3 Greetings to you, St. John s loved ones, Dear Sister and Brothers in Jesus, I begin with a scripture. Hebrews 3:13... you must help one another every day, as long as the word Today in the scripture applies to us. John 16:33... I have told you this so that you will have peace by being united to me. The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world! I am always so thankful for our church family. I truly believe and know that whatever comes up we have strong family support. We are a very loving and caring congestion. As fall is upon us and we look back at our fabulous rally day. We enjoyed Karen's artwork on the glass doors as well as the images for our mission statement. We celebrate the activities as the confirmation class made cookies which were sent to to Hershey Pa to Glenn Herd, North Carolina to PFC Cody Hotter and Japan PFC Jared Patton. In addition we did a book drive, collected food for the area food pantries and our children decorated tote bags with painted stamps. But now is the time that we really get going. The confirmation classes are beginning our youth group will have an activity once a month, Sarah Grabert and Kristine Fallows Will be teaching with the preschool children during the 1015 service. Or confirmation class will be held between the two services. For the month October confirmation will join with Don Graham's Sunday school class. In November we will begin to create a new pictorial directory also we will begin our cottage meetings. These college meetings are an opportunity for me to have a chance to sit down and talk about our ministries. We will have a property ministry Parish life ministry, worship and music, social ministry, Christian education ministry, stewardship ministry, and finance. I will be sharing with you the schedule and I'm hoping that you take the opportunity to come and talk about our plans, our needs and our visions. It is a very exciting time at St. John's Lutheran Church as we give God all the glory. In God's love, Pastor Amy
4 St. John s 8 th Annual Carillon (Bell Tower) Concert was held on Sat. Aug. 19 th. The weather was most accommodating. There were approximately 80 people in attendance during the event who were delighted with the concert music projected outdoors in the midst of nature. Our kitchen was open offering hot dogs, beverages, ice cream and special pretzels. Food-to-chair service with a smile was offered by Laurie Hopkins and Sharon Saylor. Thank you so much ladies for your time and energy, our visitors were most appreciative! A special thank you to Nancy Esposito and Phyllis Kogel for managing and preparing food for St. John s Soul Café. And also thank you Cornell Hopkins for being cashier. Following the outdoor portion of our concert everyone eagerly moved indoors for Name that Tune with the format geared to horror films. The scene was set within the church consisting of large theatre type posters depicting scary images and film scenes from the past. Our favorite Maestro Mark Gottesfeld appeared in black robe and hood to begin the evening of horror film tunes. And our favorite MC, Mark Bruder, appeared in black robe, hood and white mask to begin the tune thrill program. Mark G. played the music from the films throughout the evening while Mark B. gave interesting details relating to the films. Eager voices emerged from the audience with correct answers from the songs played. Correct answers were rewarded by Kyrstie Paras also adorned in a black robe and carrying a reward basket. (Thank you so much for your participation with us Kyrstie!). First the dark colored rose was given to the winner, which was in sync with the evening s theme, and a great idea to-say-the-least, followed by choice of candy. A special thank you with gratitude to Lee Felbinger for sharing his extensive collection of horror film posters setting the horror atmosphere for our enjoyment! Lee s poster art displayed during the Name that Tune segment of our concert, definitely made the evening one to remember and special for many of our visitors, - so sure! To the audience s surprise, special visitors arrived to top off the evening of horror! Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein. Frankenstein (portrayed by Rick Rogers) was in full costume head piece and all! To the delight and amazement of the audience as well, Frankenstein s reluctant bride (portrayed by Denise Rogers) appeared in wedding dress and proceeded to walk slowly down the aisle to the front of the church. There the drama unfolded where she displayed emotions and actions of the reluctant bride. Not to be deterred, the determined Frankenstein held her hand ever so tightly so that she could not flee! The audience loved it!!! A huge thank you to Rick and Denise for your courage and participation in the portrayal of Frankenstein and His Bride. You both were the icing on the cake for the evening. Many things are taken for granted, but oh so necessary, for everyone s comfort and enjoyment when an event takes place at St. John s. Another big thank you to Rick Croissette, Lynn Crouthamel and Ken Yeakel for setting up chairs outside, and to those who anonymously helped moved them back inside, or helped during the evening in some other way. Also my gratitude to Steve Walter for the placement of the signs around town referencing the date of the concert. Placement near highways and byways leading to St. John s can be a little nerve racking. Thank you again! Our gratitude and appreciation to Mark Gottesfeld and Mark Bruder for another successful and enjoyable evening during our 8 th Annual Carillon (Bell Tower) Concert! You make a great team! The involvement of all who help during, or behind the scenes, no matter how large or how small, is what enables us to continue our many events here at St. John s. Who are we? We are St. John s Lutheran Church Ridge Valley. Included within our program handed out to our visitors was a questionnaire for feedback on our concert. Comments: Happy to be here! We really enjoy the carillon and organ concert. This is the third year we have attended and we are looking forward to next year! Loved it! Coming again next year! How did you hear about the concert? Signs, newspapers, friend, and return visit. Our visitors who responded from neighboring churches included: Baptist Lansdale, St. Isidore Quakertown, United Church of Christ Coopersburg, Franconia Mennonite, Zion Mennonite, Lutheran Church Quakertown. On behalf of Mark G. and Mark B. and Church Council, a sincere thank you to our congregation and friends of St. John s for supporting our Church with your attendance at the 8 th Annual Carillon (Bell Tower) Concert. Christian Growth/Outreach and Communications (CGOC) Pat Traynor

7 July/August 2017 Social Ministry Report During the month of July and August we collected school supplies for Pennridge FISH students along with backpacks. We also collected specific school supplies for Lutheran World Relief. I am pleased to say we did a bang up job for those two organizations. Comfort Crafters made string backpacks and we were able to fill 21 backpacks for LWR! These backpacks will be distributed around the world to help educate students. When Ken and I delivered all of the school supplies to FISH the folks there were absolutely thrilled with the amount of backpacks and supplies that we donated. I want to thank those who bought supplies or donated money to have the items purchased. We donated backpacks, calculators, pens, pencils, notebooks, crayons and many other items. It is so important to give the students of the Pennridge schools a big help as they begin another year in school. On Monday, September 11 th we will begin another year of knotting quilts for LWR and Project Linus, making blankets, hats, scarves and other items for babies and children in need. Come out and join us on the second Monday of the month from 9AM 1PM. Bring a bag lunch and enjoy some fellowship along with knowing you are helping others. At this time it is not known if we will be making soup for The Quakertown Food Pantry as we have been notified that before we can make any food for the public we must have our kitchen inspected and certified. Chris Wall is looking into that matter. OCTOBER BIRTHDAY LIST We don t put the birthdays in the web version - please stop in to pick up your copy

Parish Life We resumed our study on September 6, 2017 Cornell Hopkins The Altar Guild needs help!!! We are short several people to work with the Altar Guild! What works really well is to have two people scheduled per month (or per week if we can get enough volunteers to help). It is helpful to have one volunteer for each service. The following months are where we need the most help: January: A volunteer who attends the first service to set up & clean up. February: A volunteer who attends the second service to set up & clean up. March: A volunteer that attends the second service. May: A volunteer that attends the first service. June: Volunteers that attend first and second services. October: Volunteer that attends the first service. December: Volunteers that attend first and second services. If you have any questions on the duties of the Altar Guild please contact Brenda Wall. Please prayerfully consider stepping up and helping our church. Please let Brenda Wall or Marianne Yeakel know that you are willing to help. Want to pray for or send a card or little gift to our College Students away from home?
