While this was surprising news, for us United Methodists it is not shocking news, and we know God is in it. Debbie and I are truly sad to be leaving you, our family here at Main Street, but we are excited about the new family we will certainly find at Center Chapel. Please keep Debbie and me in prayers during this time of transition, and know that we are keeping you in prayer. Also I would ask that you would keep the Center Chapel church, which is just north of Muncie, in your prayer. They have told me they are doing the same for you they understand what you are going through. With all that said, our time of ministry here with you is not finished and I am truly embracing our next few months together, beginning with the season of Lent. Main St. United Methodist Church 19 E. Main Street Spaghetti Supper Saturday, March 10 - Free Will Donation- For more information please contact 574/ Menu -Spaghetti with meat sauce -Toss salad -Garlic Bread -Dessert Carry Outs Available A while back I began praying about what this Lenten season would look like for us here at Main Street. At that time I was led to the Upper Room Discourse in John s Gospel chapters The title that then came to mind was Last Conversations. Remember all of this was well before I had any inkling of this move for us. Some call these things coincidences, I see them as Godincidences, but certainly all this has brought some new revelations for us (see Judybeth s God s Wink for some insight into new revelations another God-incidence). I personally have been encouraged by John s words about Jesus at the beginning of this text: Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end (Jn. 13:1). It is my desire to love you to the end, but then I realized what this end meant. For us who follow Christ the end is not the end but a new beginning resurrection! Yes, we long for physical resurrection, the first fruits we have already seen in Jesus, but for us the resurrection life is not something we wait for it is to be a present reality. Paul said, I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection (Phil. 3:10). Our ends bring about new beginnings! In this newsletter is the poster for the upcoming Lenten to Easter Series. I pray that you will participate with me in this series through your prayer, your presence, and your ponderings. I invite you to commit to praying daily and specifically for this series that we will discover God s new beginnings. I also ask you to be present during our times of worship, and to invite someone else to be present with you. If you can t be present, let us know and we can send you a DVD or a written copy of the sermon. Finally, I ask you to ponder with me; read and re-read (Continued on page 2)
2 Page 2 Page 11 (continued from page 2) John 13 through 17 asking God to lead you to new revelations each time then share them with someone. Once again, the series is entitled, Last Conversations: Talking with Jesus in the Upper Room. This is not the end, it s a beginning! March Beginning Again in Christ, Pastor Damon Mission For The Month of February: McCurdy School The loose coin mission for February is the McCurdy School of Espanola, NM. They exist to support children, youth, parents, community and church in the Espanola Valley, to fulfill the education and well-being of children and youth and support families. Their motto is: Sharing the love of God through education and mission. Mission For The Month of March, Bashor Children s Home The loose coin for March is the Bashor Children's Home near Goshen, IN. Bashor Children's Home is a non profit child welfare agency affiliated with the United Methodist Church. They provide help for troubled children and their families through residential care, day treatment/alternative education, foster care, and many other services. Bashor has become a regional provider for services over the last 80 years and works with over 150 children daily from 22 counties and 3 different states. The Mission Committee and the United Methodist Women are joining together for a year long mission project. We are going to be collecting items to go into the shoe box project. We are asking the congregation to help with this very worthwhile mission project. All items for children that will fit into a shoebox will be accepted. We will also take donations, as there is a charge for each box to ship. No perishables, please. These will be packed for shipping in November. There will be a box in the foyer. Thank you in advance with your help with this project. God s Wink This Too Shall Pass (Again) Page 3 How many times do we learn the same lesson? Or, do we just keep learning new revelations about the same thought? I ve discovered it s the latter. I liken it to the way God teaches us in the Bible. He tells the same thing over and over each time in a different way. Perhaps the same lesson, yet using different stories with different characters in different contexts, until eventually we get it. But, do we get it in its entirety? We think we do, but there is always more to the story, as Paul Harvey used to say on his radio show. As God allows me to be placed in unknown waters, I begin to understand and depend on His stories even more. In some fashion they all apply to me and to you. Pay attention dear ones. Your trials will soon pass. Even though you think they will never end they will. This world will end and you must be prepared. God says throughout His stories, repent (often), pray (continually), believe in His Son (faith). This world is temporary it too shall pass. Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word will never pass away. Matthew 24:36 But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. Judybeth Dearest Abba, Not only am I a child again in my frailty of age, but I am also as a child in your eyes. My heart aches today, Father. You know why. I trust in you to calm the waters. I trust you to lead me forward and to give me an abiding hope and a peace that is beyond understanding. Yes Father, even though I know this will pass, I still am heartbroken. I hold onto your words for comfort. Because of your love, I know the sun will shine again. This too shall pass. I pray to you in the name of your precious Son, Jesus, my Lord. Amen. Greetings From The Hi loved ones! You are dear to my heart, so I decided to do a friendship news letter As Proverbs 18:24 says, those who have friends must show themselves friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Blessings In Christ Becky I

6 Page 6 Finance Notes: RE: FUND ACCOUNTING from Patty Carter, Chair COF 2/18 Last year our church had, beside the General Budget/Operating Fund, 20+ other active Funds. These funds are designated funds which the donor has asked that it go to a specific purpose. The church s COF must use it only that way and not for other bills or expenses. They are as follows: Mission Funds Missionary Fund Open Mission Fund Loose Coins Good Samaritan Fund Mission Trip/Red Bird Holiday Baskets UMCOR Program/Ministries Funds Family/Youth/Children Fund Camp Fund Scholarship Funds Board of Trustees Building/Maintenance Fund Furnace/AC Fund* Reserve Fund Administrative Funds Memorial Fund Other Funds Prayer Quilts Wedding Bibles Gideon Special Flowers Special Literature Special Events Fundraisers: Spaghetti Dinner, Pork Roast, Chicken Noodle, Bazaar, Rummage/Bake Sale, Red Bird, Tithe, F/Y/C & Furnace/AC, Bldg Maintenance To pay off the Furnace/AC statement by the end of the year was possible by the support of our church family and we want to thank you for generosity. God is good all the time and all the time God is good. We welcome Stan Sanders, Georgette Beatty, and Tonya Prouse to the Committee of Finance. The Discipline provides for the committee on finance to be made up of people who --- by virtue of other leadership responsibilities link the committee to other areas of congregational life. Rummage Sale Update Jerry Ann and Myra want to again thank all of those who helped in anyway with this past year s Rummage Sale. When we decide what to spend the money on we looked into some things that needed done, because God expects us to keep his building in good shape. The rummage sale proceeds were spent on the following: Carpet was cleaned in the sanctuary; the walk out from the kitchen door will be replaced; and a small awning will be installed over the kitchen door. All remaining money will go to the mission fund. 2018Women s Lenten Breakfast Each Saturday morning during Lent we will start with a continental breakfast at 8:00am served by the host church. The service will start at 8:29AM and feature a speaker especially chosen for that morning.
