2 Sunday School // 9:00am every week Sunday School meets every week at 9:00am in graded classes for students to explore what Scripture says through Explore the Bible from LifeWay. Led by our amazing Youth Ministers, students are challenged to apply Scripture in their life weekly! It doesn t stop there! We want you as parents to be involved in what your student(s) discuss each week. Below you will find a link for the Family Connection sheet, which allows you to see what your student(s) studied and provides you questions to continue the conversation at home! For this week s Family Connection, click HERE. This past Sunday, we started our winter curriculum, kicking off in Genesis 27. Students learned through Jacob s deception of Issac and Esau that, God s grace is not dependent on good behavior. Even when Jacob tried to do things his own way, God did not abandon him. Instead, God walked with Jacob through the consequences of his own choices, molding him each step to form him into the man God desired him to be. God will do the same for each of us, molding us each step to become the man and woman he has designed us to be! This coming Sunday, we will move to Genesis chapter 28 to learn the central truth that, God reveals Himself to us, and invites us into a personal relationship with Himself. We assume we know others simply because we have spent some time with them and know some facts about them, but truly knowing someone personally requires time and attention. We must get close enough to see who that person truly is and to allow them to see who we truly are. The same is true of a relationship with God. To truly know God personally, His nearness is required. We must not think just because we ve gone to church or participated in some religious events that we know God personally. Through studying Jacob s encounter with God near the city of Luz (later Bethel), we will see that we must rely on God s nearness with every day we live. Please make every effort to encourage your student(s) to be here this week as we spend time refueling for another week out in the mission field of our schools! 2

3 / Mid/Week / Wednesdays 6:00pm - 7:30pm Each Wednesday during the school year, CB Student Ministry has Mid/Week Student worship! We kick off at 6:00pm in the Journey Room (300) with food, followed by worship, Bible study, and end each evening in the R.O.C. (the gym) with recreation. This Week s Menu : Potluck in the Fellowship Hall!!! This week, CB Students will join the congregation for potluck food, the impromptu nativity, an advent prayer labyrinth, and conclude with decorating ornaments in the Journey Room. Here s the run-down: 4:30pm-6:00pm - Food in the Fellowship Hall 6:00pm - 6:30pm - Impromptu Nativity 6:30pm - 7:00pm - Advent Prayer Labyrinth 7:00pm - 7:30pm - Ornaments in the Journey Room We have many different ministries at Central Bearden and one of those relies on our student ministry as its main volunteer contributors. Sunlight Puppeteers has been performing in Tennessee, the US, and in different countries for years. Through the creative shows, students are able to share the truths of Scripture by using puppets and songs. This is a great ministry that any student can be involved in. The Puppeteers meet in room 331 on Wednesdays at the conclusion of our Mid/Week Youth night (7:30pm - 8:45pm). The Puppeteers need extra help for their living Christmas Tree performance on December 15th in Johnson City, TN. If your student or family is interested, please contact the Parrots or come to practice THIS Wednesday at 7:30pm in room 331. If you have questions and/or want your student to get involved in this ministry, please contact Ray and Jane Parrott: 2parrott@charter.net or

4 Helping parents know how to fight for their students is a part of our partnership. We will keep you informed on what is happening for your students and give you resources through our Parents Plus program to equip you as you seek to raise a Christ-centered teenager in a society that is self-centered. >> Upcoming Parents Plus Events: Parents Plus Forum / APRIL 13, 2019 / 10a-12p << It s true, the stakes are high raising a child is a great responsibility, and parents should guide, protect, teach, discipline and nurture their kids the best that they can. But parents are sinful human beings, trying to bring up children in a sinful world. No one does it perfectly. Whether it s working too much, blowing up in anger, or forgetting picture day, parents will fail their kids. They just have to choose what to do with the guilt that naturally comes when they do. Gretchen Raley explores some simple answers to these questions and lets you know that you are not alone in these feelings. What matters is how you handle them either as a learning experience to move forward or a prison that might hold you back. Read more HERE. 4

5 >> Leaf Rapture // December 8, 2018 // 8:00am - 1:00pm << Come serve the community with us as we go our together and clear leaves from homes in the Knoxville area. The fun part? December 19th // 6:00pm - 8:00pm << Students are invited to join us for the last Mid/Week of the year! We will have a Christmas Party with Christmas themed games, a devotion and plenty of Christmas themed activities! We ask that each student bring their favorite Christmas dessert to share with everyone! Students are also encouraged to wear their ugly Christmas sweaters! >> the WKND // Friday.
