Bud Brekke SUNDAY, Dec. 2 8:30 am OLG Parishioners 10:30 am + JoAnn Spielvogel My good sisters and brothers, Often we begin Advent the Sunday following Thanksgiving. This year we had the earliest possible Thanksgiving Day, November 22, which allows for more than a week remaining till Advent. I encourage you to use the ancient custom of the Advent wreath in your home as a way to celebrate Advent. This is certainly counter-cultural since the culture begins the Christmas season the instant we rise from our Thanksgiving dinner. In fact for some retailers Christmas ads begin right after Halloween. So make your mark as a Christian, make a good Advent. Then you will be ready for the TRUE Christmas season which will go till the Feast of Jesus Baptism which in 2019 falls on January 13. If you need an Advent wreath, the parish has a very simple version available for $7. Others can still be ordered in time for Advent. With deep love and affection, Fr Bruce VOCATION VIEWS As Christians, our sole inheritance is Christ; everything else is temporal and fleeting. Let us rejoice in His calling, that we might have His strength in order to respond to the invitation to Come! Follow me. (Psalm 16) Please submit articles for our bulletin by 2:00 pm on Tuesday. Thank you! "For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." Thank you.

3 Next Week s Gospel: Luke 21:25-28, December 2nd, First Sunday of Advent Gospel Reflection: This Gospel reading might seem to be a real "downer." Just as we are beginning the new liturgical year, we hear Jesus' reminders to "be vigilant" and "pray." Advent is a time of preparation for Jesus' final coming. Jesus, the just one, who will judge us in the final days of human history, wants us to be able to stand up like true Christians when that time comes. Decide how you will show that you have heard Jesus' words on the first Sunday of Advent. Discussion Points for Gospel: Advent is a good time to ask: What does Christmas mean to me? What can I do to make this Christmas even more special? How can I allow Jesus to be even more a part of this Christmas? ADVENT CARING TREE The Pastoral Care Committee of Our Lady of Grace invites you to participate in our Caring Tree Project. The children helped by this effort are often the most needy and neglected. A Caring Tree decorated with paper ornaments will be placed in the sanctuary from November 24 through December 23. Dark Blue Ornaments benefit the children of the Fort Yates Indian Mission. Pink Ornaments benefit the Adolescent Mental Health Unit of Trinity - St Joseph s Medical Center for buying mittens, socks, etc. for young patients. White Ornaments benefit children who are victims of domestic violence. Violet Ornaments benefit God s Child Project in Guatemala (Director is Pat Atkinson of Bismarck). Light Blue Ornaments benefit Camp ReCreation for the developmentally disabled at Richardton, ND. Please take an ornament of your choice, place it in an envelope with your monetary gift, and put it in one of the Sunday collections. Thank you. By the way, your gifts are tax deductible! Parish Stewardship Needs Two or more people are needed to help move snow at our church by shoveling and blowing snow. We start at 6 am after it has snowed to clear out the doorways around the church and rectory. This is a wonderful opportunity to assist here at our church. If you are interested in performing this ministry for our parish, please contact Deacon Steve at POINSETTIAS FOR THE HOLIDAYS Christmas flowers (or donations for flowers) for Our Lady of Grace may be given by parishioners in memory of deceased loved ones or in honor of the living. Plants may be brought to the church office between December 11 th and 17th. Please make sure we have your information if you wish to have your name published in the bulletin. In memory of or In honor of From Respect Life Please join the Respect Life / Culture of Life Committee meeting on Monday, November 26 at 7:00 pm in the Dining Room. Please pray that all nations may honor Christ the King as the only Lord and giver of Life, and in His name, abolish the practice of abortion and euthanasia.
