8 Divine Mercy Parish Page 8 at St. Philip Neri Church, 3:00 pm (not a Mass) The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives Luke 4:18 As Christians we are expected to follow Jesus and imitate His life. As we grow in our faith through reception of the sacraments, attending retreats and scripture studies, we are led by the Holy Spirit to assist others to grow spiritually. The seven spiritual works of mercy are a great guide for us: To instruct the ignorant To counsel the doubtful To admonish sinners To bear wrongs patiently To forgive offenses willingly To comfort the afflicted To pray for the living and the dead St. Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians tells us to strive eagerly for the spiritual gifts while he reminds us that all these gifts are useless unless we exercise them in the spirit of Christ-like love. If I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing faith, hope and love remain, but the greatest of these is love. Reflection by Anne-Marie Barrilleaux The Missionaries of St. Therese The Missionaries of St. Therese at Divine Mercy Parish are seeking additional members and are asking you to consider joining this parish ministry. Through prayers, contributions and donations, we are able to continue the missionary work of the church, assist clergy and religious in developing countries, as well as donations to Notre Dame Seminary and St. Joseph Abbey in St. Benedict. We also aid needy parishes in the New Orleans area develop more adequate catechetical programs and obtain religious education materials. The Missionaries of St. Therese meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Community Center. The next meeting is scheduled for February 19th.
