Joe Koyickal, SAC Mission Coordinator Pallottines (The Society of the Catholic Apostolate) is a religious community of over 2300 members spread over several countries in the five continents. It was founded in Rome in 1835 by St Vincent Pallotti. He is considered the pioneer of championing the role of the Laity in the mission of the Church. He is recognized as having profoundly influenced teaching of Vat. II on Laity. The motto of the Society is: make everyone a Catholic, every Catholic a good Catholic, and every good Catholic an Apostle. He always reminded people that they are called to be Apostles no matter where they are and what they do. In India, besides carrying out his vision by inspiring laity to take an active role in the church, we run several mission stations aimed at catering to the needs of the poor and the underprivileged. We do the same in Zambia and Africa as well. We run orphanages for poor boys and girls, run educational institutions, dispensaries and other charitable works along with proclaiming the gospel and faith formation. We undertake many social work programs directly aimed at helping the poor and needy. In the traditional Catholic areas we concentrate on re-evangelization and the training of the laity to become active apostles. And we have several seminarians being trained for priesthood and brotherhood. We are happy to share the fact that our mission is growing and expanding in India as well as Zambia. We prepare once more to be drawn into the ministry of Jesus, the true shepherd of God s people, who provides us with rest refreshment, pasture and leadership 1st Reading Jeremiah 23:1-6 Jeremiah does no think much of the shepherds, the leaders who are supposed to be looking after God s people. His vision is that one day God will be a true shepherd 2nd Reading Ephesians 2:13-18 The author stresses that although his Gentile readers used to be very far from the Jews, Jesus in his death, has now united the two groups so there is only one humanity in Christ Gospel Mark 6:30-34 In the prelude to the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus is cast in the role prophesied by Jeremiah: he is the shepherd who leads his disciples to pasture and a place of repose near restful waters. The Mother Mary Widows group meets on the third Thursdays of each month at 11:00am in the Library at the Church of the Madalene. All widows are welcome. The group meets to offer support, share experiences and prayers following the suggestions of the Stand in the Gap Ministry. If you are a widow or know of one, the group may provide just what is needed at this time. It offers an opportunity not only to receive help but to offer it to others. If you are interested or have questions please call Rita Boyle at St. Bernard of Clairvaux is having it s 2nd Teen ACTS retreat July at the University of Tulsa. Teen ACTS is a Catholic teen retreat which helps to achieve the goals set for then by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in their statement on youth ministry. The goals are: to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, to draw young people to responsible participation in life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community, and to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. The retreats are designed for high school boys and girls who have completed their freshmen year, and are put on by a team comprised of teen peers, young adults and adults of both genders. We will interview in early August. Church of the Madalene Mission for the Week Spend some alone time with Jesus tonight. If you get interrupted because someone else needs help, that's okay. Go help, and then come back to your alone time with Jesus again. Sharing the Gospel Have you ever just wanted to be alone for a while? Jesus and his disciples knew what that felt like. They wanted to be alone to talk and rest, but crowds of people were surrounding them. Even when Jesus and his disciples tried to slip away unnoticed, people followed them anyway. They arrived only to find more crowds of people. This was certainly not the quiet time they had planned on. Being patient and kind, Jesus gave up what he wanted, and he began to teach the crowds. Prayer Dear God, thank you that Jesus gave up what he wanted, just so he could help other people. Help me to follow his example. Amen.

5 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 19, 2015 Answering the Call As God calls us, so must we answer. Some of us hear our calling through the laughter of our children, some through the embrace of our spouse, and some through time spent at our job. But, we all must answer. When we grow more and more deeply in time with our faith, we begin to answer the calling of evangelism. We begin to yearn to share the one thing in our life that brings us true meaning. But how? Many a time, since I have entered the Church, I have encountered people who couldn t understand my faith; who wouldn t. Often times, I would hit road blocks that left me feeling helpless and confused. I couldn t understand how one Christian from another faith could look at mine and disbelieve. But, it happens. Part of the answer to the call is to understand our faith. When I was younger, I used to watch late night infomercials. I was enraptured by the fact that these people could spend hours offering something that cost $10 to make and sell it for 3 easy payments of I knew they all had one thing in common: they knew their product. Now, I would be remiss to say that our Catholic faith is a late night novelty, but in a sense, if we don t know what we believe we can never talk about it or live it. We don t have to sell our faith, but we have to be passionate and knowledgeable. If we aren t, then we are shells of people who talk the talk, and we miss the opportunity to walk the talk. Even if we don t know where to start in answering that call, we shouldn t miss out. We must reach out.
