The intent is to get as much information about what we value to the architects as early in the process as possible! Here is an update from the Real Estate Committee: The purchase agreements on both the sale of our property and the purchase of our new property have been executed. We are now in a period of due diligence in advance of closing on both Round Up Sunday Round Up Sunday, our annual coming back together celebration before school starts and after a great summer is set for August 20! Do you ever feel like you are wandering alone on the road of life? Do you ever wonder if you will find where you feel you belong? Well, it is time again to find our way back to God. Join us as we conclude our Blockbusters summer sermon series with a look at a Dances with Wolves, and the Eclipse for- Dances with Physics! On the day before the grandest solar eclipse in the US in quite some time, we'll deals. All through this process, from long before relocation was decided upon, we have been in close communication, as appropriate, with leadership at the City of Euless. They have been supportive in every way imaginable, and continue to work with us as we need. If you know any City of Euless leaders or employees, thank them! Also, the next couple of years promise to be full of excitement, but also full of stress. Remember that the finish our Blockbuster Sermon Series with a finale that welcomes everyone - churched and unchurched - to consider how we live together. The story of Dances with Wolves, one of the biggest blockbusters ever, welcomes us all to consider where we are in the clash of cultures. Do we go native? Do we defend the tradition with which we were raised? How do we face these questions in ways that are faithful to the God highway expansion project that precipitated all of this actually began almost 4 years ago. We have had highs and lows all along the way, and, as a church family, we have faced the challenges together, and grown closer. There is not a time of life that is stress-free, but there will be a time that the kinds of extra stresses we face as a church right now will be behind us. Let s continue to hold one another in prayer until then! who commands us to love our neighbors? We anticipate a wonderful day to worship God, enjoy a potluck lunch and fellowship with our church family, promotion to older Sunday School classes if needed, and get ready to start our next sermon series: Good. Works.

Blockbusters Summer is winding down, but we want to make sure we go out with a bang! We have had so much fun this summer discussing movies in worship as well as our other fun events. We had a great church picnic back in June, and on July 30 we will have God in the Movies for the entire church. There will be a light dinner and a movie for all ages. Come and join us and talk about God in our world around us. Then make sure to invite your friends and family to our Swim Night on August 13 at the Euless Family Life Aquatic Park. The event will be 7:30m 9:30 p.m. and we only ask that you bring a donation for the Food Pantry. What a great summer 2017 has been! Let s all celebrate it together! Operation Back to School Page 4 Did you know that 55% of HEB ISD students come from homes that are economically disadvantaged? The goal of Operation Back 2 School is to provide these students with new backpacks and school supplies, as well as give their parents social service information to help all year long. You can help a student start the school year off right for just $30 or help a whole classroom full of kids for $600. The recipient children have been identified and preregistered through the HEB ISD Office of School Improvement. Application instructions are sent home with qualifying children in early April. The school supplies are purchased in bulk to maximize funds. Each kit contains the supplies approved by the school district. Euless First United Methodist Church will once again participate in this awesome community event. First, our July Communion Offering went to support Operation Back 2 School. It is not to late to still make a donation to the church, either online or in the offering plate. Just make sure to designate Back 2 School Second, volunteers are needed to help at the event on August 12, from 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. at Campus West, please sign up to volunteer online at 6stones.org/ob2s. We have had the honor of being listed as a sponsor in the past, and can do so again this year with your help. Be sure to find a way to help Operation Back 2 School. Students at all 20 elementary schools and at 7 secondary schools are beyond grateful!

Project Transformation Project Transformation is a ministry initiative that started in the North Texas Conference in Since its conception, it has grown to 6 annual conferences around the country. Project Transformation ministers in three primary areas: Children: the program works with inner city kids to help them maintain or improve reading levels over the summer. College Students: College Students design and implement the day camp environment for elementary age kids. Churches: programs are held in churches looking to improve their interactions in their neighborhoods. Project Transformation Central Texas had a great summer serving 150 kids, with 20 interns at three churches in the metro-plex. Here is how we were involved: 1 - We agreed to contribute all or part of the $3,500 needed to cover the intern s living stipend and room & board. Your intern was Ousmane Gueye (pronounced Ooos-mon Gooey). We have paid the entire amount! 2 - We provided dinners during the summer for around 30 people twice. on June 8th and July 18th. We were able to sit and enjoy conversations with young people from around our country, that are looking Euless First Preschool into service and ministry as they move forward in life. Thank you Janna Hamm, Tami Polenz, Norma Lively, Teresa Watts, Charlotte Everett, Stan Lewiecki, and Kyle Lewis for all your help! 3 We helped with snacks and other book donations throughout the summer. We will continue all year to see what items they might need to continue to grow and impact more children, college students and churches! For more information check out projecttransfomation.org/ centraltexas. Preschool has been enjoying their summer off, but will be ready to get back into the swing of things soon! Our first staff meeting is August 22. James Gordon with the Euless Police Department will be providing us with some safety training. Our Week 2 Summer Camp parent meeting will be August 29 at 7 PM with an Open House on August 30 for the students to come visit their classrooms. Our first day of school will be August 31. We will be selling Kidstuff coupon books for $25, so if you would like one, ask a preschool student or Linda Lewis. We will also be participating in the North Texas Great Day of Giving on Sept. 17, so feel free to make tax-deductible donations by logging on to northtexasgivingday.com and searching for Euless First United Methodist Preschool. Both of these fund-raisers will be used for either new items or new Island Fun Dancing- Week 2 playground equipment for our new location. Page 5 Week 1- Bingo

