YEAR 2017 THEME: THE FAITHFUL GOD DEUT. 7:9 God's choosing of Israel was motivated by His love for them (Deut, 7:7-8). Moreover, God promised to faithfully keep His covenant and show mercy to generation after generation of them that love him and keep his commandments (cf 6:4-9). Not only was God's love contingent upon this response of love and obedience, but also their prosperity (v13-14), good health, (v15), and military success (v 16). God promises to keep His commitments to His people for a thousand generations (Deut 7:9). He reminds them that He didn't free them because they deserved it or because they were the largest nation on earth, but because He loved them. Many people are facing hardships. You may be one of them. In fact, may be life itself has been nothing but one, long grueling hardship for you for as long as you can remember. I pray that something in this writing, May they greatly prosper in all their endeavours. and indeed, in the course of discussing the theme of the year, might bring some comfort for you. There is little else in life that hurts as deeply as feeling as though God is not faithful. Let's address the very MOST important issue regarding God's NOTICES. faithfulness. The Hebrew word translated faithfulness means Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity. The opposite of being faithful is to be ever. Changing or wishy- 1. Girls/Ladies Guild meet after Mattins at about 1pm on Sundays. washy. Faithfulness is an attribute of God. He is the definition of faithfulness in a sense. It is the nature of God to be faithful and He is. Faithfulness is therefore a characteristic of the body of Christ and one that all Christians should have and practice. Why should Christians or anyone for that matter, obey God? Why should we trust God and do what He says? The answer to these and similar questions is simply that God is faithful. Because God is faithful, we van trust Him and therefore obey Him. We are confident in the times of trouble because we known that God is faithful. The promises of God are real and his faithfulness will never fail us. We have nothing to fear as believers because the power of God is always with us. Yet those words may ring hollow when you are in a crisis situation. You may be dealing with a serious illness for which there is no cure. You may be struggling with financial difficulties and don't know where to turn. You may be suffering the pain of a broken marriage or relationship and have lost all hope for the future. Whatever the struggle, it can be hard to stand in your faith when your circumstance seems hopeless. We read in proverbs 24:10, if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength; The truth is that those who believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ have limitless power to defect anything that comes against them. In I John 5:4, we are told that everyone born of God overcomes the world. The forces of evil cannot conquer a child of God. The devil himself knows that he is unable to harm a hair on your head, but only what God permits. And God will only allow that struggle or pain for which He has prepared in advance to bring you through to victory. Each trial we endure is permitted to help us to develop the perseverance that we need to stay strong in this life so that our faith may be proved genuine. Christ did not suffer and die to lose the battle. His death paid the price for our victory and it cannot be taken from us. It does not matter what trouble you may be experiencing, God is willing and able to bring you through it. He alone can turn a painful situation into something that will be used for good with a reward that will last forever. Here then, is the crux of the whole matter; What God is looking for are people who will be faithful to HIM! especially in the midst of their trials, like Job was. God may allow you to stay in the painful place you are in emotionally (and may be physically) until you determine within yourself to declare that God is faithful to me, and that's the beginning and the ending of the matter! FATHER S DAY SERMON Following popular demand for either audio, video or printed copies of the sermon delivered by Mrs. Gbemi Aduloju, a family has been kind enough to publish same in large quantity so that it can go round members and whoever may come in contact with it. Copies are available for interested members. We thank the family that sponsored this. The glory of God will never diminish upon them. SPIRITUAL VITAMIN FOR THE MONTH: Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:... John 5:39. GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS 1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever will be. Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! 2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. 3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! 4

5 BIBLE STUDY 7.30 A.M A.M QUINQUAGESIMA 26 TH FEBRUARY, Theme: Situations Necessitating Healing Of The Land. Topic: The Healing of The Land Text: Lev. 18:21-25; Hosea 14:1-7. Aim: - Rotten spiritual state of some Churches today; - Grave implications of spiritual decline and - Remedy needed to avoid disaster. Introduction Spiritual deterioration or decline of any nation may lead to a total departure from God and His ways if it is not detected and repented of in time. Some other related words are backsliding, spiritual coldness, apathy and apostasy. We will realize in the study that Sins lead to spiritual decline and a drift from the living God(Hosea 7:8-16) and that God hates spiritual decline (Heb.10:38). But it is better not to know God at all in the first place (Luke 12:47, 48)? We will notice the vicious circle of spiritual decline manifesting in many Sins, and Sins leading to spiritual deterioration. This continues until Christ intervenes to stop it. This study offers some help and cure. Study Guide 1. What does it mean to deteriorate spiritually as a people person? 