FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF FORT LUPTON May Circuit Rider 2017 June
Pastor's Page Submitted by Pastor Kay Dear brothers, sisters, siblings in the Mountain Sky Area, Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40: 31 (NRSV) This has been a tense week for United Methodists, particularly for us in the Mountain Sky Area, as the Judicial Council is deliberating on the question of law regarding the validity of my nomination, election, and assignment last July. Emotions vary from all perspectives; however, there is one emotion we all share: anxiety. Anxiety is high as we await the decision of the Judicial Council. This anxiety is exhausting and distracts us from essential truths of our faith: God continues to love us and call us to build up the realm of God. We anticipate the Judicial Council decision sometime this weekend. As soon as we receive word of it, we will be in direct contact with you, the people of the Mountain Sky Area. We will give you as much information as we can, with our understanding of the implications for our area. I ask that you be in prayer for the Judicial Council as they deliberate and for our beloved church. In one of his sermons, John Wesley said, Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike? May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without all doubt, we may. This is why I love Methodism we have never allowed our difference of opinion threaten our unity, because our unity is grounded in something much deeper: our love of God and God s people, which is what Jesus asks of us. May we be tenderhearted toward one another during this waiting time. May we continue to hold each other in love. Blessings, Bishop Karen Oliveto
2 Corinthians 5:17 Women s Getaway Weekend The flood of September 11, 2013 was a perfect example of a Titanic for many Colorado residents. As with any Titanic event, things will never be the exact same and that was no exception for our past Women s Retreat. We realized it was time for a new norm (as I call it) which led to the current Women s Getaway Weekend. My eyes were really opened to the fact that we have many women in our church that give and give in many ways in the support of our church, our families, and our community and they don t take enough time for themselves. These are women that I love dearly and journey with so I wanted to start the new norm by reaching out to them. Fortunately, we have reached many and are able to minister to the current group of women but unfortunately our space and resources cannot accommodate everyone. We also have found that smaller groups, such as this, builds trust with each other, helps develop real friendships, gives us a safe setting to share and work out personal faith/life issues and helps us to bond in our journey for Christian growth. Due to this, we would love to see another group get started so if you are interested in being a part of one or interested in facilitating one (or helping to get one started) then please talk to me and I would be very happy to share with you things that I find work well, share ideas with you, and support you in any way that I can. I am in the church directory or you can talk to me in person or me at mebarbma@aol.com. Blessings to you all, Barb Irsik
KIVA KIVA is a non-profit organization that Envisions a world where all people hold the power to create opportunity for themselves and others. Individuals and organizations pool their money to provide loans interest free to entrepreneurs around the world. KIVA believes that providing safe, affordable access to capital to those in need helps people create better lives for themselves and their families even in remote areas of the world. KIVA is one of the missions of our church. Through previous donations FUMC has funds available to loan to those in need. No further funding is required. As outstanding loans are repaid FUMC is then able to make further loans to entrepreneurs around the world. FUMC has made 54 loans of $100 each in 40 countries for a total amount loaned at $5,325. The default rate is very, very low. One of our recent loans is to a woman in Egypt to buy chickens and ducks so she could expand her poultry business. Another recent loan is to a small business woman in Haiti so she could connect to a solar powered micro grid to obtain electricity rather than use kerosene for lighting. The hurricane in Haiti impacted the micro grid and rebuilding is slow. There are 54 examples of how Fort Lupton First United Methodist Church is impacting lives around the world! Check out the Website at Anyone can make a loan for as little as $25.00! Submitted by: Missions Committee ========================================================================

Children s Coordinator We only have about three weeks of school left and time is coming near for CLC and Sunday school to end for the summer break. The CLC kids did a five week Lenten Study. They all received Lenten journals so they could follow the Lenten season. The study was followed by a sacred circle and ended with a prayer and a blessing. What a great experience! They ended the Lenten season with an Agape meal served by the leaders which consisted of juice, grapes, rolls, pepperoni, and cheese. While partaking of the meal, the children learned what it might have been like at the table with Jesus and His disciples. The CLC children have such giving hearts. They worked hard on a mission project for Mother s Day and Father s Day. They also worked on May Day baskets. They are a busy bunch. The kids were able to go on a small field trip. They went to a movie