E1ement Students We survived Student Activity Week! We've had a lot of fun in July 2017! Ask some teenagers about their time at Group Dynamix or their new paintings! Thanks to all the parents and adults who helped out to make it so awesome! Here's what we have coming up on the calendar! We hope that you'll join us for our CTCYM Follow-Up Fellowship Lunch on August 13th! Watch our youth website e1ementstudents.c om for more details about Euless First Kids While I would love to think of myself as a superhero, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and accomplish great things and be everywhere I need to be all the time, I know that I cannot be all things to all people at all times. If there is one thing that we learned at Vacation Bible School s Hero Central it is that we all need help. Well, I need help. I need volunteers in the children s department, specifically teachers aides in Sunday school classrooms and in Kid s Connection. So, what specifically each of them and to see photos from some of these events. In August: August 6 - Super Fun Stuff Night August 13 - CTCYM Follow -Up Fellowship Lunch August 13 - All Church Swim The Euless Aquatic Center August 20 - Ranger Game Epic-ness! There's a David Crowder concert following the game, and we're staying to worship! August 27 - Vision Night does that entail? Being present at a certain date and time. That s it. There is no lesson preparation needed, no theology degree requirement, no other outside time requirement (unless you feel led, but we can discuss that later!). If you can commit to one Sunday a month to serve the children of our church and community, please contact me. We need people in our preschool room, 3rd-6th grade room, Kid s Connection during Also, we will be playing Whirlyball in August, we are trying to nail down a date that works for some other youth groups. Special Note: If you are a parent and not currently signed up to receive our weekly text updates, please contact Shane to get added. For further details on any of these events, please visit our website: e1ementstudents.com. the 11:00 service, as well as substitutes. Life happens, and we all need help from time to time. Thank you. -Jamie Nalley, Children s Director Page 6

Stewardship Moment 7 Habits of a Highly Effective Steward Part 6 of 7 Habit 6: Give Time and Talent What can we do with the life that God has given us? Since everything we have really belongs to God, we are simply using for God what God has entrusted to us. This includes our intellect, beauty, skills, energy, time and imagination. Each one of us is uniquely gifted. God has a purpose and plan for each of us that no one else can fulfill. We possess our own unique temperaments, passions, skills and experiences to be used for God s purpose. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God s grace in its various forms. I Peter 4:10 (NIV) Discipleship Journey As Christian stewards managers of the gifts God has given us we are called to reflect God s love in our community. We are called to love as Jesus loved, to serve as Jesus served. This means we have a responsibility to reflect God s love in our homes and offices, city streets and neighborhoods in everything we say and do. In a world weakened by a lack of love, we are called to offer loving service to others. One of the greatest gifts we can give is the gift of self. Any day is a good day to offer the gift of self to build up the Kingdom of God in our families, communities and church. What will be the fruit of a truly Christian stewardship of time and talent? First, we will multiply ourselves in His service. Second, we will advance the work of the kingdom. Third, we will bring glory to God, and this is the reason we are here. Reprinted by permission: Barnabas Foundation, Tinley Park, IL Online Giving Link Euless First will be presenting an expanded Discipleship Journey smallgroup study program this Fall and Winter to help persons know, grow, go and glow in their relationship with God. Some familiar courses will be offered along with some new ones. Presently under consideration are: 1) Alpha 10 weeks of interactive sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith 2) Cherish In this 6 week class, author Gary Thomas will show you how to cherish one another in proven, loving, and everyday actions and words., and how to bring hope, light, and life to your marriage. 3) Half Truths of the Bible a 6 weeks Adam Hamilton study searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus 4) Stepping on Cheerios Women who are juggling everyday feats of work, motherhood, marriage, and church will discover how God works in our lives no matter what comes next. 5) Jesus Apprentice a 5 weeks study exploring Christian belief through Christian action, following in the footsteps of Jesus our teacher and mentor 6) Animate: Faith a 7 week study. In each Animate session, the group will watch a video, spend time on personal reflection and journaling, and share ideas with the group. Participants are encouraged to sketch, doodle, and create. There is a strong desire to offer a variety of classes and activities which will meet our congregation s needs. If you have a particular study or topic to recommend for consideration, please let Pastor Beverly or Mike McGehee know as soon as possible. Page 9