2. In the light of Lev.18:21-25;Hosea 10:1-4; 14:1-8 a. How will you rate the spiritual state of the nation b. Examine the spiritual state of the Church today, especially that of the congregation. 3. What are the implicatins and consequences of the spiritually bankrupt state? Lev. 18:24, 25, 28; Hosea. 7:8-16; I Cor. 5:6. 4. What is the hope and remedy for spiritual deterioration? I Cor. 5:2, 4-5, 7, 9 & 11; Hosea 14:1-9. Conclusion Both the Church, and individual members, are on the path of spiritual deterioration. This poor spiritual state has greatly and adversely affected the well-being of Nigeria. We need to be awake to this reality and not continue in our spiritual slumber and blindness. Let s follow the Bible s guidance for recovery restoration. Let s stop tolerating sin in our midst, especially sexual immorality and perversion as the consequences are too severe to ignore. Food For Thought Christian insincerely and indiscipline bring disgrace to their Church (Prov.29:15) and help to pull it down gradually Memory Verse - Hosea 14:2. This will be the gift of the current generation of worshippers to the church. We respectfully require the cooperation of all parishioners in order to achieve this purpose. (b) Fund Raising Committee i. It is obvious that we cannot effectively prosecute the above named project, that has been in the pipeline for about 20 years, without raising special funds to that effect. Consequently, Dr. Niyi Balogun was appointed by the Parish Council to chair the Committee. ii. iii. Committee Members - Dr. Niyi Balogun - Chairperson - Mr. Yomi Amoye - Mrs. Yetunde Komolafe - Mrs. Bisi Banjo - Engr. Femi Daramola - Mr. Olorunfemi Ojuri - Ms. Yewande Dawodu Donors List Kindly check the notice boards for the above and get back to the Committee in case of any error or omission. We are most grateful to the committee for a job proficiently done. ii. Hall of Fame Following the reactions from the Parishioners after the presentation, the Committee has created two groupings for the Hall of fame as follows: 1. Pledge/Donations of 1m-3m qualify for gold category and 2. Pledge/Donations above 3m will be Platinum category. iii. iv. (d) Pledge Card This will be collected on the second Sunday of the month. Kindly ensure that your transactions are properly recorded or bring any error to the attention of the Committee for prompt action. Issuance of Cheques Cheques are to be drawn in the name of St. Peter s Church, Faji, Lagos and Lekki Project endorsed over-leaf. Kindly separate the two because the church still needs to run. 7

9 TODAY S MEDITATION SPIRITUAL DETERIORATION Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things; for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you Leviticus 18:24. In our society, in which promiscuity, pornography, and sexually transmitted diseases are relatively common, the call to sexual purity and marital faithfulness is more urgent than ever. We need God s help to guard our bodies, minds, and souls from pervasive immorality. The people of Israel faced a Canaanite culture that was even worse than ours. It is notable that God is bringing them to the land He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but it was a land occupied by fallen men. Forewarned is forearmed. Against the subjectivism, permissiveness, and outright perverseness of sexual behavior in the world, the law set clear boundaries and standards for the people of God. Forbidden behavior included incest, child sacrifice, homosexuality, bestiality, and adultery. Incest included sex with close relatives and family members. Child Sacrifices was done by the Ammonites as part of the worship of Molech, and from its placement here we might infer that the ritual involved sexuality in some way. It s for the practice of homosexuality, God s word is clear and unequivocal that it is sin (cf. Rom.1:26,27; 1 Cor.6:9,10). What was the punishment for disobedience in the area? If the Israelites wanted to see a demonstration of the answer, they simply needed to see how God was about to judge the Canaanites; Their immoral behaviour was so despicable that the land itself needed purifying _ colourfully, God said it would vomit out the wickedness of those people (Lev.18; 24, 25). The Lord warned Israel not to look back and imitate the sins they saw in Egypt, nor to look around and imitate the sins of the godless, pagan Gentile nations (Lev.18:3). When the Jews entered Canaan, they would discover that the people there were unspeakably immoral. Israel would have to maintain a position of separation in order to abstain from fleshly lusts (1pet.2:12) and be pleasing to the Lord. The Church today must maintain that same position-not a holier than thou attitude but a sweet aroma of morality that is attractive to the world inebriated by unspeakable sexual immorality (cp.2cor.6; 14-7;1, Eph. 5:1-14; Col. 3:1-7). Perversion among a people who are called to be holy perverts the Name and character of the thrice Holy God; And the principle flows over to the New Covenant- God s people do the most good for the world when they are least like the world. How tragic that today so many Churches have deceptively reasoned that they must imitate the world in order to reach the world; Beloved, when Israel failed to follow God s clear decrees and instead adopted the lifestyle of the pathetic pagan nations around them, they effectively blunted the effect of their witness. Beloved, a nation decays not because of the sinners doing what comes naturally, but when the saints cease to be salty and clear lights. Social Welfare Service Ministry. A. Our Programmes 1.
