You will be amazed to see the transformation from a military base to a beautiful 4.9 star hotel located right on the edge of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Make your reservations by March 31st! Our conference is in the height of Bluebonnet Season in Texas Hill Country! 5 it is well REGISTRATION: TBMA Conference Registration Form is included in this packet! DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS MARCH 31, 2018! Conference Check-in will be in the hotel lobby on Thursday, April 19, from 12:00noon to 5:00pm and Friday, April 20, from 7:30am-8:00am. HOTEL RESERVATIONS: Group rate is $147 per room. Remember to reserve your room no later than March 31st. Our conference is in the height of Bluebonnet Season, and rooms may not be available after March 31st. To make reservations, see Accommodations page in this packet. Hotel check-in is at 3:00pm. You may be able to check in before that time; if not, the hotel will hold your luggage while you attend the first session at 2:00pm. Hotel check-out is 12:00noon. BIBLE STUDY: Our Bible Study will be led by Micheal Summers, a TBMA regular. Bible Study times are scheduled for Thursday evening at 7:15pm, Friday morning at 7:30am, and Saturday morning at 7:30am. All guests/husbands are welcome to attend the Bible Study. DOOR PRIZES: Don t forget to bring a door prize! Door prizes will be given out during each meal. All door prizes, including vendor door prizes, are given to those who are present when their name is called...must be present to win! T-SHIRTS: You may pre-order a conference t-shirt. Light gray, short-sleeved tee with the It Is Well conference logo on the front. Extra t-shirts will be available for purchase at the conference, but sizes are not guaranteed if not pre-ordered. VENDOR AND MINISTRY FAIR: Our Vendor/Ministry Fair will be located on the lower level outside the banquet room, below registration and classroom area. Find plenty of information and treasures! The Fair will be open Thursday, April 19, 12:00noon-5:00pm and Friday, April 20, 8:00am-5:00pm. Some vendors may choose to stay through Saturday morning and will be set up from 8:00am- 12:00noon. All guests/husbands are welcome to attend the Vendor/Ministry Fair. WELCOME RECEPTION: Thursday night s Welcome Reception will be held at 8:00pm in the Atrium II area in the back of the lobby level which has been reserved for our group during this time. You will not want to miss this special time of seeing old friends and making new ones! Refreshments will be served. All guests/husbands are welcome to attend the Welcome Reception. CONFERENCE ATTIRE: Conference attire is office casual...whatever you would wear to work. Dress for Friday night s banquet is Sunday best or semi-formal. BANQUET & GUEST SPEAKER: Enjoy a wonderful meal, then sit back and enjoy Rita Sweatt, our banquet speaker. Rita is a favorite at conventions and ladies events. You can read more about her at ritasweatt.com. MISSION PROJECT: TBMA wants to help meet the ongoing needs of the Texas Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. One of the needs right now are general gift cards, like Walmart. Those in charge are handing out gift cards for food, basic needs, and cleaning supplies to those still inquiring for help. We are asking our TBMA ministry assistants to bring gift cards which will be given to Pastor Andy Barlow, the pastor in charge of volunteers. Gift cards may be for whatever amount you choose to give.

6 SESSION DESCRIPTIONS Financial Track - Dan Whitehurst The Financial Track is for Financial Ministry Assistants and other assistants handling the church s finances. By choosing this track, you are automatically placed in all sessions on Friday. Subjects to be covered in this track: Federal Tax Developments Impacting Churches, Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangements, and Charitable Contributions and Fundraising Adobe InDesign - Becky Powers Adobe InDesign is becoming the most used program for graphic designers. Learn the basics of this software to create bulletins, newsletters, booklets, and so much more. If you are new to InDesign or you just want to get a little more comfortable with it, then this class is just for you! Please the leader at powers@fbcsanangelotx.org and let her know what version of InDesign you are using and what experience you have with the program. All by Myself - Micheal Summers Do you find yourself in the office by yourself, doing every task demanded by your job? This class will cover Basic Training for MAs, providing helps to meet the demands of church members, ministerial staff, prospects, community, denominational linkages, and self-expectations. Basic CPR & First Aid - Joey Clements Need a refresher course on your CPR training or basic first aid? Want to find out how a CPR certification course can benefit you at the office and at home? This class will cover basic CPR and first aid. NOTE: This class is NOT a CPR Certification Class. Change Your Perspective...Change Your Life: A Proactive Approach to Safety, Family, and Church! - Joey Clements Do you know how to be safe in your church office? Do you know how to diffuse a volatile situation? This class will cover common dangers in business/ministry and personal settings, personal security and safety and how it affects your life, non-violent dispute resolution, threat assessment and confrontation process, basic concepts of defense, as well as other areas of safety. Church Policy and Procedures - Cecil Deadman This workshop will address 4 of the most pressing questions for which churches have requested information during the past 15 months. We will look at the needs for developing: A Church Policy Manual (what needs to be included), Church Safety and Crisis Response, How to Develop a Church Safety (Security) Team, and IRS Compliance Issues. Other issues may be addressed as time allows Conflict Resolution - Cecil Deadman Keeping all the people happy, all the time! We will look at Major Causes of Conflict, Levels of Conflict, Steps to Conflict Resolution, Leadership Styles, and Biblical Resolution to Conflict. Desktop Publishing - Cindy Stowers Make your publications have impact. Learn design and layout tips, typograph and graphics for all your newsletters, signs, mailouts, PowerPoints and even social media posts. Discovering and Meeting Needs - Michael Cook Ministry Assistants are blessed with an extremely rare and unique opportunity to identify and spot needs. Participants will discover a two-fold approach in determining needs: those that Come To us and those that are A PART of us. We will take a look at the very first biblical Ministry Assistant.

