It would seem that Spring was a long time in coming, but, here it is, right on time! Everything that was hidden under the snow is revealed. Yes, the garbage and the leavings of the winter are revealed, but so are the green sprouts that hold promise and hope. Nature has a profound way of reminding us of some gospel truths. All that seemed to be lost, is not lost but created anew, All the naked branches will soon break forth into life, The cold that seemed never ending gives up its power to the warmth of the sun. Nature reveals the glory of God. Nature reminds us of the promise of New Life. Nature announces the presence of God in ways never imagined. Look around in these glorious days and remember God s promise and how you have been brought to life in Christ. There is still room on the Pilgrimage, and it is time to let us know you will join us. The Centre for Social Justice and Good Works continues to work with community agencies to create a merciful and Just place for all our people. Children are preparing for First Eucharist. Preparations are well under way for the Aboriginal Celebration Easter Blessings Fr. Hamish here at the Cathedral May 31. Enjoy these glorious days. 4 Page 4 Precious Blood Cathedral Knights of Columbus Knights and Friends Reunion Stag to be held on Thursday, April 30, at the Grand Gardens on Dennis Street from 7pm-Midnight. Pasta and meatballs will be served. Tickets are $15.00 and are available from Otto Volpe, , or John Komhyr, Proceeds to the Alzheimer s Society. Another successful Pasta & Meatball Supper was held on April 7 with 105 people in attendance, as well as many coming for take-out dinners. The next pasta supper will be held on Tuesday, May 5 at the Grand Gardens on Dennis Street from 5 to 7 p.m.. Hope to see you there. Catholic Women s League Snowflake Bazaar: We know this is early talking about the bazaar but before we know it the time will be here. We are asking your help again this year in supporting us as you have done in the past. We are calling on all knitters, crochet, sewers, quilters and of course bakers to make our bazaar a success. Our bazaar will again be held in November so that gives all of us ample time to be creative and donate what we can. Thank you. Blood Donor Clinic: Thank you to the ladies who worked at he Blood Donor Clinic. If you would like to be involved and help with this please call Louise at We are scheduled to help out every two or three months. Verdi Luncheon: We thank all those who made the Luncheon for the Mentally Challenged Adults Luncheon successful by donating sandwiches and squares. The Verdi coordinator informed us that they were so pleased and a good time was had by all those who attended. By doing such a small gesture puts a smile on many faces. Bi-Annual CWL Mass: Will be held on Saturday May 2nd at the 5 pm Mass. There are still some vacant spots that need to be filled. 8 Third Week of Easter On the Third Sunday of Easter, Luke's Gospel has the very human story of Jesus' appearing to the disciples after the Resurrection, inviting them to touch his hands and feet to see that he is real. He ate with them and he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Saturday is the Feast of Saint Mark, Evangelist. In our first readings from Acts of the Apostles this week, we read of one of the earliest martyrs, Stephen and of Philip converting an Ethiopian slave along the road. Also this week is the story of Saul, persecutor of Christians being blinded and then healed by Ananias in the name of Jesus. The week ends with Peter traveling the region and healing. The gospel for this week is from Chapter 6 of John's Gospel on Jesus as the Bread of Life. Like so many stories in this gospel, Jesus teaches from one layer of understanding to another, taking us deeper into understanding his gift of himself to us in the Eucharist. Jesus says, Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life. The bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him. This marvelous dialogue ends with this exchange with his disciples: Jesus then said to the Twelve, 'Do you also want to leave?' Simon Peter answered him, 'Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.' For the Fourth Sunday of Easter we reflect on the Paschal Mystery more deeply. Psalm 118 says, The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. Peter quotes this psalm in preaching that the crippled man was healed, In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. In John's Gospel, Jesus tells us, A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. **********
