Dear Friends in Christ, MESSAGE FROM FR. COLLINS During my homily for the weekend of July 8th, I reflected on how it has been one year since Fr. Dillon and I joined Our Lady of Victory church family.

3 Dear Friends in Christ, MESSAGE FROM FR. COLLINS During my homily for the weekend of July 8th, I reflected on how it has been one year since Fr. Dillon and I joined Our Lady of Victory church family. I also reflected on how it felt to me as though it was the day before that we joined the parish on one hand, while on the other hand, it felt as if we have been here forever. From my experience, this is mostly because of how you embraced us and welcomed us from the moment we moved into the parish. Though our time together seems to be very short, I will forever cherish the opportunity to be part of your faith journey. I will continue to hold dear to my heart the privilege to serve in your midst. Indeed, I have been enriched by your personal witness of faith, and your active involvements in making the church come alive here in West Haven through liturgical celebrations, different programs and ministries. Recently, I got a hint from the Archdiocese that Archbishop Leonard Blair would be asking me to assume the pastoral responsibility of St. Patrick s parish in Collinsville. I received an official confirmation and letter of appointment within this past week telling me that the new assignment will take effect on September 10th, I know we still have another two weeks to spend together before the move, but I want to cease this opportunity to thank you for all your supports within the past year. Thank you to Fr. Dillon and all the staff members of the parish. I will always value my time with you. May the Lord continue to bless you all and keep you close to himself. SPONSOR CERTIFICATES The Archdiocese of Hartford requires sponsorship forms in order to serve as a godparent or Confirmation sponsor. Ministry & Organizations Homebound Ministry Please, contact the rectory if you, a family member or a friend is unable to come to church. We have people to visit at home and our Eucharistic Ministers can bring Communion. Please, call us to make arrangements. Knights of Columbus Our parish Council #14326, meets the second Tuesday of every month in the hall at SJV at 7:30PM. Choir Rehearsals are in the church at OLOV. The children s/youth choir rehearse Tuesdays at 5PM. Adults rehearse Wednesdays from 7-9PM. Prayer Groups Rosary and Divine Mercy OLOV: in the church at 4PM every weekday (except legal holidays) we recite the rosary. Lord of Peace Prayer Group Our Lord of the Peace Group meets at SJV and will resume on September 7th at SJV, This group is part of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Bereavement Support Group OLOV offers A 10 week Bereavement Support Group for people mourning the death of a loved one. 9 Reflection August 26, 2018 Much is made of the people or things that we use in our life to help us accomplish the many goals and dreams that we have set for ourselves. Whether it be a job, a career, a partner for life, we tend to attach ourselves to those that seem to advance us on the path we have set for ourselves. As we grow older and mature we look back and smile at some of our unfulfilled dreams and see perhaps how silly they might have been. Some of us hold onto these dreams far beyond the reasonable expectation of them becoming a reality. Eventually at some point we latch onto what we feel is exactly what we have been looking for and devote ourselves exclusively to this particular thing. We become fully invested so to speak. St. Peter s words in today s Gospel Master to whom shall we go? echoes the sentiment of all as we travel through life. Choices are made every day. They can be simple ones such as what to eat and what to wear. From the moment we are born we seek to find ways to navigate through life and to make our way. Even as we enter our senior years we plan for events of the future, e.g. end of life planning, which is essential. We know very little about St. Peter. We do know he had the habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and even denying Christ at the most critical time. However, Peter said many things that were profound and on target. Lord you are the Messiah (Mk 8:29) A faith that was sometime naive and immature but a faith no less committed to follow Christ. Peter showed that when his faith was strong he could do miraculous things like walk on water. (Mt. 14:29) and cure the sick and bring the dead back to life. (Acts 9, 40) Peter s words today are the words we ask for all life s decisions. To whom shall we go? Peter came to this answer the difficult way, the crooked road of faith. The answer is CHRIST! As Peter s faith matured his life became transformed to be an example of Christ and bring the Gospel message to the world. The Lord replied, If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it would obey you.