7 SESSION DESCRIPTIONS Event Planning Made Easy Tami Murphy The 5 Ps for planning an event! Come join us as we discuss effective, fun ways to plan an event. We will share tips and ideas on all areas of an event...event goals, décor, budget, menus, publicity, and much more. Exactly What Do I Do? - Terri Jones Do you plan to retire, go on vacation, or heaven forbid, what if you get sick? How will those who step into your position know what to do, how to do it, who to contact, where things are? This is where an Office Manual becomes very important. No matter what position you hold in your particular office, whether it s Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, Finance Secretary, One-Person-Show, etc., you need an Office Manual. In this class, you will learn the steps to creating your own Office Manual. Gossip: The Dreaded Tongue - Mack Roller We will address one of the most overlooked and destructive sins within the church today; gossip. This cancerous habit spreads rapidly and reeks havoc due to the juicy nature of this sin. We will clearly define gossip and discover the heart of the problem. We will learn from God s Word to battle this problem in our hearts and in our churches. Healing Hurting Hearts - Mack Roller It is impossible to go through life without being hurt by circumstances or others. When hurt happens, we have a choice to conquer it or be conquered by it. This session will focus on the healing power of scripture to overcome our hurts. We will also see how God will use us to offer healing to the broken hearted. Introduction to Zentangles - Pat Tittzer Zentangles are small pictures consisting of structured patterns. They are easy to create and require no artistic ability. Each pattern (called a tangle) consists of a sequence of simple strokes, repeated as needed to fill a section of the final image. This class will concentrate on four tangles to create your first piece of Zentangle art. Supply cost of $3.50 will provide you with a pen, drawing pencil, paper smudger, tiles (i.e. paper) and copies. I ve Got the Job...Now What? - Karen White You applied for the dream job at the church and now you have been hired, and you are wondering what now? This class will help you make sense of your new position. We will look at the unique role of a secretary in the church, the assistant/boss relationship, communication, and even look at how to deal with difficult situations. Come and discover a plan of action for your new job. Knowing Where God Wants You! - Tami Murphy As each have received a gift, use it to serve one another. I Peter 4:10 Discovering our spiritual gifts is one of the most liberating tools God gives us on knowing where and how we can best serve Him and others. Come join us as we discuss the gifts and the many ways you can use each gift to serve in your church, home, and workplace. MAs on Mission - Kerry Peacock The great German theologian, Emil Brunner, once said, A church exists by mission like a fire exists by burning. Apart from the Great Commission, this may be the greatest statement regarding mission. Mission is something we all must do. MAs are not exempt! In fact, it is the premise of this session that you have been especially chosen and uniquely positioned to further the Kingdom as you burn brightly with the fire of God s love...as you encourage and enable mission.

8 SESSION DESCRIPTIONS Now Where Did I Put That? - Karen White Does it take more than a minute to retrieve that paper for your boss? Can you immediately find that latest committee report? If not, then you need to take control of your office before it has complete control of you. We will look at desk organization, file organization, electronic organization, and even personal organization to help you become more efficient and effective as an office professional. Whether you are a new secretary or an experienced ministry assistant, this class is for you. Picture This! - Karen West Take your photography to the next level by understanding your camera s manual settings. This session will demystify photography terms and techniques related to exposure, composition and lighting. We ll learn how to apply these principles to common situations at church events and briefly cover some smartphone photography tips. (You are welcome to bring your SLR camera with you!) Pinterest Craft-Burlap Signs - Terri Jones Have you ever wondered how to print on burlap to make those cute signs and crafts? This class will teach you everything you need to know about how to print on burlap and make signs. This is a make-and-take class. All supplies will be provided with the $5 class/project fee. Playing Well with Others - Micheal Summers Discover your personality, learn how to determine that of others, and how to develop a positive relationship with those whom you serve. (Utilizes the book, Dealing with People You Can t Stand.) Step Up to Serve - Nell Collins Ever wondered what the responsibilities of an officer are? Learn some basic facts about the various positions. Learn the behind-thescenes requirements of TBMA leaders. Discover abilities you have which could benefit our organization. This Is Us - Mike & Becky Cook Pastors and their families are just like everyone else...or are they? Come join us as we take a peek in the window of a pastor s home! This session will provide ideas and strategies for ministry assistants in developing a deeper understanding of their pastor and his family. You might be surprised how your perspective changes. Transitioning from the Workplace to Retirement - Nell Collins Figure out the most satisfying way to live this stage of your life. There are distinct stages of life, each with its own qualities, and fudging these stages is to fudge the inherent value of each of them. Enjoy the tempo of a God-breathed life by letting God set the pace. Now, not yet, and waiting forever vary in meaning from one individual to another, and for that matter, from one time to another. Learn to appreciate the opportunity to look back on good memories, but be prepared to move ahead with your life during retirement. When We Pray - Aimee McGinnis Is the God of the pillars of cloud and fire and the parting of the Red Sea in the Old Testament silent today? Does He no longer move in miraculous ways in our current church age? Why don't we see Him working this way anymore? Are our prayers effective? The simple answer is yes! He is still our Mighty, Sovereign Jehovah, Yahweh, God...and He is busier than ever...and His desire is to work through us, His church...so what's wrong with us? We will look at scripture and real life examples of God's powerful voice and presence in today's world, and learn how to challenge ourselves to "ramp up" our prayer life and watch amazing miracles happen in ourselves, our families and our world so that we can be effective vessels of ministry to build His Kingdom until He comes!!
