgeball and making Valentine cards at the LPCC after school program, but one of the activities that resonated most with all involved was the visit with the elderly community at Seaview. This visit was done in partnership with the STRC Women s Ministry and truly filled the hearts of both the volunteers and the elderly residents with LOVE and GRATITUDE. We said goodbye for now on Friday. This afternoon, we have the privilege of WELCOMING a group of seventeen from Christ Community Reformed Church located in Clifton Park, New York to the Retreat Center. They will be here from February and worshipping with us next Sunday. The group leader is Ed King and accompanying the team is their pastor, John Bosman and his wife Marie. Music and Arts Update Children s Choir Sings Next Sunday! The Children s Choir will sing in worship next Sunday. Parents, please plan to have your child/children attend this morning s rehearsal to prepare. YouthSong Starts TODAY! STRC YouthSong will meet on Sundays from noon to 12:30 in the Music Room. Each session, we ll cover vocal technique and performance skills as we work on songs to sing in worship and beyond. Come if you re interested in developing a strong, healthy voice! As we build our repertoire, we ll also work on soloing and audition technique. This group is open to all teens (Jr. High/High School). For more info, contact Chanelle or just come check it out! 7
