We want children, young adults, families, single persons, elderly, those struggling and those joyful to come together supporting each other in Christ s Love. Just as Christ is always seeking us, we strive to seek those who need connection. This is one of our core values, and LGBTQ persons are included in this. In late February, there was a called General Conference to vote on a plan to address LGBTQ issues in the denomination. What was voted on was the Traditional Plan, that maintains the current language and adds some additional consequences to those that violate these stances. The next step is for the Judicial Council to determine if these new additions are constitutional. However, it has come to light that there are alleged to have been impropriety on the part of some African delegations, which are embroiling the vote in controversy. For more information please go to en/. Please continue to pray for our denomination and strive to find ways to love person who have been hurt by the church.

3 V o l u m e 8, I s s u e 4 P a g e 3 From Yo u r Pa stor When Robbie, my oldest child was in eighth grade, it was about this time of year that I received official notice from the school district telling me that one of her teachers was not certified for the discipline in which she was teaching. They were required to notify all parents this was the case. The most interesting thing about that notification was that that class was the one, of all the courses she was taking, that most had Robbie's attention. That that was the class that she came home talking I Will... Linda and I have been members of Euless First UMC since During that time, we have had the opportunity to chair four different Capital Campaigns: Tomorrow Depends on You Today, Forward in Faith, Burn the Debt, and I Will. I remember back in 2006 when I didn't feel old enough to be the person talking about money and asking for money! Now that I am nearly 60 years old I guess I am old enough. As we begin the current journey of I Will - capital campaign number four, to about, and asking questions about. That American history teacher, while not certified to teach American history, threw herself into it passionately and energetically. The passion and the energy caught my child and, I'm sure, many other eighth-graders that year. I write this story because most of you are not Seminary trained. Very few of you are ordained to Ministry. Yet, I want you to know, your stories of how God is working in your lives really inspire me. Your passion for following receive commitments for $1,000,000 to be pledged and paid between May 5, 2019, and April 29, 2022, it makes me reflect on where Linda and I will be in What will our children be doing, and what will the church be doing? As many of you know, I am an eternal optimist, and the vision I have of all 3 of my children is outstanding! As you pray and consider your part of the "I Will" journey. What is your vision for the future? Are you an eternal optimist in your personal life and in your spiritual life? Each of the previous Jesus encourages and inspires me! Certification and education can be helpful, and both can make a huge difference, but it will never replace passion in their ability to draw people to energized other people. If you're sharing about how you're following Jesus is moving you and changing you and growing you is this encouraging to me, I can only imagine how encouraging it is to other people in your circles of friendship. capital campaigns have been successful beyond my wildest dreams! I hope and pray this one is too, but we need each person to play a part. This church has treated my family wonderfully. Linda and I believe everyone needs to participate so we can continue to share God's blessings with others for the next 140 years! Please consider your commitment and sacrifice. Our position continues to be-- not equal giving, but equal sacrifice. If you have questions, please call me at or me at David.lewis1614@gmail.com. but it will never replace passion... not equal giving, but equal sacrifice

4 P a g e 4 E uless Kids The weeks leading up to Easter are usually an exciting time. Spring is in the air, the end of the school year is in sight, and summer is just around the corner. But there is so much that happens in the last few weeks of Jesus life that it sometimes gets glossed over for the big reveal of Easter morning. Peter, one of Jesus beloved disciples, denies he knows him three times! Jesus Student Ministries enters Jerusalem with palm branches waving, then the empty tomb. Wait, is that all there is? Well, of course not, but the crucifixion is hard for adults to understand at times, so it is more comfortable to mention it in passing and then move on to happier times. Remember we are still in the season of Lent and that can lead to further deepening our relationship and understanding of Jesus and his journey to the cross. In Sunday school classes we will be looking at those last few weeks of his life and what it was like to be betrayed by so many that were so close to him. Then we celebrate as the tomb is opened and it is empty, clothes folded neatly where a body once lay. He is Risen. Indeed! -Jamie Nalley, Director of Children s Ministry There are several events coming up in the approaching months that really need the presence of additional adults. In particular, we'd love to have you join us for a shift during ArborDaze on April 27th - it's a long Saturday, there are always conflicting school events that limit everyone's time... So, having additional people there makes the work lighter, makes the time pass more quickly, and makes the day that much more fun! I promise that you won't regret showing up and supporting our students! Please contact Shane about how you can help out! We would like to express our biggest thanks to everyone who supported the E1ement Students' 3rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Cake Auction! If you were there, you know it was a lot of fun! Check out some of the pictures! Because of this event, we raised well over $3000 for our youth ministry. Mega thanks to all of the students and parents who put in the effort to make it happen, those of you who took the time to show up for our students, and every single one of you who hates beards so much (Shane is still traumatized!). Also, a very special word of thanks to Thomas Hawthorne for serving as our highly entertaining auctioneer! This Month: April 7 Fun Stuff BE. April 14 UMCYouth.Net Gathering BE. LOVE. 5 V o l u m e 8, I s s u e 4 P a g e 5 A bu ndance C afe Abundance Cafe is our weekly breakfast on Sundays in the Family Life Center Café. We merely ask for a donation. This is a great time to have a cup of coffee and enjoy fellowship with our fellow churchgoers. We want to thank the cooks for all the great I Wi ll Praise breakfast goodies provided each week! All donations from this ministry support Euless First s Missional Giving (previously known as Apportionments) unless otherwise indicated. Please join us each Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10:00 in the Café. Here is the calendar for April 2019: April 07- New Genesis/ Together 14 Fresh Start B 21 Easter Sunday All Church Brunch, No Sunday School 28-Synergy Our first core value is, We believe in worshipping God. We know that God s love is life changing and we want people to experience God s contagious love through our enthusiasm. Second, we believe in spiritual and physical growth. We strive for the courage to be vulnerable with ourselves and each other to grow. Faith is a continual journey to challenge our complacency with God. Hospitality We want to mentor, teach and grow new and young believers. We want to grow in fellowship with others. As we continually look for ways during this season of Lent to push ourselves to challenge our complacency with church and our faith, we are looking for new and different avenues for everyone to worship, grow, serve, reach and give. One such way, during the season of Lent, is I Will Praise. Join Will and Jackie Long on Thursday evenings in the Café as they lead a time of prayer and music. Learn new songs, sing some you might already know, fellowship with others, and recharge during the week. This is an intimate setting to meet new people in our congregation and to share your love for God. Take time during your week to join them, Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. in the Café. The Hospitality Committee is hard at work with such events this month as the Cooking Class, Flower Sale, and Newcomer Lunch. But keep a look out for future events as well. In June we will be hosting a Church Picnic and in August we will have our swim night at the water park. If you are able to help with Hospitality, please be sure to let Dave Lewis know.

