2 What would you like to see in 2019? What personal goals, obstacles, or achievements would you like to see yourself successfully navigate? We ask ourselves questions like this every year. Whether you make New Years resolutions or not we could all agree that if given a choice we would want good things, successful things and blessings in our lives and perhaps (hopefully) through our lives. Think about the word trajectory-the path described by an object moving in air or space under the influence of such forces as thrust, wind resistance, and gravity, esp the curved path of a projectile. 1 We know objects move according to forces and their course is set or altered by forces as well. What about you? What about our church? Consider these verses. He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:15-19 The first force setting the trajectory of the Church was the truth that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the living God! Setting a Trajectory The secondary item is this revelation came from the Father. The third revelation is the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. The fourth revelation is Jesus as Christ honored as Son of the living God comes with keys to the kingdom. The keys are for binding and loosing. Jesus set up the Church for success. Remember, success to Jesus means the cross. It sure didn t look successful to the first disciples, but it was absolutely successful! If we are to continue in Jesus idea of success we must go back to the Word of God, discover the foundational doctrines of the Word, given by the Father and make corrections to our trajectory. Only Jesus as Lord can make these corrections. He is the source of truth, the source of power and the source of the perfect plan. What would you like to accomplish. What do you want for your church? Zechariah 4:6 Then he said to me, This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts. If success is by the Spirit of God then we must get a few things right to have the right trajectory. Relationship-we must rightly relate to God through Jesus Christ resulting in God giving His Spirit. This is being born-again. This is a gift we receive by faith. This sets initial trajectory. But the parable of the sower and other parables in Matthew 13 show it s not all just handed to us. There are other forces, evil forces within and without that effect our trajectory. S T E P S
3 So Paul says to the Galatians they must continue by the Spirit. You and I must learn to walk in the Spirit to keep in step with God, to accomplish His will, and to enjoy the promises of the covenant through Jesus Christ. If you wonder why things go badly remember you have flesh that strives against God and there are evil forces dedicated to see you fall and fail if they are able. I give you one promise from God s Word as you contemplate your trajectory. 2Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. In Christ you are set up for success through His grace. Partake of this grace through faith, repentance and discipline in prayer and the Word. See what God will do in you and through you! ~ Pastor Jim 1 UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS: Sunday, April 7: Sunday, April 14: Pastor Jim & Kevin Kocurek are going on a mission trip to India.
