Glad Tidings Trinity Episcopal Church Ossining, New York Volume 17 Number 8 September 2018 RETURNING & BLESSING All the world is God s own field, fruit unto His praise to yield; Wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrow grown. First the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear; Grant O harvest Lord, that we wholesome grain and pure may be. Someone recently told me that August is the Sunday of the year. I guess they meant that the fun is up and now we press our noses to the grindstone. But for me, the end of August also means gratitude. The growing things which have been planted and have matured are about to be gathered in. Yes, Fall means a return to regular work but in this season our new beginning is blessed by God s abundance. We have time...the whole school year lies ahead. If we are lucky, we have energy...for the restfulness of Summer has just renewed us... And in this area, we have the change of season with its color and brisk temperatures which can inspire us to remember God s presence and power in this, His creation. So, welcome back, back to the predictable rhythm of Fall, back to the familiar faces of friends, coworkers, and neighbors, and back to the pews of your parish home. This is the season to reflect on the beauty of the familiar and to relish it. And this month as we settle back into our church patterns of choir, Sunday school, The Path Bible study, Tuesday healing services, and faithful church attendance, I pray that God may grant each of us appreciative eyes so that we may see abundance all around and so that we may grow ourselves to be wholesome and pure grain to nourish all whom we might meet. Welcome home...i look forward to seeing you all. God s blessing, Cooper+

ANNE HALLOWELL OBUCK Born July 9, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Walter Hallowell and Anne Dorman Hallowell, Anne spent her early years in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge, the shores of Breezy Point, Queens, and on the streets of Manhattan where she honed her skills in photography. She often spoke of fond memories visiting her maternal grandfather s house, John Dorman, who was New York City s Fire Commissioner, She graduated Marymount Manhattan College, New York, NY with an English Major. She married Robert M. Obuck on April 22, 1972 and moved to White Plains, NY. She lived with her husband and raised her two children, Suzanne Obuck and Christopher Obuck, in Pleasantville, NY. She always loved books and held a long career in the publishing industry chiefly as a Production Manager. In more recent years she moved with her husband to Ossining, NY where she found a warm and welcoming community. Since moving to Ossining she became an avid volunteer serving many roles such as reading to children and serving Phelps Memorial Hospital. At Phelps Hospital she first served in the Silver Spoons Program, feeding patients who required assistance. She later served as a patient advocate ensuring the best care for In-Patient Services. However, her longest held and favorite role was as part of the hospital Chaplain s office. Whenever she met a patient with a Bible on the nightstand, she knew she would have a good conversation. A life-long Roman Catholic, she converted to the Episcopal Church later in life and loved to share her faith with others. She is survived by her husband, Robert M. Obuck, her children Christopher Obuck and Suzanne Obuck, her sister, Elizabeth Valentino, and her brother Lincoln Hallowell. She is predeceased by her brother Walter Hallowell. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the name of Anne H. Obuck to Phelps Hospital, Development Office, One Phelps Lane, Suite 106, Sleepy Hollow, NY or donate directly via their website:

AN UPDATE FROM THE SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE On behalf of the 150 th Anniversary committee, I would like to invite everyone to save October 21 st on their calendars. After church, we will be convening at The Briars Restaurant on North State Road in Briarcliff for a Gala Brunch celebrating our Parish family. Start time is noon, there will be carpools forming at Trinity for anyone who would not like to drive. The menu will include eggs and breakfast meats, waffles, home fries, French fries, chicken francaise, tilapia, penne a la vodka, roasted veggies, and salad. Coffee, tea, and water are included. Alcoholic beverages are available at an additional cost, and our signature beer, Trinity's Smoky Brown Thurib-Ale, brewed by 6 Degrees of Separation, will be available again! Tickets are $35 per person. Since it is imperative we have a headcount for the restaurant, please RSVP no later than Wednesday October 17 th in person to any member of the committee (Mo. Cooper, Tam Hernández, Kate Pendzuk, Sally Evans, Chris Fasulo, Cecilia Quintero and me) or us at trinityossining@gmail.org to let us know how many will be attending. Checks can be written to Trinity Episcopal Church and given to any committee member or placed in the collection plate with a note on the memo line, or in an envelope with a note. Financial assistance is available to anyone who would like to attend, but cannot afford a ticket (speak to Mo. Cooper). We hope you and your loved ones will be able to attend. Sincerely, Alexis Cullen, Chair
