WE INVITE PEOPLE of every age, race, marital status, sexual orientation, means, ability, and spiritual tradition to join with us in the love of God and neighbor: through worship, dedication to education, and commitment to service. ACCESSIBILITY Large print bulletins, children s bulletins, & hearing devices are available from ushers. ASL is available at the 11:00 service. All-gendered handicap accessible bathrooms are throughout building. The elevator is in the Narthex. There is a ramp at the West end of the building for access to the lower floor. NURSERY CARE Nursery care for infants through first grade is available from 8:30am to 12:30pm every Sunday in rooms 130, 127, and 126 (our crib room). We encourage children in 2nd grade to worship with their families. Children s bulletins and bibles are available in the Narthex. PRAYER BOOK A prayer book is placed in Narthex before worship services. You may write prayer requests to be read during the Prayers of the Church during worship service. Please get permission before using another person s name. CHILDREN AND FAMILIES We welcome families with babies and toddlers into worship. Rocking chairs are available at the back of the sanctuary for your comfort. If your child needs space to roam, privacy to nurse, or a bathroom with a changing table, you may go to the Family Parlor, directly across the Narthex. 3 *PRAYER OF CONFESSION From the very start, you have loved us, God. But there are times and circumstances in our lives when we re not always so sure where your love is. When things become really tough and sometimes wonder where you are, losing our sense of hope that your love will always be there. No matter where we are today feeling hopeful or facing despair let your fountain of life flow anew in our lives: bringing us and our deserts to life, watering our lives in their thirsty places. We pray in your powerful name. Amen. *ASSURANCE OF GRACE God s steadfast love fills the cosmos. It beckons us to take refuge, and comforts us in though times, so draw near. You are in the right place. This is the house of love. You are accepted no matter what. God is the Fountain of Life the fountain that waters our thirsty lives! *SUMMARY OF THE LAW Our Lord Jesus said: You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. *PASSING OF THE PEACE The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. 3 3

CHILDREN S BLESSING Children are welcome to stay in the Sanctuary for the entire worship service. We encourage them to use the worship activity bags, bibles, and storybooks available in the Narthex. Children in first grade and younger may go downstairs to the nursery; infants through 2 year olds are cared for in room 130; 3-7 year olds in room 127. The Family Room, just across the Narthex, is also available for families and you can hear the service from there. 8 WHAT S HAPPENING ADULT FORUM Sunday, January 27 at 10 am in the Assembly Hall Pastor s Forum: hosted by Pastor Cameron to reflect together on our faith in light of Sunday worship. WE NEED YOUR HELP For years we have been supporting the IFC Community Kitchen by proving casseroles to feed our community. This month, our casserole freezer is running low. Please find a pan on the table outside the Family Parlor and bring it back with your favorite casserole recipe. Thank you for all the support. MYSTERY PAL SIGNUP Mystery Pals is starting! This is a mystery letter exchange program with the 5th Grade Sunday School class. The exchange will begin on Sunday, January 27, and continue until March 17 at which time we will have a party and everyone will meet their Mystery Pal. If you would like to be a Mystery Pal contact the Mystery Pal Coordinator Ron Johnson at rgj5823@yahoo.com or (voice or text messages). UNITED CHURCH PRESCHOOL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS NOW FOR It is not too early to check into our fabulous preschool for your 2-4 year old for next school year. UCCH members do receive priority enrollment, but only if you apply by February 28th. PRAYING FOR EACH OTHER We do care for each other by praying, visiting, and sending cards to our congregation when in need. 9 WHAT S HAPPENING, CONT. LIGHT UP YOUR WINTER Wednesdays, January 23, 30 and February 6. Dinner at 5:45pm, and programs start at 6:30pm. Fundraising Dinners: On January 23 the Chapel Hill Carrboro Peacemaking Scholarship Committee will host the Light Up Your Winter dinner. The proceeds will benefit the Chapel Hill Carrboro Peacemaking Scholarship. On the menu they will have Middle Eastern Vegetarian Lentil Soup and an African Groundnut Stew with breads from different parts of the world. On January 30 the UCCH Sanctuary Team will host the Light Up Your Winter fundraising dinner. Proceeds will benefit the UCCH emergency assistance fund for immigrants who are facing deportation issues or hardships related to their documentation status. A Honduran meal will be served consisting of Chicken with Rice, Black beans, Coleslaw, Fruit cup, Sweet breads, Coffee, tea, and lemonade. Help them support those among us who have fled abusive governments, violence, and extreme poverty. Programs: Sacred Space Art Studio- Downstairs art classroom Painting with artist Claudia Galvez. We ll spend the next 2 weeks recreating a beautiful painting by Claudia Galvez. On the last week of the series, we ll have a speed painting class led by Rinnie Orr. Sacred Space arts will also offer 4 Wednesday night art classes especially for children! We will do a pottery project the first week then make a winter painting and sew a pillow. Book Discussion of Reconstructing The Gospel - Family Parlor Led by Bill Murray. This class is a prelude to having the book author, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove come to UCCH for 5 sessions in March. Open to all. The Gospel as Story Telling- Room 235 Led by Mike Shannon. Every human community has its stories, but the stories of the Bible have a special distinctive meaning. When our stories are connected with the stories of God, there is revelation. By telling these stories, God and Christ not only become present and speak to us, but they become present and speak to others. Class is full. Peacemaking Close to Home- Room 229 Led by Jack Denniston & members of the UCCH Peacemaking Scholarship Committee. Topics: how UCCH is recognizing and encouraging young peacemakers through the Chapel Hill Carrboro Peacemaking Scholarship initiative, national initiatives currently working successfully on a critical and timely aspect of peacemaking depolarization, and strategies and skills for having productive conversations across the political divide. These discussions are open to all. 9
