YEAR 2017 THEME: THE FAITHFUL GOD DEUT. 7:9 God's choosing of Israel was motivated by His love for them (Deut, 7:7-8). Moreover, God promised to faithfully keep His covenant and show mercy to generation after generation of them that love him and keep his commandments (cf 6:4-9). Not only was God's love contingent upon this response of love and obedience, but also their prosperity (v13-14), good health, (v15), and military success (v 16). God promises to keep His commitments to His people for a thousand generations (Deut 7:9). He reminds them that He didn't free them because they deserved it or because they were the largest nation on earth, but because He loved them. Many people are facing hardships. You may be one of them. In fact, may be life itself has been nothing but one, long grueling hardship for you for as long as you can remember. I pray that something in this writing, May they greatly prosper in all their endeavours. and indeed, in the course of discussing the theme of the year, might bring some comfort for you. There is little else in life that hurts as deeply as feeling as though God is not faithful. Let's address the very MOST important issue regarding God's NOTICES. faithfulness. The Hebrew word translated faithfulness means Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity. The opposite of being faithful is to be ever. Changing or wishy- 1. Girls/Ladies Guild meet after Mattins at about 1pm on Sundays. washy. Faithfulness is an attribute of God. He is the definition of faithfulness in a sense. It is the nature of God to be faithful and He is. Faithfulness is therefore a characteristic of the body of Christ and one that all Christians should have and practice. Why should Christians or anyone for that matter, obey God? Why should we trust God and do what He says? The answer to these and similar questions is simply that God is faithful. Because God is faithful, we van trust Him and therefore obey Him. We are confident in the times of trouble because we known that God is faithful. The promises of God are real and his faithfulness will never fail us. We have nothing to fear as believers because the power of God is always with us. Yet those words may ring hollow when you are in a crisis situation. You may be dealing with a serious illness for which there is no cure. You may be struggling with financial difficulties and don't know where to turn. You may be suffering the pain of a broken marriage or relationship and have lost all hope for the future. Whatever the struggle, it can be hard to stand in your faith when your circumstance seems hopeless. We read in proverbs 24:10, if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength; The truth is that those who believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ have limitless power to defect anything that comes against them. In I John 5:4, we are told that everyone born of God overcomes the world. The forces of evil cannot conquer a child of God. The devil himself knows that he is unable to harm a hair on your head, but only what God permits. And God will only allow that struggle or pain for which He has prepared in advance to bring you through to victory. Each trial we endure is permitted to help us to develop the perseverance that we need to stay strong in this life so that our faith may be proved genuine. Christ did not suffer and die to lose the battle. His death paid the price for our victory and it cannot be taken from us. It does not matter what trouble you may be experiencing, God is willing and able to bring you through it. He alone can turn a painful situation into something that will be used for good with a reward that will last forever. Here then, is the crux of the whole matter; What God is looking for are people who will be faithful to HIM! especially in the midst of their trials, like Job was. God may allow you to stay in the painful place you are in emotionally (and may be physically) until you determine within yourself to declare that God is faithful to me, and that's the beginning and the ending of the matter! FATHER S DAY SERMON Following popular demand for either audio, video or printed copies of the sermon delivered by Mrs. Gbemi Aduloju, a family has been kind enough to publish same in large quantity so that it can go round members and whoever may come in contact with it. Copies are available for interested members. We thank the family that sponsored this. The glory of God will never diminish upon them. SPIRITUAL VITAMIN FOR THE MONTH: Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:... John 5:39. GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS 1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever will be. Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! 2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. 3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! 4

