May 7, 2017 Message from Pope Francis 54th World Day of Prayer for Vocations The Holy Father says commitment to mission is an essential element of faith itself. He divides his message into three subtitles: 1. Jesus is anointed by the Spirit and sent: Being a missionary disciple means to share actively in the mission of Christ. 2. Jesus is at our side every step of the way: Contemplate the risen Jesus walking along side the disciples of Emmaus when confronted with life s challenges. 3. Jesus makes the seed grow: Let the Gospel teach us the way of proclamation. He encourages a profound friendship with the Lord, above all for the sake of imploring from on high new vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life. 5 May 12-13, 2017 in Ottawa, ON Canada Heavenly Father, You sent Your Son, Jesus, to bring new life to the world and to every person who would receive Him. The Apostles carried out the noble task of taking this Good News to the corners of the earth. Throughout history, men and women have faithfully responded to the call to be missionaries and have brought family, friends, and strangers to a place of encounter with You. We thank You for the multitude of missionaries that have gone before us so that we might have faith today. We have been given the tremendous gift of being Your instruments now in carrying out the work of evangelization. May we faithfully follow You in all of our initiatives. May we give generously of ourselves. And may our hearts be evermore set on fire with a desire to see people come to know and love Your Son, Jesus Christ. As we prepare for the New Evangelization Summit, we ask that You may fill us with wisdom, courage, and charity. We pray for Ottawa, and for each of the host sites, that they may be places of encounter and formation. We pray for the speakers, that they may be inspired as they prepare. We pray for the needs of every one of the volunteers who are involved. We pray for the participants may those You have called to attend respond to this call and may You begin now to stir up in them a great ardor for the work of the new Evangelization. There will be a 7:30 AM Mass in the Church. Featuring Fr. Michael White, Sr. Miriam Heidland, Bishop Robert Barron, Tom Corcoran, Patrick Sullivan, Michael Dopp, Meghann Baker, and Peter Herbeck.
