1 MESSENGER Plainville United Methodist Church Rev. Russell G. Waldmann, Pastor Volume 19, no. 3 June/July plainvillunited@sbcglobal.net Website: from the Pastor One Last Time ~ Once upon a time, in a land far away called The Bronx, a boy grew up on the busy block of Marion Avenue. It was a good place then to grow up. He had many friends. Spirited games of tag and stickball, touch football and even street hockey took place. He went to the same elementary school that his older brother had attended, and that their Mother before them had gone as well. In fact, the family had lived on that street for one year short of a quarter of a century when that boy was born. There were many special types who lived there. Of all of them, remembered the most is the Grandmother of the Arnette family s children. She was a saintly woman dressed simply, hair drawn back in a bun, wrinkled skin, always smiling, always pleasant, always kind. She had a deep relationship with God. He went to P.S. 46, then Junior High 45, and then DeWitt Clinton H.S., the world s largest all-boys H.S. of its day with some 7000 students enrolled. He did well in school. He went to City College in Manhattan, where he did not do very well. But it was also at that time that his church and faith began to become very important to him. School of Theology on the campus of Emory University. He had grown up since his college days, and did fairly well at seminary, and remains ever thankful for the blessing of those three years there. His Mom never saw him preach as she died in his first year at Candler. His Dad died four months after he became a pastor. Two terrific children were born to this couple; clergy are, after all, supposed to help build the Sunday School! Six appointments have been served in a total of ten churches. And two months shy of thirty-five years have whisked away so quickly that it is almost impossible to believe that this is the last time that he will be writing an article for The Messenger. This boy from The Bronx thanks God for the privilege and for the honor of being a shepherd for the Lord. This boy from The Bronx thanks you for having Karen and me be your pastoral couple for the past ten years. This boy from The Bronx hopes and prays that more opportunities await in retirement to serve the Lord and to continue to try to make a difference. And this boy from The Bronx is confident that the touch of God, so real upon the hearts and souls of so many at PUMC, will continue to flourish and grow in and through this body of Christ. He went to work in NYC, met the love of his life four decades ago, and felt the call of God to enter into ministry. Sometimes he wonders as to just what God saw and sees in him to tap him to such a call. The young couple moved to Atlanta, GA in 1977 where he was a student at the Candler May God deeply bless you all, keep you in God s love and care, and pour out God s Spirit and grace and peace upon you. Know how much you mean to us as we wish you a blessed relationship with God one last time. Pastor Waldmann.

Will Deliver orders Walk-ins welcomed to eat at the church as well. WHERE? Plainville United Methodist Church 56 Redstone Hill Plainville, Connecticut WHEN? Friday, June 5, AM to 4 PM DONATION: $ 4.00 CONTACT: Greg Michaud or Church Office On 3/29 & 4/5 our Sunday School program participated in the RISE UP WITH JESUS Easter Event. This Easter event lifted the spirits of our children as they travel through this engaging, stationbased adventure. Centered around Luke 24:1-6, we discovered what happened that first Easter morning through fun games and activities. At each station, guests received a unique puzzle piece as they learned more details. The event culminated with an interactive drama that helped the kids put the pieces together about the mystery of the empty tomb. Children left celebrating the fact that Jesus is alive! Plus, the Rise Up With Jesus puzzles included a fun family activity for more discussion at home. Because of your support our children had fun making memories at Rise Up With Jesus! Thank You to our Event Sponsors: CHURCH OFFICE SUMMER The church office Summer Hours will begin June 8 th and end on September 7 th, The office will be closed on Mondays and be opened from 9 am to noon on Tuesdays through Fridays.
