Perhaps more than any other time in history, fear is gripping multitudes of people - even God s people. Like the little boy who was scared to go out at night because he knew the darken would get him, many people today, if not fearful, are surely anxious and concerned about the conditions we see in our world. And yet, over and over again, God s word says, Fear not. Of course, not fearing is easier said than done, but we can be encouraged when we realize three things. 1. Many of the things we fear never come to pass. Many are the people whose lives are tormented day by day waiting for some terrible event which never comes. 2. We should also remember that our fears and anxieties do not help. Someone described the uselessness of fear as building bridges over rivers you ll never cross. 3. And finally, we simply must trust God. The story is told of a woman whose doctor approached her bed and said, Lady, we ve done all we can; from now on we must just trust in God. Oh, no, cried the desperate woman, has it come to that? Yes, it s come to that! Paul said it best, I know whom I have believed. That takes a lot of the fear out of life. Knowing that the creator God holds all things in His hands, sure helps us to face all situations with more confidence. With that knowledge the inscription over the fireplace in an English tavern holds true which declares, Fear knocked at the door; faith answered. No one was there.

2 September has flown by as so many months seem to do! Time has a curious way of being able to drag and fly simultaneously. The youth trip to Caswell was wonderful! I am so grateful for all of you who prayed for and supported our trip. The weekend there was both fun and meaningful, and I believe it provided some good opportunities for growing closer as a group. For that, I am particularly grateful. On October 21 st at 2:00pm we will have a Fall event for our children in S150. Food, pumpkin decorating, and more will be involved, so young families, please plan to bring your children on this special day! October is the month in which we celebrate World Communion Sunday. This is always the first Sunday in October. With that in mind I want to share the lyrics to a beautiful anthem by Pepper Choplin. Some of you may have seen these on my Facebook page awhile back. In the midst of all that threatens to divide us, these lyrics speak truth in powerful ways: One world, one communion, one faith in Christ the Son. So much we have in common though we are miles apart through the Holy Spirit we are one in heart And so we are one world, one communion, one faith in Christ in Christ the Son. Though many things divide us, With great diversity, Through the power of love we will find unity, So help us see there s one world, one communion, one faith in Christ the Son. There is room for all who come. May love unite us, dear ones. Always and forever. Peace, Patricia This year we are adopting Monroe Avenue Elementary School and will be doing things throughout the year for the students and staff there. One ongoing project will be collecting box tops. If you don t already collect and turn them in somewhere, please bring them to the church, and we will get them to Monroe Avenue. Also, and very importantly, please keep this school, its students, teachers, and employees, in your prayers! On Saturday, October 14 th the Missions Committee will sponsor a work day for those in need of yard and house work. If you or someone you know needs some help, please let one of the Missions Committee members know. We will also need volunteers to help. Your Missions Committee members are Mandy Allen, Steve Morris, Cynthia Morris, Dennis Holloway, and Chris McDuffie. Blessing of the Animals: On Sunday, October 15th, at 6:00pm, we will be having a Blessing of the Animals service in the courtyard outside the church office. We know that many of you have pets that are very special parts of your family! We hope you will bring them on October 15th for this service of blessing!
