And also with you. Call to Worship Welcome to the celebration! We have come together to give thanks and offer praise. We are the people of God gathered here in this place to give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy every day. We come together to worship God, our Creator, the giver of every gift, and the source of every blessing. We lift our voices in song, we listen to the good news, and we will respond to the love of God. Welcome to the celebration! Thanks for God s Work Through Our Hands For Those Who Protect: L. Almighty God, we give you thanks and commend to your gracious care all the men and women protecting your people. C. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace. L. Strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils that surround them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C. Amen Celebrating and caring for ALL people! ALL people!

2 For Those Who Feed: L. God, our creator, you have ordered seedtime and harvest, sunshine and rain. C. Grant that the people of this and every nation may give thanks to you for food, drink, and all that sustains life. L. May we use with care the land and water from which these good things come; and may we honor the laborers who produce them; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. C. Amen For Those Who Work: L. Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ dignified labor by sharing our toil. C. Guide with your justice all in the workplace, so that they may never value things above people, or surrender honor to love of gain or lust for power. L. Prosper all efforts to put an end to work that brings no joy, and teach how to govern the ways of business to the harm of none and for the sake of the common good; through Jesus Christ our Lord. C. Amen. For Those Who Heal: L. Merciful God, your healing power is everywhere about us. Strengthen those who heal; give them courage and confidence in all they do. C. Encourage them when their efforts seem futile or when death prevails. Increase their trust in your power even to overcome death and pain and crying. L. May they be thankful for every sign of health you give, and humble before the mystery of your healing grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. C. Amen Please come forward with the object symbolizing God s work through your hands during the hymn and place it in front of the altar table Hymn of Thanks Come Ye Thankful People, Come Verses 1 & 2 (see next page) For Those Who Teach: L. O God, source of all goodness: we give you thanks for the opportunity of education. C. Bless those who teach others, that they may do so in safety to challenge the minds of all who wish to learn. L. Grant that school staff and students may work together in mutual respect and find joy in the challenges of academic life; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C. Amen. For Those Who Care: L. Ever-living God, strengthen and sustain your servants that with patience and understanding, they may love and care for your people. C. Grant that together they may follow in the way of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

3 For Those Discerning How to Serve: L. Almighty and eternal God, you abide in all who are in the discernment process and work to heed your word and work in their lives. So draw their hearts to you, so guide their minds, so fill their imaginations, that they may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated unto you; and then use them, we pray, as you will, but always to your glory and the welfare of your people. C. God of justice, guide the people of this land so to use our hands and gifts in service to others, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 4 Prayer of the Day Almighty God our Father, your generous goodness comes to us new every day. By the work of your Spirit lead us to acknowledge your goodness, give thanks for your blessings, and serve you in willing obedience, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Reading Matthew 6:25-33 The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the sixth chapter. Glory to you, O Lord. [Jesus said,] "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. The Good News, given for you. Praise to you, O Christ. Meditation Pastor Mark Hymn of the Day Praise and Thanksgiving ELW 689 Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offering Special Music Offering Hymn The Offering is an important part of Christian worship; a moment when we share God s abundance by giving back to God what God has first given to us: our selves, time, talents, and finances. Thank you for all the ways you live by God s grace, sharing from what you have to empower the mission and ministry to which God has called us as St. John s Lutheran Church.

6 Offering Prayer P: Let us give thanks to the Lord, Our God. (a moment of silence for thanksgiving) L: Creator of all, the earth is yours, the world and all who live in it. C: You have entrusted us with gifts time, talent, energy, money and asked us to use them to build your kingdom. With thanks and praise we respond to your call. L: We bring these gifts you have given, returning your generosity, paying it forward. C: We offer ourselves, our lives, our hopes and fears, our dollars and our hours. We commit ourselves to work for your world, to love and serve wherever you call. L: We ask your blessing on this, your church, as we seek to follow you with heart, mind, and soul. C: Bless also these gifts, our investment in your future, that they may multiply in faith, hope, and love. Amen. Litany of Thanksgiving P: Let us thank God for all good gifts (a moment of silence for thanksgiving) L: For the food that delights and sustains us the drink that quenches our thirst and nourishes us. C: We thank you, Lord. L: For the clothing that protects and enhances us. For the homes that are shelter and our places of rest. C: We thank you, Lord. L: For the means of transportation and for places to visit, for our government, our civil authorities, and for all whose work in the public services make life easier. C: We thank you, Lord. L: For the Church, your body in the world; For pastors, youth directors, musicians, artists, and church leaders. For all whose work in this congregation carries on the Lord s mission. For challenges which face us in this hour, we thank you, for they are your way of inviting us into the work of your Kingdom. For times of hardship, poor harvest, seasons without work, times of poor health, and days of difficulty. We give thanks for the opportunity to grow in faith and trust in all your promises. Lord, in your mercy, C: Hear our prayer. P: Lord, remember us in your Kingdom and teach us to pray, All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
