2:3-5a Valentine s Day right around the corner has me thinking about love, so can we think about marriage for a bit? Great marriages take a lot of work, for sure.

When one or both parties realize the growing distance between them, an honest assessment usually reveals that at least for one spouse the marriage just isn t the priority that it once was.

Reestablishing the priority of marriage will go a long way toward seeing the relationship restored.

We talked about things that can cause a sense of a growing distance between us and God (Satan, the Accuser and the Father of Lies, could just be trying to steal our joy, but perhaps there is a broken

Rev. 2:3-5a Valentine s Day right around the corner has me thinking about love, so can we think about marriage for a bit? Great marriages take a lot of work, for sure. Unfortunately, it s not so uncommon to see relationships that have grown stale or have cooled off a lot. When one or both parties realize the growing distance between them, an honest assessment usually reveals that at least for one spouse the marriage just isn t the priority that it once was. A likely path to breathing new life into the marriage might be to remember how good it was at its best and go back to doing the cherished things that were once commonplace in the relationship. Reestablishing the priority of marriage will go a long way toward seeing the relationship restored. In the same way, I recently spoke with someone who said they felt like they had grown so far from God. We talked about things that can cause a sense of a growing distance between us and God (Satan, the Accuser and the Father of Lies, could just be trying to steal our joy, but perhaps there is a broken relationship with a Christian brother or sister that we have just let unattended. Perhaps there is some other unconfessed sin that has broken intimacy with the Father.) As the conversation progressed, it seemed the Lord was working in that person s heart. Intimacy with God was no longer the priority that it had been, and they asked how to recover what they once enjoyed. The answer came straight from this text: Once we have remembered what it used to be and now isn t, the next step is to turn away in brokenness from any sinful attitudes and misplaced priorities and turn back toward the Father. After that, go back to doing what you did when you first came to know Christ. Prioritize time in the Word. Set apart that sweet hour of prayer. Hunger for the fellowship of other believers. Seek to have your heart broken by the things that break the heart of God s. Restoration can be your reality. What s not to love about that? 4 FEB 2019 Women s Fellowship Ladies Lunch Bunch - Tuesday, February 12 at 11 am all women are invited to lunch at the Lyn Way in Ashland. A carpool will leave from church at 10:30 am. We will be having a Soup, Salad and Breadsticks luncheon before we introduce Paula Reeves as Women's Fellowship Coordinator and Connie Vogler as Secretary. Her father is Dallas mega-church pastor Tony Evans, and her brother is Christian entertainer, Anthony Evans. Mrs. Shirer has starred in War Room, I can Only Imagine, Be Still, and Overcomer. The simulcast will be held on Saturday, April 6th at New Hope from 8:30-4:30PM. Cost will be $35 which includes breakfast and lunch and program materials. The Healthy Congregations Workshop gives pastors, church leaders and all congregation members practical skills that bring health to a congregation so that others can be drawn to the light of Christ. Leadership will be provided by Richard Blackburn, Executive Director of Lombard Mennonite Peace Center in Lombard, IL. Registration is $25 per person (includes manual and lunch), or $335 for a couple (sharing one manual; two lunches).
