3 Page 3 Dear Members of Saint Thomas, It is with much gratitude that I would like to express my appreciation to all the members at Saint Thomas for your kindness and generosity in remembering me as I retire from the teaching ministry. Thank you all once again. Edward Vanick ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Saint Thomas Lutheran church Members, Thank you for remembering me on the occasion of my retirement from the teaching ministry. Thank you for the many cards, warm wishes and the generous monetary gift. All are appreciated. I have enjoyed many years at Saint Thomas. My greatest joy at Saint Thomas has been teaching grandstudents (as I fondly call them). Former students have returned with their children seeking the same Christian education they received several decades earlier. Having spent many years in the Lutheran educational system, I was privileged to be taught by a number of gifted and dedicated educators. Their wonderful role model inspired me to follow in their footsteps. It is my hope that I have been able to give my students in much the same way as those teachers gave me. Again, thank you, Sincerely, Linda Taggart Wishing you, Lois, a Happy, Healthy and Blessed 90th Birthday, all our love The Awe Family. Roy & Barbara Awe, Carmen & Mary Vicari and Natalie Killenberger gave thankofferings in honor of Lois s 90th birthday Congratulations on the marriage of Erica Kazmierczak to Matthew Burmann in Folley Beach, South Carolina on June 21st. Thank you for all the prayers for my broken shoulder recovery. I am doing fine. Caroline Henze HIS II gave thankofferings to the General Fund, Pentecost Push and Student Aid Fund for blessings received. Ron & Delia Greve gave a thankoffering to Sass in honor of the retirement of Linda Taggart & Ed Vanick. The Fleming/Collins Family gave a memorial in memory of Jessica Fleming. Marilyn Danz & Grace Metzner gave to the Altar Guild in memory of Robert Slottke. Jane Gurnack, Lois Awe & Doris Ott gave to the Student Aid Fund in honor of the Doctorate of Patricia Riley. 4 Page 4 I am happy to announce that God has lead us to find two new teachers, who we feel will not only enhance your child(ren) s education here at St. Thomas, but will continue on with the exceptional work of Mrs. Taggart and Mr. Vanick next year. Mrs. Jennifer Kayser and Ms. Karen McClelland come to us with multiple years of experience in their respective classroom levels. Mrs. Jennifer Kayser is married and lives in Mt. Clemens with her husband, Mark, daughter, Johannah, a freshman at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, and her son, Jonathan, a first grader. She also has a son who is serving in the Armed Forces as an Army Medic. They are members at Trinity Lutheran, Clinton Twp. Jennifer is a graduate of Concordia University, Ann Arbor, where she received a Bachelor s of Arts Degree in Education. She is currently teaching at Trinity Lutheran School in Port Huron and will join our staff next year as our First & Second grade teacher, a position in which she has experience. Ms. Karen McClelland has taught in Lutheran Schools for more than 15 years and, after having spent time caring for family, is excited to return to the classroom. She earned her Bachelor s Degree from Concordia University in Ann Arbor and her Master s Degree in Teaching and Curriculum Development for Michigan State University. Karen will join our staff as our Fifth and Sixth Grade teacher, and she too has experience in a combined classroom. She plans to transfer to St. Thomas Lutheran and become an active member of our congregational. We hope you will join us in welcoming them into our school and church family. God s Blessings, Mrs. Jacqueline Sturgess ******************************************************************************************** MOTOWN SOUPS Looking for some quick yet nutritional meals? 7 Page 7 Help protect your family against the unexpected Help protect your family against the unexpected Too often, people work hard to build their assets, then fail to protect them. Without proper protection, the money you re working so hard to save could be lost if you were to die or suffer an illness or injury. Life insurance: One in four Americans dies before he or she retires. 1 Premature death can undermine a family s financial health, now and in the future. Having adequate life insurance can help ensure your family continues to live at home, your children go to college and your spouse retires as planned, even if something unexpected happens to you. Disability income insurance: Illness and injuries are more common than you might think. Today, a 25-year -old has a one in four chance of experiencing a long-term loss of income from a disability before he or she turns A disability disrupts your ability to work, and impact your earnings and ability to cover daily living expenses. Disability income insurance can help. If you re unable to work due to a qualifying illness or injury, this vital coverage helps pay eligible expenses. Long-term care insurance: One of every two women and one of every three men age 65 and older will spend some time in a nursing home. 2 Long-term care insurance can protect your savings as well as your freedom to choose the care you receive. For financial guidance, contact James M. Riske, Financial Associate, MSF, LUTCF, FIC at ext. 227 or james.riske@thrivent.com today, or visit Thrivent.com. 1 Commissioners Standard Ordinary Mortality and Disability Tables, Women & Aging Letter, Long-term Care Insurance Revisited, 2009 Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and its representatives and employees cannot provide legal, accounting, or tax advice or services. How is it possible that children can have any just sense of the sacred obligations of morality or religion if, from their earliest infancy, they learn their mothers live in habitual infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in as constant infidelity to their mothers? John Adams, 1778 A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life July 21 Life has its question marks and scary moments that can cause us anxiety and make us feel insecure. However, we have a wonderful Shepherd who laid down His life for you, rose again, and lives to walk with you. He knows you and wants to hold you close in all circumstances. He promises that no one and nothing will snatch you from His nail-pierced, loving, strong hands. Rev. Steven Kramer, speaker on The Christian Crusaders radio program A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life July 28 While not always easy, foster parenting is a wonderful way to share your time and natural parenting abilities with those who need it the most!
