2 Thanksliving If you came face-to-face with the Lord Jesus Christ, and He asked you: Do you have one minute, each day, to write down something that you are grateful for that day? how would you respond? Imagine you are working on a project for school or your job and suddenly your screen freezes up and restarts. That project is gone, all your hard work. However, after the restart you see your project was auto saved and there it is. Or maybe you have lost something, and your stress level goes crazy, but then you find it right where you put it for safe keeping. We all experience times like these in life. Afterward, though, did you ever react by thanking God? There is a quote about the pilgrim s early life: The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. H. U. Westermayer How can we make gratitude a part of our DNA? What would it take for each of us to write down each day one thing we are thankful for? One minute each day is all it takes to start cultivating a sense of gratitude. So maybe go buy a cheap spiral notebook and put it by your bed at night. Each night before you get ready for bed, sit down and write one thing (or at least one) you are thankful for that day. If you are more of a morning person, set the notebook close to the coffee maker, and before you take that first sip, jot down something you were thankful for yesterday. This doesn t work well for me, because my memory isn t that good. So, let me put this in perspective. There are 1,440 minutes in a day. We spend many hours each day working, sleeping, playing, reading, and watching television, among other things. It only takes one minute to write down what you are thankful for that day. Make it a family activity at meal or bedtime. Let me go back to that question I started with. Do you have one minute a day to write down something that you are grateful for? 3 Operation Christmas 2018 supports "Start Right"! Our annual Operation Christmas gift-giving will benefit the Marathon County Start Right program this year! Administered through the county's Health Department, Start Right programs provide education and support services for the most vulnerable in our communities. From prenatal care and a home visit program for at-risk pregnancies, to play groups for pre-schoolers and parent education opportunities, Start Right's key focus is to promote healthy child development, nurturing, safety and resilience. Watch for the Christmas garland and gift tags in the narthex right after Thanksgiving! Throughout Advent, we'll learn about a Start Right program each week, and hear from a Public Health Nurse about how our gifts will lift up this vital local resource. Are you an early shopper? The Start Right gift tags will include disposable diapers of all sizes, baby wipes, blankets and quilts for little ones, books for infants and toddlers, baby lotions, soaps, etc. Also, gifts that will provide quality family-time activities for those who don't have financial resources for fun "extras" -- things like dominos, card games or simple board games, snack items, or gift certificates for an ice cream, rollerskating or bowling outing. Your generosity to this annual Christmas gift benefit is so appreciated! COUNCIL MINUTES Zion Lutheran Church Council met on Monday October 15, 2018 President Brenda Castellano called the meeting to order Pastor Sue led with devotions. During the meeting the council: Approved the Secretary Report. Approved the Treasurer Report.