and saw Lego Batman. It was a blast. A special thanks to our congregation for helping make these things possible. Having Sunday school during the church service has been a wonderful move. Jesse said that he has been averaging 20 children. We still have rotation for the younger children in the nursery and the older kids are helping where needed. I would like for you to give some thought to and pray about finding a teacher for the 6 th through 12 th grade kids when we start up in the fall. My prayer would be that we could have two separate groups. If you feel that God is calling you to serve in this way please let me know. It would take place during the church service. If we could get more people interested then I could set up a rotation schedule so that you could take turns and not miss church every Sunday. The little ones, who range in nursery age to 5 th grade, will continue to do rotation Sunday school. We have a great group of teachers and volunteers for that group. Save the Date: Vacation Bible School July More information to come Thank you to all who help in many ways to make our church a church full of kids on their faith journey. A Holy life simply is a life that works. Richard Foster Blessings, SuzAnn McCrumb
Information on Scholarship Funds The first scholarship set up at First United Methodist Church of Fort Lupton was the Ruby Herbst Vocational Scholarship for Fort Lupton students. This scholarship was set up in 1970 as a memorial from Ruby Herbst family for $2, for 30 years at which time the balance would go to the church. The proceeds (interest) from the invested funds are to be used as the scholarship to be awarded each year. In 2007 the Church Council voted to continue using the funds for a vocational scholarship. This account was originally set up at Commercial Federal Bank in Brighton account # and moved to The Bank of Colorado in The Herbst Vocational Scholarship is available to any graduating senior of Fort Lupton High School who is planning to attend a community college, or a technical, vocational, or trade school. In 2009 the money was moved along with the other scholarship accounts to the Edward Jones Scholarship fund account # Sharpe-Magnie Scholarship. In the year 1987 Andy Sharp deposited two CD s at Fort Lupton State Bank for scholarships. The Sharpe and Magnie families wanted these Scholarships to be for Fort Lupton and Frederick Graduating Seniors. The fund was established to be in place for 20 years. The proceeds (interest) from the invested funds are to be used as the scholarship to be awarded each year. On December 1996, I was asked by Andy Sharpe to be on the Scholarship committee along with Ann Sandberg to be signed representatives for the certificates of deposits # for $10,000, known as the Sharpe Magnie Frederick Scholarship Fund and # for $10,000, known as the Fort Lupton Sharpe Magnie Scholarship Fund. In 1999 $ was added to the Frederick Sharpe Magnie Scholarship Fund and $ was added to the Fort Lupton Sharpe-Magnie Scholarship Fund from the Andy Sharpe estate. In 2009 the money was moved along with the other scholarship accounts to the Edward Jones Scholarship fund account # Christian Vocational Scholarship Fund by Lucile Dahlberg for a student studying to be in the Christian Vocational field. This account was set up in 1983 with original amount of $2, The Dahlberg Christian Scholarship is available to any graduating senior of Fort Lupton High School who is planning on full or short time church vocation; preparing for Missionary or Christian services and must be a member of the Fort Lupton United Methodist Church. The award will be given to the individual upon proof of enrollment. Lucile Dahlberg was a senior in High School when she attended Church Camp at Palmer Lake, Colorado. There was a meaningful Lights ceremony on the mountain and it was there that she dedicated her life to Christ. Lucile wanted to be a missionary, but the there was no financial aid available. In later life, she still had the desire and then the means to set up a scholarship that would help others attain the goal that she was unable to fulfill. Lucile has been able to show her dedication to Christ thought out her life with her faithful service to Him through her spirit for Church and Community Service. In 2003 Ann Sandberg and I, Sue Hubert elected to merge with the Endowment Committee. The Endowment Committee having the expertise of that committee to help make decisions for better investment of the funds as CD s were not doing well. In 2007 the Church Council voted to continue the Scholarships as they were for prosperity. In 2009 the CD s were cashed in and an account with Edward Jones was established with incorporating all the scholarships together to form one account, done with permission of the living relatives of the accounts. On November 9, 2009 the Church Council voted to reinvest all the scholarship money in Edward Jones. An addition to the Edward Jones account of $ was added in memory of Ann Sandberg in This account is under First United Methodist Church of Fort Lupton Endowment Chairman Scholarship Funds, account In 2015 Mike and Marilyn Bangert established a Scholarship fund account at Edward Jones account # , of $ in memory of Jim Bangert. That account was merged with the Account in The terms for the scholarship are now incorporated with the general scholarship application of Fort Lupton High School given to the students. Each year scholarships are given to students who have fill out the application and chosen by the scholarship committee: Pastor, Marilyn Bangert, Gwen Ceretto and Sue Hubert.
