Frank Dillon and George Vadas led the way in organizing all the cooking, wrapping and serving; assisted by our Council Brothers and their Wives. Jack Tier and Frank Dwyer had an Information and Recruiting Tent that attracted many potential Knights. Frank Dillon and Mike McDermott Jr. conducted a 50/50 that proved very successful with Brother Randy Hare, the overall winner, who donated his winnings to our Council. Our Brothers and Council receive a big Thank You for a Job Well Done. Hosting the State Qrtly. Mtg on 29 Sept. at Walsingham Academy. Brothers Philip de Camp (Project Officer) and Terry Kramer (Deputy) led the way in organizing all the many Hosting requirements including: Set Up and Closure; Coffee and Doughnuts Bar; Admissions/Lunch/50/50; General Coordination and Response. They were assisted by at least 20 Brothers, who freely gave of their time to ensure all requirements were supported. Congratulations and Thank You for your tremendous support. We look forward to October with the Celebration of our Patron Christopher Columbus on Monday 8 Oct. and our Special Activities with Youth Awards and Appreciation on Sunday 21 Oct. St. Bede and our Open House/Potluck/Recruiting Blitz on Thursday 25 Oct. at the Parish Center. 2 Family of the Month As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live Pope John Paul II The Families of the Month are Frank Dillon and Helen and George Vadas and Tina. Frank has been the primary coordinator of our cooking and serving requirements for our many KofC dining activities. Additionally Frank and Helen support our many after Mass Breakfasts. George Vadas supplements Frank in all cooking activities and assumes primary coordinator responsibilities. Our cooking and serving is, indeed, in experienced hands! Tina is the quite, behind-the-scenes selfless volunteer, helping serve and clean up so others can enjoy our programs. George is also a principal Bingo Coordinator and acts as Music Man for our Degree Team Exemplifications. Congratulations to Frank and Helen Dillon and George and Tina Vadas! Knight of the Month He s not heavy, he s my brother The Knights of the Month are: Philip Flip de Camp and Terry Kramer Flip is our Lecturer and volunteered as Project Officer of the State Quarterly Meeting on 29 Sept. at Walsingham Academy. Terry Kramer is our Recorder and performed as the Deputy Project Officer for our many support requirements in hosting the State Meeting. Together, Flip and Terry coordinated all support requirements and responded to all fix it now efforts. They led a team of our Brothers in providing outstanding support for the State Quarterly Meeting. Brothers Flip and Terry THANK YOU! I will be glad to follow up and assist in completing the invitations that you initiate. The Council will host an Open House on Thursday 25 October at the program meeting NOTE IT STARTS AT 6:30 PM Brother Greg Ballentine, Newly ordained permanent Deacon will discuss his path to the Deaconate and we will have a pot luck dinner All are welcome Bring your family, friends, a dish, and your brotherly love to share. Proceeds from the sale of the cards will be used to support our Seminarians. We have new designs this year, so please stop by our table in the Commons. Sales will continue through the first week in December. We won t have a special sign up list, but asked that before and after each Mass you stop by our table in the Commons to help with card sales. We will also be collecting donations to support the Wounded Warrior Program. If you would like make a donation checks should be made payable to Father Rizer Council 6828, with Wounded Warrior in the memo line. Your donation can be made at the church or mailed to Bart Crews, 3112 Windy Branch Drive, Toano, VA Thank you for supporting this patriotic appeal. 5 Current scholarship traces the development of the Rosary to the month of October and each year the Church dedicates the month to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. It was instituted to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful. The feast was introduced by Pope St. Pius V ( ) in the year 1571 to commemorate the miraculous victory of the Christian forces in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, The pope attributed more to the "arms" of the Rosary than the power of cannons and the valor of the soldiers who fought there. We will gather by Our Blessed Mother in the Memorial Garden to the Unborn to recite a Rosary for Life with prayers for the end of abortion and a true commitment to the dignity of life from conception to natural death, 10 am on Weds Sept. 26 th, October 3, 10, 17, 24 th and 31 st. Or plan on saying the Rosary as a family For the success of 40 Days for Life, for an end to abortion; for Religious Freedom; Here are some prayers to read before reciting the Rosary Opening Prayers Heavenly Father, during this time of world crisis, let all souls find their peace and security in Your Divine Will. Give each soul the grace to understand that Your Will is Holy Love in the present moment. Benevolent Father, illuminate each conscience to see the ways that he is not living in Your Will. We pray for those who feel threatened and overwhelmed by their pregnancy. Intercede for them, that God may give them the grace to say yes and the courage to go on. May they have the grace to reject the false solution of abortion. May they say with you, "Be it done unto me according to your word." The Free Throw Championship will take place on a January Saturday morning at Walsingham Academy s Chismer Gym in a Best- of- 15 Shootout. In the past several years, Fr. Rizer Council champions have advanced to the follow- on District competition in February and on to the Best- of- 25 State Championship in Richmond in March! Fr Abe announces new Pro-Life Grant at Quarterly Meeting in Williamsburg 22 of these Billboards are going up across Virginal Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake Our past Chaplain and current Associate State Chaplain, Fr. John Abe, announced at the State Quarterly meeting held here in Williamsburg that the Richmond Diocese Office of Justice and Peace awarded a $25,000 grant (to Council and his parish and other pro-life organizations on the south side) to put up 22 Prolife Billboards like the one shown above during the month of October. These are great because they bring an element of the Pro-Life message that has been missing - THE DADs. We are looking into the possibility of getting them on the peninsula or at least in the Daly Press. Let us know what you think! 7