We are at the edge of this future; a future that will last beyond the lifetime of everyone who reads this article. From the Pastor We had our annual program planning retreat in mid-july. We hope to have some interesting and exciting things for you this coming year. And even the things that aren t interesting or exciting are intended to help you grow as a disciple of Jesus! Early in our meeting together, Rev. Springer shared a bit about looking toward our future. She shared an article about Planting trees under which we will not sit. What a perfectly timed point for us all! Over the next several weeks, the initial stages of our building program will begin to take shape. By the end of the year, we could have some idea of what our new building, our new property, and our future, might look like. We are at the edge of this future; a future that will last beyond the lifetime of everyone who reads this article. How do we plan well for Adopt a School people we don t know to inhabit and worship God in a space they won t get to design? I ve come up with an acronym that might help us keep our focus in the right direction. To keep it simple, the acronym is PRAY. P is for Preserve the right stuff. You ve no doubt heard the story about one generation teaching the next generation how to bake a ham. The first step was to cut off one end of the ham. No one knew why until great-grandma was asked. She used to cut off one end of the ham because the ham was always too big to fit in the pan she had. As we look toward building and moving, we will want to be very careful and intentional about WHY we move what we move. Preserve the right stuff. Reach forward. The Church you and I are planning and building will be a church for other people more than for us. Let s start to meet them now. Don t pass up an opportunity to meet people you don t know. Listen to their stories. Reach forward. Act like Jesus. Jesus lived most of his ministry moments, to an extent, as a visitor. Jesus, and the reputation that preceded him, was welcomed as a guest almost everywhere he went. Let s be mindful to act and live in ways that make other people want to invite us in, welcome us to their presence, their conversation, and their lives. Act like Jesus. Yield to God. Remember, through all that we ll go through, that our intention is to follow God, to worship God, to be faithful to God. This is not about what you and I want or don t want as much as it is about growing in our faithfulness to God and one another. Yield to God. Please join me in PRAYing as we continue to move toward the future to which God is calling us! Page 10 With the new school year fast approaching, it is time to gear up our support for South Euless Elementary School! One of the ways we have blessed South Eules in the past is by providing mentors to students. Mentoring can provide an untold amount of encouragement and support for a child, and can take as little as a couple of hours a month. If you would be interested in becoming a mentor for a student, or just have questions for what is involved in mentoring, please contact Pastor Steve Heyduck

Summer Book Club Time once again for the summer Book Club! With summer s arrival it is time to get our summer reading list together. In conjunction with our summer of Blockbusters sermon series, our books will also be Blockbusters. These selections were all best sellers! There is still one book left. On August 27, at 12:20 p.m. we will discuss For the Love by Jen Hatmaker. Best-selling author Jen Hatmaker reveals with humor and style how Jesus embarrassing grace is the key to dealing with life's biggest challenge: people. The majority of our joys, struggles, thrills, and heartbreaks relate to people, beginning with ourselves and then the people we came from, married, birthed, live by, go to church with, don t like, don t understand, fear, compare ourselves to, and judge. Jen knows how the squeeze of this life can make us competitive and judgmental, how we can lose love for others and then for ourselves. She reveals how to: Break free of guilt and shame by dismantling the unattainable Pinterest life. Learn to engage our culture s controversial issues with a gracefirst approach. Be liberated to love and release the burden of always being right. United Methodist Women Thank you, First Euless, for supporting the July 30th UMW Mission Day. All money raised from the breakfast, bake sale, and luncheon donations went to the Allies for Youth Development. School is starting soon and that means sales! Remember school supplies, underwear and socks (all kid sizes), and gently used/new jackets are always needed. Donations can be dropped off in the UMW Mission Room upstairs. All ladies of Euless First are welcome to visit one of our monthly meetings. Regular group meetings resume in August. Harmony Hope meets August 1 at 10am and Thoughtful Friends meet Identify the tools you already have to develop real-life, all-in, know-my-junk-butlove-me-anyway friendships. Escape our impossible standards for parenting and marriage by accepting the standard of mostly good. Laugh your butt off. Join us August 27, as we expand our minds, our spirits, and spend time together learning about God. August 10th at 6pm. Both groups meet in the Swor Parlor and include a light snack. Thank you again to all who cut, pinned, ironed, and sewed 112+ capes for VBS! Because of the great turnout, a new UMW hands on mission/interest group will be formed. Please watch for future announcements and activities! New Members Euless First United Methodist is excited to welcome our newest member Jay Gilley (pictured right) who joined July 23. When you see him on Sunday, let him know that with him in our presence we will never be the same again! Page 11
