We are calling on all ladies or gentlemen who bake, sew, knit, quilt, crochet or have articles for baskets, to join in helping us make this a success. We could still use the assistance of a few ladies to help sell baking, preserves, etc. at the Fall Harvest on Sat. Sept. 20 and Sun. Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a reminder for anyone donating goods to bring them to St. Jerome s Parish from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fri. Sept. 19. EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY After the 9:00 am Mass each Sunday, Bernard Doran will bring communion to residents of ARCH. If you have any friends or family members in ARCH that you would like to receive communion, please contact Lisa in the Parish Office at or Bernard Doran at R.C.I.A. 4 Page 4 Precious Blood Cathedral The Journey Garage Sale and Fall Harvest will be held on Saturday, September 20 th and Sunday, September 21 st, 2014 from 8:00am to 2:00pm, indoors, at the St. Jerome s Church Parish Hall (The Rev. Buchheit Hall) at 26 Carmel Rd. Please participate by donating your garage sale items to the Journey, such as: collectibles, coins, jewelry, household items, paintings, camping and musical instruments. (PLEASE NO CLOTHING OR LARGE APPLIANCES) and FALL HARVEST items, such as baked goods, preserves (jams, jellies, pickles, etc.) and fresh vegetables from your gardens. Garage Sale items will be received at St. Jerome s Parish Hall from 3:00pm to 5:00pm each day from Saturday, September 13 th to Friday, September 19 th. Fall Harvest items will be received at St. Jerome s Parish Hall from noon to 5:00pm on Friday, September 19 th. Journey Lottery Winner September 6 Richard Tremblay ARISE Program 2014 Fall Session In the Footsteps of Christ You are invited to inquire about the Fall Session which will begin the week of October 12, The series consists of 6 1 hour sessions, and are held at Sacred Heart Centre or in the home of a group member. The groups consist of 5-10 people. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance our faith-life and to get to meet with and know fellow parishioners. About 70 members of our parish are currently involved and your participation would be most welcomed. Should you consider forming a small group among your own friends, please contact Bernard Doran at or complete the Enquiry Form (found in Ste. Anne s Room) and place it in the collection plate or bring to the parish office. Social Justice Retreat: A Development and Peace Social Justice weekend is being held Friday evening through Sunday noon, October 17, 18, 19, 2014 at the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre, Espanola. The retreat will be facilitated by Anthony Chezzi. The weekend will focus on a spirituality of social justice & development of an action plan for our parishes & schools to help bring us in greater solidarity with the people of the Global South. A special session is scheduled for youth. Cost (includes 6 meals & 2 nights lodging): Adults $135 ($150 after Oct. 3); Youth $45 ($50 after Oct. 4). 8 Twenty-Fourth Week of Ordinary Time For the Twenty-Fourth week in Ordinary Time, instead of the regular readings, we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. John's gospel offers us the powerful words of Jesus, For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. Monday is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, with its own special readings. Tuesday is the Memorial of Saints Cornelius, Pope, and Cyprian, Bishop, Martyrs. Saturday is the Memorial of Saint Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Priest, and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang, and Companions, Martyrs. In our first reading, Paul's wonderful First Letter to the Corinthians continues to feed us with powerful messages about good community behavior, the Eucharist and the mystery of the Resurrection. We experience more of the beauty of Luke's Gospel this week. Jesus heals the slave of a Roman officer, praising the officer's faith. He encounters a widow whose only son had died. He was moved with pity and raises the son from the dead. Jesus tells the people how inconsistent their responses are. At a dinner, Jesus encounters a weeping, sinful woman who washes his feet with her tears. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. We hear that Jesus is accompanied by a group of women who provided for them out of their resources. Jesus tells the parable of the sower to a large crowd of listeners. and breaks it open for his disciples. For the Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time we receive the powerful parable about the landlord who represents God's way of caring for us. Though workers go out into his vineyard at various times of the day, he pays them all the same. When they grumble, he simply explains that he desires to be generous. How this can change our view of God and our own sense of justice? **********