5 BIBLE STUDY 9.00 A.M A.M LENT 1 5 TH MARCH, Theme: Situations Necessitating Healing Of The Land. Topic: Moral Decadence Text: Micah 6:8; 7:1-7. Aim: - Realise the moral decadence in our land with particular focus on injustice, violence and corruption; - Understand the consequences of continuing in them; and - How the situation can be remedied. Introduction In last weeks study, attention was drawn to the spiritual decline in Nigeria. This study will yet be on the state of the land, but its focus will be on moral decadence with particular reference to issues of injustice and corruption. Moral decadence refers to the erosion of traditional godly values; that gives vent to corruption and violence. To some extent, corruption and violence are casually connected. Study Guide 1. Explain moral decadence, corruption and injustice in your own words. 2. What key indicators reveal the state of decadence in the land of Israel (Micah 7:1-6)? Compare these with the state of affairs in Nigeria today. 3. Discuss why the Church is also guilty of corruption and injustice today inspite of the avowed commitment to faith in Christ? I Cor. 15:33; Isa. 6:5; Psa. 36:1,2; Exod. 23:2. 4a. What are the implication s of injustice, violence, and corruption? Micah 7:1-4, 6; Ezek. 22: b. How should the righteous deal with this state of affairs? Micah 6:8; 7:5, 7; Dan. 1:8; Joshua 24:14, Can we connect corruption to violence in Nigeria? Conclusion Injustice is the common experience if the ordinary man in our land today. Violence is on the rise-kidnapping, rape, cultism, militancy, terrorism, assassination, armed robbery, banditry, etc; Much more than any others, corruption is number one killer in the Nation. But we can choose to make a difference wherever we are, walking wisely and waiting in hope for God to heal the Nation. Food For Thought Some participate in corruption, some collude with others, or simply remain indifferent, allowing it to continue or sharing in what corruption brings. Memory Verse - Micah 6:8. 9 TODAY S MEDITATION THE TRIALS OF FAITH My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this that the trying of your faith worketh patience James 1:2-3. Let me start this meditation with the words of Charles Spurgeon, it is the easiest thing in the world for us to obey God when He commands us to do what we like, and to trust Him when the path is all sunshine. The real victory of faith is to trust God in the dark, and through the dark. Let us be assured of this, that if the lesson and the rod are of His appointing, and that His all-wise love has engineered the deep tunnel of trial on the heavenward road, He will never desert us during the discipline. The Vital thing for us is not to deny and desert Him. Some Christians think that they have a guaranteed way to escape trials. They point to biblical promises that God will intervene for those who have faith in His Son. However, God not only promises us trials! Christ did not come to bring us a trouble-free life. Instead, He warned us that we would have strife within our families because of Him (Matt. 10:34-36), that we would have trials (John 16:33), and that we would be persecuted (John 15:20). We enter the kingdom through many trials (Acts 14:22), and every Christian will suffer persecution (2 Tim. 3:12). We should not think it unusual when trials afflict us (I Pet. 4:12). Jesus suffered when He was in the flesh; that should remind us that we will suffer too. Trials of faith, therefore, are necessary experiences that test the faith of a believer not to destroy him but to purify and strengthen his faith. The gift of faith is a priceless spiritual endowment. This is life eternal, Jesus prayed, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent John 17:3. Our faith is centered on God, our Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. It bolstered by our knowledge that the fullness of the gospel has been restored to the earth, the Holy Bible is the Word of God. We treasure our faith, work to strengthen our faith, pray for increased faith, and do all within our power to protect and defend our faith. The Apostle Peter identified something he called a trial of your faith He had experienced it. Remember Jesus s words; Simon,. Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not Luke 22:31. Peter later encouraged others: Think it not strange, he said, concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you I Peter 4:12. These fiery trials are designed to make you stronger, but they have the potential to diminish or even destroy your trust in the Son of God to weaken your resolve to keep your promises to Him. These trials are often camouflaged, making them difficult to identify. They take root in our weaknesses, our Vulnerabilities, our sensitivities, or in those things that matter most to us. A real but manageable test for one can be a fiery trial for another. How do you remain Steadfast and Immovable during a trial of faith? You immerse yourselves in the very things that helped build your core of faith; you exercise faith in Christ, you pray, you ponder the Scriptures, you repent, you keep the Commandments, and you serve others. (cf. Mt. 4:4) When faced with a trial of faith- whatever you do, you don t step away from the church. Distancing yourself from the Kingdom of God doing trial of faith is like leaving the safety of a cellar just as the pestilence comes into view. Social Welfare Service Ministry. A. Our Programmes 1.