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR MINISTER OF MUSIC I hope that your summer was restful, relaxing, and rejuvenating. I personally am ready for the heat to skedaddle! Bring on the cold weather! ( I bet Mo. Cooper thinks I'm crazy right about now.) It was exactly one year ago that I packed up all my things in DC, turned in my keys, and took a Greyhound bus to NYC in anticipation of my tenure at Trinity. My, how the time flies. You may wonder if I miss DC. Honestly, I do not. Five years there had been long enough. I needed to return to my home - New York - and to fulfill my calling as your Minister of Music. Change. For so many it's a bad word. This past year, we've seen many changes at Trinity - and I hope that they've all been for the better. That has been the goal, and I hope we have achieved it. I would like to know if you are feeling musically and spiritually fulfilled. I would also like to know if there are ways in which I have failed to fully minister to your needs. St. Paul s has spent several weeks this summer singing favorite hymns of the congregation. I would like to have a "hymn sing" at Trinity in the upcoming weeks, and I need your help. Please think of your favorite hymn, and let me know. On September 8 th, as part of the celebration of Trinity's 150th Anniversary, we will be recognizing the community organizations that make Ossining such a special place with music, certificates, and a reception. All of the music chosen has the themes of friendship and appreciation. I do hope you will attend. As always, musically yours, Christopher Fasulo Minister of Music
On Saturday, October 6 th, the Briarcliff Congregational Church will be hosting a Crop Walk to End Hunger. The 3-mile walk will act in three parts: 1. To raise awareness about hunger in Westchester County; 2. To raise money for local and global food pantries through Church World Service; 3. To bring the community together to celebrate the work God is doing to address hunger needs. Registration/check in is at 12:30 PM at Beebe Hall, 30 South State Road, Briarcliff. The walk will begin with an opening prayer and then walkers will proceed toward the Post Office, down past the Youth Center, into the woods and back into Law Park. Three loops of this route will complete the walk which will be celebrated at Beebe Hall with a presentation and party at 2:00 PM with the Bossy Frog Band! 25% of the money raised will go directly to the benefit of the Ossining Food Pantry. To find out more about CROP WALKS visit Volunteers from the community are needed to facilitate the walk. Carl Gonsalves will be organizing the team from Trinity. You can contact him at carlgonsalves7@gmail.com. In addition, people who have gifts of publicity, handing out water, and posting signs are invited to contact Rev. Farnsworth at your earliest convenience. His contact is: briarcliffchurchpastor@gmail.com
WELCOMING SUNDAY: SEPTEMBER 16 TH The choir will be back and we will be singing our favorite hymns (see Chris Fasulo s Message from Your Minister of Music). And, as is our tradition, we will celebrate the beginning of the Fall season with a picnic. Trinity provides the burgers, dogs, and buns and the chef! We bring our favorite sides and desserts. Be sure to mark your calendar, set your alarm, and join your Trinity family in worship and fellowship! The summer is coming to an end and the end of the year will be here before we know it. With that in mind, our Treasurer, Kate Pendzuk, wants to remind us about checking our pledges. She will have a list and can let you know if needed your balance. Or you may call or her (treasurertrinity@gmail.com). Statements for the 3 rd Quarter will be mailed the first week in October.
October Will Soon Be Here Which Means No more hazy, hot & humid days!!!! We have our next TBC date: Sunday, October 28 th While I had seriously considered Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders, a bestseller which is described as historical fiction magical realism, a perfect choice for Halloween reading; I changed my mind at the 11 th hour. It is a challenging read! I will leave it on the list of possible books for the future. Our next book is..killers of the Flower Moon It is a page turner and a very dark, true story! iew=detail&mid=fd7d7a12fd6eef1dc2d0fd7d7a12fd6eef1dc2d0&&form=vdrvrv Hope you can join us as whether or not you have read the book!