6 P a g e 6 L eadersh ip Euless First United Methodist Church Leadership is continuing to push ourselves to trust in God and to think beyond our current understanding of church. As part of this effort, leadership has been meeting weekly to discuss aspects of our congregation and look at characteristics of vital congregations. We currently have been using the book Multiply Your Impact by Paul Nixon and Christie Latona. It is a playful book for taking local church leaders into crucial conversations about the core practices and competencies that will enable innovation and ministry growth in the 21st century. The book uses fun images and allegories to share these eight principles: Understanding the Multiplication Game, Tend the Soil, Raise the Spiritual Temperature, Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing, Build Positive Relationships Savor the Gift of Diversity Lead with Your Strengths Be Nimble It has been a slower group then we had initially thought as we are taking time to dig into each chapter. Our goal is to finish by Easter and move onto another book sometime after that. Here are a couple of highlights from our discussion. Churches that are multiplying have these characteristics: Leaders helping to recruit, form, and release new leaders People letting go of the status quo to expand, reach and share Christ with others Thinking about the mission beyond just caring for those already here Carefully evaluating everything we do in light of our mission, vision and core values. Churches that are tending the soil well are doing these ten things: prayer, abundant evangelism, theological simplicity, economical in their approach, trust, finding and growing leaders, giving scriptures a high value, simple systems, non-competing priorities, and rapid reproduction. We have extensively discussed these issues and more. We are looking intently at how we raise the spiritual temperature at Euless First. We know that God has made a massive impact on our lives and that we need to share that impact with others. We want people at Euless First to see the desire and love not just for this congregation, but for Jesus Christ in our lives. We have all had powerful times when God has moved us, and we want others to come with us in our pursuit to follow God. We don t want them to be chasing our excitement but be reaching for Christ alone. As we continue this pursuit, we ask you to say "I will" do something new and challenging. Consider joining us on Sunday afternoons, 4:00 p.m., as we look toward where God is calling us.

At this same time, my child is getting ready for bed only because I have repeated myself. Repetition, reminding, and jogging one s memory are the objectives of monthly articles. I am sure that over the past 150 years of United Methodist Women, repetition has occurred, and because of it, actions have been taken to show God s love around the world. So I am repeating. Truly you could feel the love in the air for Beth and her family. June Ivey Online Giving Link 5 Secrets of Good and Faithful Servants Part 2 3. Good and Faithful Servants Know Their Abilities. Isn t it interesting that the man who went on the journey gave something to each of his servants according to their ability? God knows what your talents and abilities are because He gave them to you! There s no point in comparing your abilities to someone else God wants you to use what He s given you! But do you know what your gifts are? If you need some help identifying or fine-tuning the gifts God gave you, check out Discover Your Gifts by Faith Alive Publishing at es.org 4. Good and Faithful Servants are Action- Oriented. You may have heard there are three kinds of people in the world those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened. The good and faithful servants made things happen. They didn t put things off until tomorrow. They didn t wait until they were in a better mood or were less busy. Instead, they went at once to put their master s resources to work for him. Is there something God is asking you to say, do, or give today? From the Barnabas Foundation
